Fireside Public House

This pub is under new management, so my husband and I thought we’d check it out. Yiiiikes. I’m all for dingy or divey bars, however, this place was disgusting.
The icing on the cake was when we decided to sit at the bar. There were 2 empty seats at the bar next to another chair w/​a briefcase. We sat down and ordered our drinks. A man comes storming over ranting and raving because he was sitting in the corner and «How could you not see my drink was there». I replied «I’m sorry, but I saw your drink in the seat with your briefcase, would you like me to move over? I could sit in the corner if you’d like». At which point he started ignoring us. The bartender gave no mind and started joking with the fellow.
We ordered our drinks and enjoyed the karaōke but left pretty quickly. The guy next to us began taking pictures of us. Ha! He was obviously a regular and it was made very clear we were not welcome, to sit at a bar, in empty seats, next to someone who may dare be a regular. Jesus christ. When we left I said, «Hey, thanks for letting us into your space! Have a great night.» to which he replied «No problem, you obviously need a ton of space».
Yikes. Avoid this place at all costs — if you’re looking for decent people, if you’re looking for good beer, if you’re looking for a clean environment, and if you’re looking for somewhere to order food. Go anywhere else at all.

We really enjoyed our times here at this friendly pub in the heart of Sapperton’s Brewery District. OK, the bathrooms were gross, and the place is a bit dingy, but it’s a pub after all. We have to agree with the other reviews about the food. We had the special of the day: chicken cordon bleu with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. HUGE PORTIONS and really tasty. The drink specials were a bargain, and the staff was attentive and personable. We will be back for sure!

This place is just disgusting. Flies everywhere, dark and dingy, just a horrible place that needs to be knocked down with a wrecking ball and have something new built in it’s place. Avoid at all costs !!!

I moved into the area a couple of months ago and already have been here a few times now and have made this my go to place when I don’t want a fuss and just want to chill.
What others have said about washrooms, definitely awful but the food and portions thereof are great for the price. Besides, where else can you go, kick back in a really relaxed atmosphere and have a chance to win «meat!» I actually like the place because the service is very good, the food is tasty and I personally like the neighbourly feel. I don’t always want to feel like I have to get dressed up to go for a beer and a bite!
I recommend this little gem but advise, go with an open mind and an appetite!

I can’t argue with Catherine’s description of the Fireside. Except for her comment regarding the groceries. I’ve never been disappointed with the portion size.
And size does matter to me. For groceries.
The place is indeed a touch above a dive. It has that true neighbourhood meeting place feel.
It’s my first choice for watching a game and a decent choice for groceries.
If they upgraded the TVs, it would be a five star choice for the sports fan.
But I’ll give it a solid got stars!

Last night was hockey night and what goes hand in hand for those of us that can’t afford tickets to the actual game? Beer, pub and good friends.
The good about the pub is that it’s small and you can see every tele pretty well and it wasn’t overly crowded. Our waitress was nice, efficient and we all felt comfortable.
The down side to the pub was that the food portions were pretty small, or at least mine was. The beer was a little overpriced for the atmosphere, the bathroom was appalling and the pool table was in a very inconvenient place. A player knocked on of our chairs not paying attention to what was around them.
If my friends are going I will definitely be back but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.
