Great place to go when you want BBQ. I had their beef brisket and ribs, brisket was awesome. Didn’t get to try it but the pulled pork is supposed to be their most popular.

Good alder smoke. Bbq sauce was a bit light but that’s the way it’s supposed to be… service was good and they were good to my daughter. Portions were solid and I left happy and full.

Read about George’s on Unilocal and I new I had to experience it for myself. It didn’t live up to my expectations! I had the sausage and my wife had the pulled pork taco’s. Our sides consisted of deep fried pickles, coleslaw, and a tossed salad. I must say that my wife’s selection of pulled pork tacos … Was much better than mine. They were delicious. The coleslaw could of used more dressing. Our overall experience was good and we will be back. We’re just going to try something different off the menu.

Good food and atmosphere. Has all the standard BBQ joint grub. It’s rich in flavour and has a wide variety of meat. They are located in a commercial part of town and have bacon Nanaimo bars… Wait a Nanaimo bar in Nanaimo? I’m forever changed. #TheBitk #BrosInTheKnow

Food is ok. I can make better cornbread. The chicken and pork are a little on the fatty side for my taste. I hate the dressing on the coleslaw it’s got dijon or something. Ugh. Fries are good, poutines are good. Sandwiches are ok. Service is nothing special. I don’t go out of my way to eat here. It’s really more a 2.5 star than a 3.

Portion sizes are very small. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, my grandfather ordered the two meat platter. My sandwich was nice, however it had almost twice as much meat as was on my grandfathers platter, combined. My order cost roughly $ 10 and his cost $ 16.50.

I love this place!!! Never been to a bbq resturant like this place! Awesome food! Awesome service! The staff were so helpful and friendly! They explained how the ordering went and when we were in the middle of our meal they came and asked us how everything was. They actually do care about their customers! They had so much to choose from. Everything looked so good! My sandwich was the best pulled pork ever! I wish I had more time that I could try more items off the menu. Defantaty going back next time Im on the island!

I’ve been smoking baby backs at home for years, and it’s fair to say I’m spoiled. I prefer Hickory for my smoker — it has a stronger flavour than Alder — but give these nice folks full credit for the taste of their ribs. I do prefer baby backs to side ribs(which George’s uses) as I find the texture better, but nobody’s likely to be disappointed with these ribs. The sauce was good, but I’m a spicy kind of guy, and would have added a habenero or two :-) The corn bread was absolutely first rate, period. The small side of beans shared the tasty smokey taste of the ribs; I’m no fan of vinegret slaw, but give top marks for its crispy freshness. If you want real Southern BBQ, you may be disappointed. North Carolina it’s not, but it’s as close as you will likely get in Nanaimo. I plan on trying the pulled pork next visit.

Out of the way but worth the hunt. Looking for melt in your mouth BBQ mid-Island? Look no farther. This place is the real mcoy North Carolina style BBQ with nice vinegar based BBQ sauce that you can buy and take away. We had the beef brisket, pork ribs and poutine with pulled pork. All tender and just the right amount of fat in the meat to keep it moist. Beware. Meat lovers only… That’s what they do. The smoky tenderness of the pulled pork was a great complement to the gravey and crispy fries. If the gravey was a bit hotter the curds would have melted into blissful cheesy goodness. Next time… The Chilli was a nice peppery side order along with the fresh and vinegar based cabbage slaw. It worked well with the meat. For those who want BBQ, George’s is an oasis and a must stop over right off highway 19 in northern Nanaimo.

Delicious, friendly and quick! I’m personally not a fan of the gravy used on the Poutine but I sampled the Smoked Sausage, Pulled Pork Taco and the Pit Beans and they were all fantastic! Love the décor and the old timey soda

Came here on a sunday afternoon… The place is about 70% full… since I dunno what to order I order the Smokin’ combo plate with ribs and pull pork and fries. Order came after 10 mins or so… Just long enough for u to get excited. The portion wasn’t huge … Had three pieces of ribs and I would say approx a cup vol worth of pull ribs. got coleslaw and beans(kind of like chili) on the side . The ribs. my god it’s good… The outside is dry and have many spices on it… But when u take a bite… The I side is juicy … You just get flooded with the meat’s smoky flavor… Next try the pull pork … I always worry they are just a dried mess… But nope. not here… There’s a good mixture of lean meat and fat that theres flavor and moisture. there are sauce on the pull pork but not too much that it covers the meats natural flavor. fries are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside without being over cooked. beans are good… I never really like chili or beans but this place. they make it good. my least fav thing on the table is the coleslaw… But that’s prob just my azn side speaking. all I can say Abt the coleslaw is that it’s fresh and crunchy. maybe a little on the sour side ? But my god the ribs are good. gotta come back sometime

So my wife and I stopped in here for lunch on Saturday while we were in Nanaimo visiting my folks. We had heard of the restaurant by watching You Gotta Eat Here! on the Food Network. We looked at the menu and before my wife had a chance to make up her mind I ordered the Smokin’ George’s BBQ Feast for the two of us. She really wasn’t in the mood to eat lots of food but I wasn’t taking no for an answer. When our order was brought to our table we couldn’t believe how much meat and sides there were for us to eat. I was repeatedly told to «just stop eating and take the leftovers home with us» but I couldn’t stop devouring the incredible selection of BBQ’d meat laid out before me. After all the meat was gone I started in on the fries, beans, coleslaw, and cornbread. I couldn’t believe how good the sides were. In fact, I had the beans, coleslaw and half piece of cornbread that I just couldn’t fit inside my stomach packaged to take home for later. Normally I find the sides at most BBQ joints to be forgettable but at Smokin’ George’s they come close to stealing the show. So, the meat is unbelievably delicious, the sides are a can’t miss, and I should add that the young bespectacled woman who took our order was very pleasant to deal with and we appreciated her checking up with us more than once to ensure our satisfaction. I’ll be back.

Had the Porkinator and it was simply DELICIOUS! Pulled pork, bacon and brisket, what a combination. The bacon is the star in the bun, which brings out the pulled pork and the brisket. Curry, carrot and coconut soup hit the spot on a windy, cold but sunny day. Simple décor but very clean(well, we were the first ones there).

Oh Smokin’ George’s, how my wife and I miss thee! Seriously, we’re living in Calgary, AB and have yet to find a place that is as good as Smokin’ George’s. We’ve tried almost everything on the menu at least once and have never been disappointed. Well, the only time we’re disappointed is when we lived in town and had a hankering for some BBQ later at night and they were closed. If you haven’t eaten here yet, do yourself a favour and get on over to Smokin’ George’s. The food is great, the staff is awesome. They make everything from scratch, including their absolutely delicious cornbread. When we come back to Nanaimo again to visit family etc, we will definitely be stopping by Smokin’ George’s to partake in what another reviewer called«carnivorous bliss»!!!
