Hoche Café

L’un des meilleurs Cage latte que j’ai bu à Montréal ! Le petit café à l’ambiance accueillante du quartier Hochelaga est à découvrir ! Seul défaut, le café ferme trop tôt en soirée: 19h00…

C’est ma première visite au Hoche café. L’endroit et les gens sont super sympathique! J’ai pris le grilled-​cheese aux pommes vertes… dé-​li-​cieux! Et le café est excellent aussi. Endroit parfait pour venir étudier. Bref, c’est certain que je vais revenir!

J’adore ce petit café de quartier, hipster, dans HO-​MA. Quand on y entre, il y a une sorte de bien être et d’harmonie. De grandes tables sont disposer pour manger ou travailler de façon à côtoyer et partager avec de parfaits inconnus. Expérience client très enrichissante.

Not in love. It’s a regular coffee shop. I ordered ginger espresso on a Monday morning and the staff was so rude. The coffee was way too bitter and tasted cold. Would not go back.

Montréal has been invaded by loads of independent cafes in recent years albeit HoMa still doesn’t seem to have a wide variety of them yet. Enter Hoche Café located on Ontario just east of Pie-​IX and Promenades Ontario, which is the trendy part of HoMa. It’s massive and has plenty of seating. It can get very crowded though especially on weekends. Despite its size it has a cozy ambiance to it. There are a few large, communal tables to sit at or smaller ones if you don’t want to get to close to strangers.
They always have a great variety of baked goods which are always fresh and generally well-​made. The banana bread I had on my most recent visit was very moist and there was a sizeable portion of it. I must say though that I don’t really like the coffee. The espresso is much too sour for my liking.
Pricewise it is on par for an independent coffee shop. Some might say it is too expensive considering it lies just outside the trendy part of HoMa and I am inclined to agree. If this were Mile End or the Plateau I might object a little less to the prices but we aren’t in those areas.

Depuis mon dernier avis, j’ai emménager près du Hoche Café et il est devenu l’un de mes endroits favoris. Le personnel est toujours très serviable et soucieux de rendre le client heureux. L’endroit est toujours aussi agréable et convivial et maintenant que j’ai pu goûter davantage de leurs «plats» je peux maintenant mettre une étoile de plus !

Cute and cozy coffee shop in Hochelaga. Very friendly staff, mostly only french speaking. London fog (earl grey tea, milk and some sweetener) is delicious, la bicyclette (eggs — scrambled, bread and peanut butter) was not very exciting (egg a bit dry). The granola for the yoghurt was «just» a crumbled cookie (about 1 teaspoon full of it). Asking for more made us feel rude, and least that was the feeling they gave us.
All in all, nice café, the pastries look very mouth-​watering, drinks are great, other food was okay.

Endroit prétentieux, bobo, et beaucoup trop cher. 5 $ pour un jus d’orange, tu me niaises?

Coudonc tout le monde est beau là dedans? Le café et le scone étaient bien bons mais tabarouette les gars sont beaux et les filles sont belles!

Ambiance sympathique et nourriture excellente! Les grilled-​cheese sont à tomber par terre. J’ai aimé leur americano et leur cappuccino également. J’y retournerai c’est sûr!

Petit déjeuner solo en semaine=déjà un niveau de bonheur élevé. Le choix du Hoche café est judicieux. Excellent latté, j’ai eu la chance d’avoir le dernier bagel en circulation mais ils doivent être moins généreux sur le creton car on arrive à la fin de la réserve…ça va quand même. La salade de fruits est super bonne et fraîche. Super service: vraiment rien à redire. Petit point négatif: ventilation dans le tapis donc on gèle mais aussitôt adressé aussitôt réglé. Vraiment heureuse de découvrir ce petit coin de presque quiétude (c’est super occupé!). L’espace en lui-​même est agréable; grand local et déco chaleureuse. Tous les amateurs de café devraient venir y faire un tour. J’y reviendrai!

Le café est toujours bon, le lunch aussi. Il n’y a malheureusement jamais de place assise quand nous y allons!

Just brilliant ambience for a breakfast place. We got here at around 830, and there weren’t that many people around. So it was nice and quiet. Being quite far away from the city, might be a contributing factor to having some «local» clientele.
No one spoke English but google translate helped us get the orders right. The food was good though the serving size was small for my breakfast liking. It was delicious nonetheless.

Perfect Internet café. The high speed internet is very high speed, the food is delicious and these sting is comfy but you can work. And the music is very pleasant, too!

I have been to Hoche around 10 times now and I’m consistently a little disappointed each time I leave the café.
The coffee itself is excellent, but the rest of the experience is so-​so. For starters, the few plates of food I have tried so far were mediocre. The scrambled eggs served for breakfast are made in the microwave (in front of clients, so at least they’re not trying to hide it) which I find hard to accept wen you’re paying 11 $ for eggs and a piece of bread and jam. The last plate I tried was the croque monsieur, and unfortunately it was also disappointing. The bread was not toasted and the cheese was hardly even melted (probably made in the microwave as well instead of the oven). The paninis were also so-​so.
The staff is usually polite, but definitely not overly friendly. I always bring back my plate and cup once I’m done with my coffee because I know how hectic it gets in popular coffee shops, and not once was I thanked or even just smiled at. Definitely not a common reaction in Montréal, where most staff is overly thankful towards this simple gesture.
My recommendation: great coffee to pick up when on the go. Otherwise, have a bagel or a pastry with your coffee but avoid the meals.

