I had a late lunch here with my parents today. My dad loved it, but my mom and I both thought it was just ok. The prices can’t be beat though. They have the cheapest phở prices I’ve seen in Ottawa. So for the phở, you get to choose the amount of toppings that you want(up to 6 toppings) and it’s the same price(I’m guessing if you just choose one topping, they give you more of it, and if you choose the maximum 6 toppings, you get less of each). They have 4 sizes: small, medium, large and extra large. My dad got the large beef phở with all 6 toppings($ 7.49), my mom got the small beef phở, also with all 6 toppings($ 5.49) and I got the stir-fried beef and mushrooms($ 7.75) with a bowl of steamed rice($ 1). I actually found it weird that my dish didn’t come with any rice or noodles but whatever. We also got their $ 5 appetizer special(you get 8 spring rolls — you can choose all shrimp, all pork, or 4 of each, which is what we got). The sauce in my dish was really watery. It looked more like a broth than a gravy. The beef was thinly sliced and was tender and the mushrooms were just regular white mushrooms. The dish was rather lacklustre. It didn’t have any oomph or real flavour. It was just boring. The rice was well done and you get an acceptable amount for $ 1. My dad really liked the phở broth. He said it was sweet, flavourful and tasted authentic. My mom felt that it was better than most phở places in Orleans, probably the same as most phở places in Ottawa Chinatown, but doesn’t even compare to most phở places in Toronto. So considering this place is in Bells Corners, I guess my mom’s comments are a compliment(?). I didn’t taste the phở, so I can’t comment personally. She did notice that the well done beef pieces were cut into cubes which is unusual because they are traditionally sliced. She felt the meats could have been better. The spring rolls were incredibly skinny. The girth was not much bigger than my finger(and I have glove size 6.5 little girly hands!). They were ok, but honestly, I mostly just tasted wrapper, the filling was oh so minimal. The shrimp ones tasted better than the pork ones(which mostly tasted of vermicelli and vegetables).

Wow! What an amazing little family restaurant. Every time I’ve either ordered take out or ate at the restaurant, the food has always been phenomenal just as the service. Food is portioned enough that sometimes I have to pack it up for snack later(which is SUCH a good thing). Food is very well priced such as the 5 $ for 8 spring roll deal they have had for years and the up to 6 toppings for any size phở. Every time I come in, I’m always greeted with such warm welcomes. You can tell that the workers and owner here are very genuine and approachable. Oh — and did I mention that they have a great selection of vegetarian dishes too? ;)
