The outside is a little deceptive because the food is amazing. Reminds me of cellar restaurants in Europe. The food is excellent and the price relatively very reasonable. Atmosphere was amazing. The on tap wine could be a little more desirable however they have some local wines that are decent. The filet mignon was excellent and very up there in quality and cook. Even the French fries were excellent. We all he a five course meal some of which opted to have wine as a course in lieu. I would definitely recommend this place. It is a 4.5 star rating for sure. Well worth the cost and flavour profiles were above what I had expected. A true do not judge the book by its cover

Whoa! Talk about a diamond in the rough. I would not have ever expected a place like this would be right now in the thick of things in Niagara Falls. With the level that this food is on, I would expect it to be out in Niagara on the Lake or in a Winery. I went with a large party with work and we were places in a semi private room in the back, which was a really nice setting. The manager/owner was very active and made sure we had all of our questions answered with a good sense of humour on top of it. The menu was well laid out, and the price was amazing for the 5 course dinner. My wife and I shared the 5 course dinner taking the Caesar Salad(Amazing), mussels(possibly the best I have ever had), fried goats cheese(blew my mind), and the special for the night which was a bacon wrapped fillet with espresso sauce and coffee cooked into it. And then a glass of wine for my wife for the final choice to round out the 5. All of the food was amazing, but let me focus in on the fried goats cheese. I am not a fan of goats cheese, but my wife loves it, so it was ordered. I’m not sure what kind of voodoo they cast on this goat, but it was absolutely amazing. I highly suggest this. Maybe even get a few of them. I will come back here, 100%. Amazing date spot.

I laughed reading Anna N.‘s review, hoping her enthusiasm wasn’t going to set my expectations too high. Well, it did set expectations but Weinkeller met them at the door to its beautiful, cozy wine cellar. I had the Warm Winter Salad, the Goat Cheese appetizer, and the special Bacon Wrapped Filet with a coffee rub. The first two were simple and impressive, with high quality ingredients. The filet, with an espresso cream sauce, made the meal an unforgettable experience. I also tried a few bites of the chocolate espresso dessert with a touch of cayenne — boom. They make their own wines. The owner sat us, the chef came out and asked us how our meal was. Reasonable prices for the quality. It doesn’t get any better than this.

SCATTERMYASHESATWEINKELLER(But don’t actually because that would be SUCH a contamination issue/health hazard.) But like, metaphorically… I want to die here. I mean, I spiritually went to another dimension whilst dining here a few weeks ago. So yea Weinkeller is the real deal, don’t ever eat anywhere else, what’s the point of dining out anymore after this, etc, because this restaurant is the epitome of service, amazing food and ambiance. Weinkeller exists in a very funny place — in a sea of overpriced chains and mediocre establishments, Weinkeller is a shining diamond, a ray of hope, basically the future of dining in the region(or one would hope). And the future looks good! Located in in a lower ground space, WK is a bit of grotto, with a «lots of brick, burgundy & dim-lighting» sensuality, BUT, it also has a bit of your«Italian nonna’s basement» feel as well, sooooo — Weinkeller — excellent to bring your grandmother too, but also your date. We arrived to our 7 pm reservation and it was poppin’ — not a single empty table and people filtered through for the entire duration we were there. The the crowd was quite varied; a table of adorable older folks, in a wine induced group cackle, a quiet family of four, lots of well-behaved 20 somethings, which brings me to the main crux of why Weinkeller is so so amazing: The food is refined, yet completely approachable. Simple ingredients, classic dishes and rich culinary accents that take the food to another level. My partner and I started with a double order of their Oysters Four Ways — each oyster is fresh and topped with different lil’ things — white wine compote thing, red wine jus thing and two others that we didnt entirely love, BUTSTILL, DELICIOUSSLURPAAYOYSTERSALLUPINMAMOUTH. Conclusively, the oysters were a general hit for us. Despite being busy, our server was amazing, attentive and informative — he described each menu item we inquired about, answered all our questions, and generally made our night by being al all around awesome dude. I upgraded to their secret menu maple bacon wrapped filet mignon and let me just say HOLYSHIT. Like, that steak whammed-bammed-thank-you-mam’d me and the espresso sauce truly made it for me as I have NEVEREVERINMYGDLIFE ever tasted a sauce so thrilling and exciting to my palette. And the truffle fries, UGH, heaven is a place where Weinkeller truffle fries rain from the sky all day every day. I honestly sat there in a stupor being like«what just happened? is this real? where am I? I don’t know what life is anymore.» Like, this food reached deep into my fucking soul and SHOOKMYCORE. But in a good way. I promise. And usually, I’m not a dessert course person, but WK turned me into a believer and so there I was ready for more. So I ordered the deep fried chocolate stuffed wontons as a lark thinking«this is going to be disgusting and overwhelming and too rich hahahah I’m an idiot» but then it arrived, and they were perfect little bite sized things and totally amazing as they felt rich and yet also light enough that I ate THEWHOLEGDPLATEANDFELTSOOOOOOGOOOD. Weinkeller foreverz.

