New Hong Shing Restaurant

This is my absolute favourite Chinese restaurant!
I live in Barrhaven, and I find that our options for good take out is very limited. But wow, this place is AMAZING! The portion sizes are huge, prices are very reasonable, the staff is super friendly, and the food is delicious! What more could you ask for?
This place is a must try for sure!

Great news friends — this place now delivers! After searching for a new Chinese place to try, I stumbled on their menu and it looked pretty good. I then came on here, saw the favourable reviews and went for it.
We ordered a bunch of stuff: egg rolls (my favourite, hands down), springrolls, chicken fried rice, beef and broccoli, cashew chicken and veggies, and chop suey.
I found all the food to be really great. Sometimes Chinese takeout can be totally gross, greasy and unappetizing, but this was great. The spring rolls were the only thing I was unsure of, but not because they weren’t tasty, they just weren’t what I was expecting. Instead of «typical» spring rolls a-​la-​Golden Palace, these weren’t really crispy and golden and small… they were MASSIVE and filled with tons of spices and seasonings. They were yummy, but I wasn’t prepared for their size and we probably ordered too many. Oh well!
As mentioned, eggrolls were definitely the standout, and the freshness of the food was pretty good. They have a deal right now where you get a free order of chicken fried rice with any order over $ 30. Needless to say, we have chicken fried rice forever, which is okay, since it was super tasty!
This is absolutely my new go-​to for Chinese takeout.

What can I say? This place is incredible.
The hot and sour (vegetarian) soup the chef pulls off is the best ive ever had, anywhere. Ive been to china and Chinatowns around the world, its the best period. Beyond that this is definatley one of the best Chinese food restaurants in 613 and it’s nowhere near Somerset, lol farhaveners UNITE!
Seasonal special board with fresh greens, veggies and seafood. Authentic, inexpensive and very very tasty. The spicy soft shell crab is ridiculous! All the classics sizzling beef, hsaing eggplant, Ma Po tofu crispy beef peking duck … a great menu.
The chef, if you can get him talking delights in taking people on off menu adventures but hold on to your taste buds.
Side note: They do the chicken ball, spare rib thing too, though I’ve never had it I hear it’s as good as any.

We went back to have dinner again and the food was excellent. The only thing I didn’t like was the tea, which was lukewarm.

New Hong Shing has the best takeout I’ve found in Ottawa. There are a lot of things I like about it. The fellow working there (owner or owner’s son I suspect) Is über friendly and helpful. Call in an order and you’ll see what I mean. I went in there with my kids who have food allergies and he was more than willing to help figure out which dishes would be ok.
Second of all is the food. I’ve never had Chinese takeout that was so fresh tasting and crisp. Even by the time you get it home it’s still piping hot. They don’t skimp on the ginger, garlic, and spices either so you get a good depth of flavor. Crispy food is crispy and veggies are firm.
The down sides… They don’t deliver so I’ve got to cart my lazy self over to pick it up. Not a really big deal — it’s close and has lots of parking. Tthe décor isn’t much to look at. Also not a big deal for takeout.
