U2 in Montreal – Innocence & Experience Night 4

How does anyone fuck up counting in French for the 4^th night. 1,2,3 = French but he said 14 in Spanish. This is the new running joke between fans. He spoke a lot of French… really bad French. His French is as good as his Spanish.
He didn’t do a lot of singing as he took the Morrissey approach of talking the lyrics. The audience, being Montréal, best Canadian audience to date, took over the singing of many of the songs.
This is U2’s second night after having a two day break between paired shows, what is his excuse for talking through the lyrics? I would rather have bad singing than talked lyrics.
I am sorry to say but most of the show was painful to hear vocally even by my standards of having accepted Bono’s vocal issues.
He was taking a lot of short cuts and he wasn’t that interactive with the audience. He may have genuinely had a cold or was possibly under the weather. His singing sounded as though he was sick more than worn out. He accidently sang the same verse 3 times during Raised By Wolves, therefore, a clear indication that he was under the weather.
it just sounds like yesterday was the matinée and right now was the «evening show», but they didn’t tell him until after the matinée was over.
On Song for Someone I heard a bit of auto tune for some of the big notes of the chorus.
At first I was a bit pissed that they didn’t do Crystal Ballroom, however, the more I thought about it the more I realized that this was actually a blessing in disguise. If the band did play it with Bono’s voice it would’ve been really bad. This gives the band a chance to rehearse the song a bit more for a future show. Possibly any one of the shows in NY!
He did surprise the audience by singing 40 which was modest and humble. It kinda worked and everyone appreciated it.
I have a 6 day break until the next U2 show. Hopefully Bono will feel better by then.
City of Blinding Lights was a nice ending before my 6 day U2 withdrawal.