Wow. I tried oysters here for the first time and I regret not trying them Sooner! The waiter was very nice. he made me a sour apple martini(found a fly in it) no problem he took it back and made me a peachy, pineapple sweet alcoholic beverage which was even Better and more delicious and he didn’t charge me for the other drink. Thanks to this restaurant, I’m crazy for oysters now. I wasn’t that hungry, so I did not try the rest of the food on the menu, which is so not like me! Try the oysters I recommend!

Had dinner here in a half full restaurant on a Tuesday night in December. Great service and above average food. The $ 605-course selection allows you to have a main course and mix-n-match from there. We each had 2 appetizers and 2 glasses of wine. The best of the selections were the fried goat cheese, the tuna tataki(small though), the chicken pot pie bites and poached salmon. The house wine is also not bad for the price.

Top notch! This place is so cozy, romantic and overall just comfy. Upon being greeted we were told to pick the seat that we wanted. I like sitting next to my boyfriend so that was great, no forced sitting across from each other. We took our time reviewing the menu and it was fabulous so many fun things to try. The owner greeted us and told a little about himself and the restaurant. It was very refreshing to meet him and chat. The server explained the menu and helped up make some choices. We ended up getting the pick 5 and was able to get wine as two of the choices. The wine is made there and offers fabulous notes of fruit, oak as well as full bodied. We started with the fried goat cheese, fabulous! It’s silky, sweet and oh so yummy. We also had the mussels with the best truffle fries. These were great and a large portion. I had the steak with béarnaise sauce and really enjoyed it. My boyfriend had the salmon with herb butter and it was juicy and tender. The sides were really special too veggies, rice and more of those amazing fries. This is the fine dining yet comfy dining you need to try for yourself!

Such a great dining experience. Totally recommend to anyone I. The area looking for a real restaurant and not a big chain to have a meal. Three points I wanna make for this review. 1) the service 2) the food 3) the wine. First off, make reservations. We went on a Saturday and called in the morning for reservations and all they had was a 9pm seating for our table of 2. We didn’t mind that at all but not everyone eats that late so call ahead! We arrived a few minutes early and they sat us right away! Every staff member we encountered was super friendly. Our server was actually the Owner/Manager Chris, and he was just awesome. Obviously very knowledgable on the menu and wines and had a great sense of humour and was more than attentive to us throughout the whole experience. The chef came out to greet us at the end of the meal which I always appreciate and think every chef should make the effort to do that at each service. Just awesome! The ambiance was great! Perfect setting for a micro-winery, as it has a cellar feel to it. Secondly, the food. Wow, just incredible. We did the 3 course menu and loved every minute of it. We had the carpaccio and fried goats cheese to start. Amazing! Anything with truffle oil always gets a huge thumbs up from me. I think I probably said«this is so good» after every bite, literally. We the. Had the linguini with shrimp and chicken supreme as our mains. The linguini was OUTOFTHISWORLD, and I wish I knew how to recreate the arugula pesto at home cause I could eat that every day. The supreme was also awesome. Great mushroom sauce that came highly recommended from our server. The mash potatoes were so amazing, we never wanted them to end. We ate every last bite of food and were so stuffed because everything was so incredible we couldn’t stop ourselves. Lastly, the wine. Chris let us have wine as our final course. Yes people, they let you have wine as a course!!! We had already shared a bottle of the Pinot Noir they carry but wanted to try their wines. Because we were indecisive, Chris brought us samples of a couple so that we could make the choice which was awesome. We ended up going with the cab sauv and it was beautiful. They have their own blends on tap! Which is a cool concept and makes their wines by the glass really affordable while still delicious. We stayed long after the meal was over because we just didn’t want it to end. We spent some time talking with Chris and thought it was very nice of him to spend time doing that. All in all, they knocked it out if the park and I will be telling everyone I know visiting the area to make sure they go there. It’s right on the blue line and the Victoria Ave stop is at the front door of the restaurant so it’s also very convenient to get to. Also has a parking lot beside that charges $ 5 for the day so that seemed great too. Check it out you won’t be disappointed. Thanks Chris and Rob for an unforgettable dining experience and a great dinner for our anniversary!