Was very excited to try this café out because of all the good reviews.
A group of four of us walked in, took a look around and had no idea wether we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait to get seated. If we were supposed to be seated nobody greeted us. If we were supposed to seat ourselves the table we eventually sat down at was already «taken» by another group even though it was empty.
So instead standing around like a bunch of idiots we left.
Will probably try this place out again but for now not a good experience.

Excellente place que vous passiez juste prendre un bon thé ou café ou que vous vouliez vous asseoir et manger un brownie décadent ou un grill cheese aux oignons caramélisés. Le personnel est sympathique, pas stressé et né met pas de pression pour consommer. Les enfants sont les très bienvenus et ont de quoi s occuper!

Best fresh pressed juice I had in a while! Will definitely be back for coffee and food! Loved the vibe there as well!

Lundi matin, 10h et l’endroit et à moitié plein. Populaire ce petit endroit! Les galettes au beurre d’arachide sont hors de ce monde. Je né suis pas grand fan de café, genre j’ai pris un café filtre, mais il est bon, et fort!
Ambiance tranquille pas trop bruyant ce matin. On peut faire nos affaires en paix, et c’est exactement ce dont j’avais besoin. Je reviendrai c’est certain.

Great coffee, great sandwiches, cute little spot with a nice décor and great staff. I recommend the grilled cheeses– all extremely delicious. I mean this place has it all what else would you ask from a cute independent café in HoMa. Definitely worth going to after a little trip to Marché Maisonneuve (it’s right across).

had a lunch special here once with a small wrap and soup. really tasty and the coffee was also great too.
the ambiance was also really nice; could see myself studying at the rear of the café and also just hanging out on those large tables they have.

Café de quartier vraiment cool et zen… Excellents cafés, déjeuners et dîners. Belle place pour travailler tranquille!

Really close to maisonneuve cegep and best latte! Such a nice coffee shop and the staff were kind and friendly! Had a quick diner and there’s lots of plugs near the wall for those who need to charge their computer! The price is real nice (cheaper then starbuck and better coffee &tea !) and the parking isnt hard to find! Its cheaper then downtown too (1 $/​hour compare to 3 $/​h) totally recommended love it!

Let’s get right into it, I love this place! Staff are very friendly, the place looks alway neat and also always packed. It’s the new era of HoMa and HocheCafé is ready for it. Casual ambiance, you’ve got your typical student, hipsters, businessman, writers and iPad enthusiast all waiting in line for a great cup of coffee. Depending on who’s controlling the fancy machine you’ll get a leaf or an elephant draw in the milk of your latte. Tastier than any Starbucks I’ve ever been to! Great variety of food from side dish to full meal. They even sell their own brand of coffee but it’s never has good has the original. Its my go-​to coffee house on my week-​end days. Haven’t tried they full meal yet, but the pastries are delicious. I’ll keep coming here for a while and you should swig by for a cup!

En fin de semestre, le Hoche devient ma deuxième maison!
Les pâtisseries faites maison, leurs lattés et le staff super chaleureux et gentil rendent mes longues sessions d’études beaucoup plus agréables. Plusieurs tables y sont généralement disponibles (sauf peut-​être à l’heure du lunch où l’endroit reçoit les travailleurs en quête d’un bon grilled-​cheese), le wi-​fi est bon et on y retrouve plusieurs prises électriques (détail important pour les lunatiques comme moi qui oublient toujours de recharger la batterie de leur ordi!).
Bref, c’est le meilleur café en ville pour étudier/​travailler/​relaxer!

Je suis une grande amatrice de café et depuis 2 ans, je tente de trouver le meilleur à Montréal. Quelle chance, il est à 10 minutes de chez moi! Le Hoche café! Les grains sont torréfiés à la perfection, le créma est soyeux et savoureux, le lait bien dense et pas brûlé, les tasses sont bien adaptées à la boisson servie, une perfection! De plus, la nourriture est très fraîche, bien assaisonnée et cuisinée sur place. Le brownie est à se «pitcher» dans les murs! Lol! Ce café est l’endroit idéal pour étudier, travailler, lire ou tout simplement pour se détendre… J’adore les grandes tables communes qui nous permettent de parfois faire de belles rencontres! Le Hoche café, ma place!!!
Petits points à améliorer:
1. Les heures d’ouverture sont vraiment limitées. Pourquoi né pas ouvrir un peu plus tard avec un «staff» limité?
2. Un sourire ça né fait pas de mal, au contraire! ;-)
3. On gèle! Il y a bien des façons d’économiser des sous, mais le faire sur le chauffage, ce n’est jamais une bonne idee!

