Great store with a lot of awesome things that are difficult to find anywhere else. However, I was followed around the entire store by a security guard and it made the shopping experience terrible. He watched me like a hawk as if I was gonna steal everything I touched. I’m a 36yr old man that really wanted to spend money at the store since I can’t buy those items where I live. I will never go in that store again. Definitely do not go there if you have a beard I guess.

On a recent August day, my kids and I were caught in a freaky, sudden rainstorm and we ran into this HMV to seek cover. So we browsed. And browsed. And browsed. It was a long rainstorm! LOL! Anyhow, we were really taken aback by how massive this store is. There are three levels, and they are big: vinyl records and movies are downstairs, classical and jazz music is upstairs, and there’s quite a bit of everything(especially pop and more mainstream music genres and merchandise) on the main level. There weren’t that many employees to service such a humongous store, so no one hung around us as we checked out all the displays and shelves and dvd’s and cd’s and mugs and t-shirts and the like. This can be both positive(if one likes browsing around on one’s own at length) or negative(if one needs specific items and needs a lot of help in locating them). But for our purposes, it was great. I can’t imagine not being able to find a good gift for someone here who’s into music or movies, regardless of the genre. This HMV seems to have a lot of most everything. And the prices of the items I checked seemed to be quite reasonable. Downstairs, for instance, there were lots of sale items on music cd’s(buy one and get one free, for example). My kids were occupied with the wall-mounted music listening stations which were located all about. All in all, this seems to be a great place for the music-lover out there!

If you are not fluid in French I would not shop here. They don’t honor their signs, and will lie about pricing to take advantage of you, also they will talk about you in French in a derogatory manner right in front of your face. And the way they treat you in English is even worse. They claimed I had taken a picture of an liquidation item sign a different day, they came back to cheat the system. I asked them to look at the display themselves which they finally did, but would not offer me the discount that was clealy labeled additional 40% off. i said screw it and left. Way to ruin my trip guys!

I had not been in an HMV since the chain pulled out of the American market some years ago. Very depressing what has happened to the classical selections at HMV. I remember the store in Cambridge MA as being a real treat to go to some 12 years ago. What a shame for the store and industry in general.

Perhap not always informed of some movie titles, the staff is ever and invariably helpful. To be fair, I would’nt know who directed ‘200 cigarettes’ either. The prices are favorable. Most poular works(dvd & cd) are on sale, perpetually. It’s only bleak that HMV is offering expired technologies. I cannot remember the last time I purchased a cd. Times a changin’.

the store is ok. selection is decent if compared to online. staff is decent, not the most competent but better than some other places. they used to have a gaming section but it was way too expensive. they now have clothing but quality wise, its a crapshoot with walmart but at a premium price. their movie selection is bad with ridiculous prices. on seldom sale, it does hot but outside of those times, better look somewhere else. their boxing day sales. probably the biggest joke out there as they limit the offered quantity. once they run out of the allocated number, you’ll pay regular price on the item you thought would be cheap. buyer’s beware their website, pretty useless and in 2014, still can’t buy online. you can reserve but you know, convenience and with so few stores in town.

I’ve been coming to this HMV for a while during my time here in Montréal. I’ve gotten lots of things here and it’s just great. The sales are amazing. Today I got two DVDs for 23 dollars, one of which was five bucks and the other fifteen but three movies in one! More than a bargain. Too bad they got rid of their video games but at least there’s other places I can go for that. Nice to have an HMV nearby since the chain has died out in the US.

Dropped into the HMV today and this place is massive! It’s multi level and has a ton of media along with clothing and other miscellaneous items. The selection is very large and and they have listening stations all over the place. There are always clearance bins but I found the staff a little hard to track down today. When you do get their attention they are very helpful though.

Huge music and DVD megastore. I thought I would be able to find some music from France here considering the huge Francophone selection but was disappointed to find that it is mostly just music from Quebec. They do have really nice listening stations. Check out the lower level which is much mellower than the first floor. Prices were fairly reasonable.

Super-duper huge multi-story record store! The staff member that helped me out was amazing, a song was playing in French on the overhead sound system that I decided I liked & after I told him just a few words of the song, he located the CD for me! Good discount CD section too — I found the few years old British Now 52 for $ 4.99!