Make a reservation! Had to wait a few minutes because there was a backlog. Went with my girlfriend and she got the 3 course. I went with 5 courses. Food was great! Mussels, tuna tataki, beef carpaccio for appetizers. I upgraded to the filet mignon as my main for an extra $ 10. Delicious — espresso crusted and bacon wrapped. Paired my meal with nice red wine. Service was very attentive. Got our water before we asked. Each course came at the right time. Would definitely visit again!

Chose this place last minute with some friends on 10÷23÷15. It was single handedly one of the greatest dining experiences I’ve ever had. They offer a unique single price for a 3 or 5 course meal. You can even choose alcohol as one or multiple courses. Note they make their own wine and complementary sparkling water. It’s clear their chef is considerate of each flavor presented! The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Beautiful décor and artwork tastefully compliment the surroundings. As for the service, beyond professional! The host was gracious and helpful, he even spent time suggesting wines we may like. Our server, Kaleigh was charming, well mannered, considerate, and made us all feel right at home. She guided us gracefully through the dining experience and recommended personalized flavored for our palette. I’m sure all the staff are fantastic, but if you can get sat with Kaleigh you’ll not only receive 5 star service, but feel like a member of the Weinkeller family. Thank you Weinkeller, you rock!!! A must try!!!

We were visiting Niagara Falls and the Canadian side, we wanted to figure we would like to get dinner outside of the usual big chain restaurants. We found this place one Unilocal and decided«hey, $ 50cad for 5 course dinner?» Why not! So we made reservation online and showed up early. I think we made the earliest reservation and it was good because it wasn’t crowded yet. Now to the menu, at first it can be confusing but after chatting with our server, we got it! So… $ 50cad for 5 items. You get 1 entrée item and for the other 4 items, feel free to pick a combination of appetizers, wine/beer, salad/soup or desserts. So for example, the husband got 3 apps, 1 entrée and 1 dessert. I got 2 apps, 1 entrée, 1 house wine and 1 dessert. Between the two of us, we tried the goat cheese app, seared tuna, beef carpaccio, mussel and truffles fries, potpie fingers, filet mignon($ 10 upcharge) and hanger steak. Wow. delicious!!! We loved everything especially the coffee rubbed mignon. That was my favorite. I’d definitely recommend coming here for dinner and enjoy as many dishes as you wish. Note that all fries items are truffles fries. I say it here because the husband wasn’t a fan of truffles and didn’t enjoy the fries, but that’s personal. I loved the fries tho :)

Great spot for a cozy and delicious meal! The menu really surprised me in terms of how creative and gourmet it was. I had the ahi tuna, fried goat cheese, and cedar plank salmon. Don’t miss the fried goat cheese! The bartender said it was their specialty and he wasn’t lying! I stopped in here after being in town a few days on business. I saw it had good reviews and was in the mood for a wine oriented bar. This place certainly delivered on the food and is getting there on the wine. They are trying to specialize in their own house made wine with a few other options. I get it, that’s respectable but the problem was none of the wine really knocked my socks off. Don’t despair, the menu options certainly make up for it! It’s not an overly long menu, but boy what they do have on there looks awesome! And I can’t leave out that I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this place was in fact the old Wild Mushroom! For any long time Niagara Falls goers, this name will ring a bell… a deliciously divy pizza bar that didn’t even bother putting doors on the bathroom.(Note, Weinkeller has certainly made some improvements in that domain!). It was great to be back in that same sub-basement where I had plenty of fond memories from undergrad trips from Rochester, NY!

Average meal, TERRIBLEWINES. So terrible that the volatile acidity could be smelled wafting from every table. I sent back one glass only to experience the same terrible wine quality in another glass. I couldn’t even take a second sip. Obnoxious manager, under qualified wait staff. The soup and salad were yummy but other meals were bleh.