Un petit café/​brunch vraiment sympathique, très cosy et idéalement situé proche du biodome d’où nous sortions.
Le grilled cheese chèvres/​tomates séchées est vraiment top ! Le brunch du weekend semblait également très appétissant. Nous n’avons pas gouté les patisseries, mais elles faisaient envie (je n’avais juste plus du tout faim).

Service A1, beau decors, beaucoup de choix de breuvages (surtout thé/​tisane/​café), menu repas limité aux paninis ou grilled cheese, salade, soupe. Les desserts, aussi limités, sont tres tres bons, fait maison par une patissiere. J’ai pris le brownie sans gluten, c’etait juste wow. Ils ont beaucoup de produits bio/​organique/​local et c’est tres abordable.
Par contre, pas de terrasse :-(

Café de haute qualité, probablement le meilleur dans hochelaga-​maisonneuve. Les plats sont goûteux et le service toujours impeccable. C’est un peu trop cher pour la taille des portions, mais ça vaut un arrêt de temps en temps

Ayant déménagé récemment, me rendre à mon café favori (le Café Expression sur le plateau) est devenu plus ardu. Mais j’ai découvert le Hoche Café qui offre une ambiance très semblable, avec de très bons mocha comme je les aime! Je n’ai pas encore eu l’occasion d’essayer le reste du menu mais j’ai bien hâte de revenir! Définitivement mon nouveau café de prédilection.
Seul point négatif; les horaires qui empêchent d’y rester un temps raisonnable après le souper.

Une ambiance parfaite pour étudier (ou, dans mon cas, rédiger) en solo ou pour papoter tranquillement entre amis. Bien que certaines tables plus grandes pourraient accueillir des groupes de 6 personnes, l’ambiance est plus adéquate pour 1 ou 2 personnes: calme, peu bruyante, petite musique en fond et voilà.
Au menu: plusieurs choix de sandwichs et de paninis et quelques salades et soupes. Pour ce qui est des desserts, on est choyés: brownies (ultra fondant en bouche et pourtant, sans gluten), des biscuits de toutes sortes qui ont l’air décadents, des galettes d’avoine, etc.
Pour ce qui est des breuvages, espresso, lattés, cappuccinos et autres sont au rendez-​vous, mais aussi une sélection particulièrement large de thés et de tisanes.
J’aime bien. J’y reviendrai.

Café sympa dans un quartier que je né fréquente pas beaucoup. Je n’ai consommé qu’un breuvage chaud, donc je né peux pas commenter sur la nourriture ni les viennoiseries (qui me faisaient de l’oeil, mais comme j’allais souper peu de temps après, j’ai décidé d’être raisonnable). ;)
Mais ils servent un espresso sur gingembre qui est L’IDÉE DU SIÈCLE pour la caféinomane et la méga-​fanatique de gingembre que je suis. Un superboost parfait!
L’endroit était hyperbondé dimanche après-​midi et le lieu était par conséquent très bruyant. Je me demandais comment certains étudiants faisaient pour réviser! Toutefois, selon l’ami qui nous accompagnait, l’endroit n’a pas l’habitude d’être aussi plein à craquer (les clients s’arrachaient littéralement les chaises restantes).
Le personnel est souriant et accommodant. Le service a été un peu lent, mais cela s’explique sans doute par la popularité de l’endroit.
Si je retourne dans le coin, je vais sans doute essayer un repas ou une sucrerie.

Hoche is one of those rare cafes that makes you feel like you could move into the neighbourhood, because you can see your life revolving around a place like this. Swinging in and out of their door, drinking their coffee and eating their sandwiches. As well as drowning uni sorrows with one of their giant choc chip cookies while you study on their wifi.
It’s like when you meet a new guy who has no visible flaws, and so your mind gets a bit carried away thinking about your lives together.

Tasty food, friendly staff and vibe, unpretentious. No visible flaws.
Now to get the metro back to my actual neighbourhood and step back into reality. There will be other great cafes, I know. But every now and again I will still think of Hoche and their great toasted sandwiches.

Hip coffee shop for Homa! Seems like it replicated itself from all the other hip cafés. It has the token rough wood construction and a vintage desk for the coffee lids and sugar but the coffee is definitively third wave (metropolis coffee). I hear the brunch is great. I’ll be back!

What a cute and cosy spot to set up «office» for a few hours. It’s a large space for a coffee shop, the kind of place that’s so warm that it fogs up your glasses when you walk in the door. There’s a definite sense of neighbourhood at Hoche. Adorning the walls are community posters for events and a live music acts. There’s groups gathering to chat, individuals pouring over books and others like us working away on our laptops. With big mugs of coffee or pots of tea perched atop large wooden tables, it’s a spot where you can feel comfortable hanging around for a bit.
Watch out for the trickly loo situation. The men’s and women’s bathrooms are separated. You’ll see the ladies when you walk in the front entrance, and you’ll see the men’s when you are sitting in the back. There is clearly an icon on each door, but because they’re not near each other, it’s pretty easy to go to the wrong door.
Offerings are of your run-​of-​the-​mill varieties: lattes, chai lattes, teas, coffees. They also offer some baked goods for snacking. And of course, no neighbourhood coffee shop is complete without some solid wi-​fi to surf on. Make sure you snag the code when you order your bevvie.
