Montréal Café

I hope my review will bring these guys up to a full four stars, because they deserve it.
I come here to get a couple hours of work done usually, when I need a break from working at home and am craving espresso-​based coffee.
Everything about this place is *calm*, which makes it a great environment to sit and focus, with free wifi and a clientele all either reading or working on laptops. You’re in good company here if you’re a self-​starter.
The café is located in Petite Laurier, a quaint and fairly quiet part of Laurier, with an outdoor terrace on Marquette. The terrace is typically full, but you can always find a spot indoors.
Music is kept at the right volume so as to remain a groovy background noise that conversation doesn’t have to compete with. Just my style.
Treats and sammies are all great (paninis) — and I’ve tried many of them. Also, excellent Americanos. The staff are just as calm and cool as the rest of the vibe here. Friendly, unfazed, and it’s all smooth sailing.
Come here planning to raise a ruckus with your posse, and I’ll bet you’ll get some heavy stink-​eye. This is my office-​away-​from-​home-​office par excellence. Also, I typically only see small children outside. Maybe the acoustics inside amplify sound, leading to the low key convo or solitary inhabitants inside. Whatever it is, it works for me!

J’aime vaquer sur la rue Laurier car elle est un peu plus près des gens avec des commerces non franchisés. Au contraire d’une critique rédigée en anglais dans cette page, j’ai trouvé le lieu accueillant, propre et sympathique, dans une ambiance de café de quartier. Bien sûr les lieux sont plus exigus que dans les grandes chaînes, mais les chaises sont confortables, la connexion Internet fonctionne et le café est bon. Les lieux s’emplissent vite d’étudiant-travailleurs à l’ouvrage, de résidents du quartier de tous acabit ainsi que des derniers immigrants français fraîchement débarqués et friands de ce quartier. Donc un bon endroit pour observer la faune locale. Le service était un peu «sur-​vitaminé «à mon goût, mais je préfère de loin cela à à un «service-​prozac «ou un «service-​machine «.
La terrasse en été est très populaire et agréable. À essayer.
Il y a du stationnement dans les rues environnantes. Attention car ces rues sont à sens unique! Mais le quartier fait bon visiter à pied, de toute façon. Il y a toute sorte de petits commerces cachés et intéressants et le parc Laurier tout près.

Je me souviens de ce local comme l’ancien dépanneur en face de chez-​moi. À l’ouverture j’étais sceptique mais lorsque j’ai osé le panini dinde et moutarde servi avec chips et salade de carrottes… Absoluement délicieux entre les repas, dans mon cas.

I lived on top of this café and still visit IF I can grab a seat outside. I say this because neighbourhood is charming and you can usually get some sun. Inside always feels like a library and I feel like I’m yelling when I order. I don’t really like that unless I want a quiet place to read or fiddle with my brain, but that’s me.
They are still a cybercafe, so I award retro points. For those of you who may not be familiar with this term, it means you can use a computer and internet for a reasonable price. Othewise, coffees and related drinks are okay. Locally made snacks are better than the salads/​sandwiches they prepare.
Conclusion: I’m more into the location than, say, the café