Eating at Weinkeller was a great experience! I booked a reservation via OpenTable after deciding to visit Niagara over Labor Day weekend. Even on a Sunday, the place was relatively filled with people who appeared to be having a good time. Seated almost immediately, we had the opportunity to look over the menu. Our waiter and the owner took the time to go over the options with my boyfriend and I, and we each decided to do the«5 course Weinkeller Experience». The five courses to choose from were Soup, Salad, Appetizer, Entrée, Dessert, and Alcohol pairing. You could customize your entire experience, opting for a salad, entrée, dessert, and two glasses of wine, or one entrée and four glasses of wine. It seemed as long as you came out to five items, you were good to go. The order of them did not even matter. A man sitting next to us had wine, an appetizer, an entrée, and then decided to eat soup and dessert. Wine: We both used one of our courses to try to their local wine. We tried the Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay — both were very good. Soup: my boyfriend started with the daily soup: red pepper. It was very similar to a red pepper bisque, but still plentiful and tasted delicious. All of their ingredients are fresh and locally grown, which undoubtedly added to the experience. Salad: I got the seasonal salad(greens, blueberries, sliced almonds, grilled pears, and a light white wine vinaigrette), and my boyfriend got the Caesar salad. I thought my salad was delicious. I was a little apprehensive about grilled pears, but their consistency and taste were literally perfection. Added with the house sweet white wine vinaigrette, it quickly became my favorite part of the meal. The Caesar was also very good, but did not stand out as anything special. Appetizer: I got the Chicken Pot Pies(similar to pizza bits only filled with chicken potpie filling and a cranberry aioli sauce on top) and my boyfriend got the famous fried goat cheese. The Chicken Pot Pie bites were delicious. The seasoning was spot on and the portion size perfect. The friend goat cheese, while one of the most popular items on the menu, just was not our favorite. The flavoring of the fried coating was very sweet and the overall size of the appetizer was large(equating to just a lot of goat cheese). It was fun to try, but definitely not our favorite part. Entrée: At this point, we were growing very tired and full. After driving 16 of the past 24 hours, walking all day in the heat, and enjoying the first three courses without hesitation, we struggled to finish what should be the most important part of the meal. Nevertheless, we did eat enough to enjoy ourselves. I got the pork loin chop, blackened with an apple cider reduction, and my boyfriend got the NY Steak with béarnaise sauce. Both were absolutely cooked to perfection. The sweetness of the apple cider reduction definitely mellowed out any spices they used to marinate the pork, and our side items definitely complemented the meat dishes. The NY Steak got an average review from my boyfriend, saying it was nothing special as compared to another steak dish one could experience elsewhere. Dessert: This was the only sad portion of my meal. I ordered the crème brûlée. The vanilla custard inside was delicious, but the sugar/caramel top layer had a very strong taste of burnt sugar(outside of what is expected for crème brûlée). I ended up avoiding the top layer to enjoy the custard. My boyfriend decided to try something new and got their chocolate wontons, which turned out to be very similar to a chocolate crêpe in bite sized pieces with ice cream(and of course just as good). Overall, it was a great experience, and one we will certainly remember as we continue to travel. If you are looking for a romantic, one of a kind restaurant(away from the gimmicks of Clifton Hill), definitely check out Weinkeller!

When my best friend came to Toronto for a visit, we decided to drive out to Niagara Falls for the day with our significant others. We researched some restaurants for dinner the week before our trip out and after seeing the excellent reviews on Unilocal, decided to make reservations at Weinkeller. It was quite possibly the best decision we’ve ever made! Weinkeller offers a romantic ambiance full of personalized service. The owner of the restaurant visited our table multiple times to discuss how the evening was going. Our waiter educated us about the restaurant’s history and beliefs around supporting local products. He was also readily available for all our questions and inquiries and displayed a great amount of care in his service. The menu is designed to choose between a 3 course meal for $ 50 or a 5 course meal for $ 60. The way this works is you get one entrée in your 3 or 5 course meal, but you can use dessert, drinks, appetizers, soups, or salads for any of the additional courses. All 4 of us decided to go for the 5 course meal option and it was AMAZING! We ordered a glass of wine from their in-house wine selection which the waiter gave us ample opportunities to sample the wine choices before confirming our choice. The caesar salad was everyone’s choice for their first course. It was delicately dressed with the addition of more dressing painted along the bottom of the plate for diners to choose how flavourful they’d like their salad. It was quite possibly the best caesar salad I’ve ever had with a strong garlic punch and maple bacon sprinkled on top! We shared the charcuterie board, fried goat cheese, and beef carpaccio for our second round. The fried goat cheese truly silenced the table. Everyone savoured each bite of that delicious plate. The charcuterie board offered 3 types of meats, cheeses, pickled vegetables, and a peach compote to be eaten over crostini. The beef carpaccio was maybe the only item in the second course that wasn’t immediately devoured by the group. While it was still tasty, it however, was hard to compare to the other dishes that were so scrumptious! The entrees were mostly comprised of the steak options, however ordered in 3 different ways. The steak with au jus is saucy, the steak with house steak sauce was packed with flavour, and the steak with bearnaise was rich and delectable. They were all cooked to perfection alongside tasty truffled parmesan fries and local roasted veggies. If you decide to order the steak, the most delicious accompaniment would be the freshly shaved horseradish. It’s full of the distinctive taste of horseradish with much less of the bite. Lastly, we ordered all of the available dessert options with crème brûlée and the in-house baked cheesecake being the big winners. I recommend ordering a french pressed coffee alongside your dessert to truly finish your experience on a high note. Our entire dining experience lasted 3 hours and every morsel of food was exceptional. I highly, highly recommend this restaurant for food lovers. This will be my go-to restaurant any time I make my way south to the falls. –Ashley Marie

Weinkeller had excellent service — the owner was so friendly and the waiters were also very good. The food was okay. We ordered the prix fixe menu where you can choose anything from drinks to appetizers to desserts for a 3 or 5 course meal(I chose the 3 and my boyfriend chose the 5): DRINKS:(Wine) SMOKEDSALMONBISQUE (Smoked in house and finished with crème fraiche and fried capers) This was too salty on first taste but it got better after a few scoops. The good thing about this was that it was really hot — it opened our appetite up for the night. TUNATATAKAY (Sweet & spicy, dusted and seared rare, with a citrus salad & wasabi crème fraiche) I liked this one and the sauce it came with was also delicious. The citrus salad was yummy — we liked the veggie that came with it too. BEEFCARPACCIO (Hand carved seared tenderloin, herb crusted and served with Panzanella salad) We both didn’t like the carpaccio because the beef was cooked. It was cooked to a point where the beef was dry haha… D: HANDCARVEDNEWYORKSTEAK(8OZCERTIFIEDANGUSBEEF) [x2] (Grilled with béarnaise sauce) The angus beef was good but I think the fries and veggies that came on the side won over — I liked the veggies. The fries tasted like it was drizzled with truffle oil or something; smelt really good! SEMIFREDO (An almost frozen Chocolate mousse ice cream with espresso and a hint of cayenne pepper) I’m not a big fan of spice with desserts but it was highly recommended so I thought I’d give it a try. Buuutttt… I still don’t like it hahaha

What a place to just wind down from all the touristing! You can’t see into the actual place, the windows are frosted and is actually basically at floor level so gives the place a very private but elegant ambience. The wines here are on tap! What?! They pour their wines… from the tap. I LOVED the cabernet Frank, sooooo yummy! Really great service here, came around just the right amount of times. This place also serves food but I didn’t have it so I can’t comment too much but i do know that it’s a prix fix type of deal, you could do 3 course or a 5 course– which you could choose whether you want more food or more drinks, either 3 courses and 2 drinks or 2 courses and 3 drinks, etc. What a swell idea!

This was our first time at Weinkeller. We were seated promptly at a table for two. The table was much longer than it was wide, which was a little strange as we felt as if we were sitting awfully far apart. It made dinner conversation a little difficult without sharing our thoughts with neighbouring tables. The waiter explained that the prix fixe meals were either $ 45 for 3 courses or $ 55 for 5 courses. With the more expensive option one could substitute up to 2 glasses of house wine(made in-house, served on tap) for 2 of the courses. We decided to go with this option. He explained that the special was an espresso rubbed fillet Mignon which sounded wonderful, so we both went with this entrée. He did not explain that this meant an extra $ 10 per person and we didn’t find this out until we were paying our bill. My first course was the oysters 4 ways, which was 4 raw oysters with different toppings and all were fresh-tasting and delicious although the oysters were lukewarm rather than chilled as I’ve come to expect when eating them raw. My husband had the tuna Tatakay which was served with a wasabi cream and citrus salad and this was also very good. I had the tuna Tatakay for my second course and my husband had the deep fried goat cheese which was served with honey, sundried tomatoes and roasted garlic. He really enjoyed the dish and thought all the flavours went very well together. The star of both our meals was the fillet Mignon. It had an espresso rub and was served with a coffee sauce which was wonderful. The fillet was so tender that it melted in the mouth. It was also served with parmesan frites which were very nice. The restaurant is downstairs and looks sort of like a German tavern with lots of carved wooden beams. It has a really good energetic atmosphere while still feeling laid back and relaxed. All in all, we had a really nice meal and would probably return. We just wish we’d been informed ahead of time about the extra $ 10 for the special.

My wife and I wanted to have a special dinner on our last night in Niagara… so we turned to the Internet for recommendations. Weinkeller was tops on the list for dinner so we made a reservation for 7:00PM on a Thursday night. We were greeted warmly by Chris and were seated promptly. Our server explained the prix fixe menu… and since we’ve done our«homework» prior to coming over(and not being wine drinkers — although we tried two of their less dry/fruitier white wines but passed on both), my wife opted for the tomato bisque and the refreshing seasonal summer salad with fresh greens, raspberries, and grilled peaches… while I tried the fried goat cheese with whole roasted garlic, truffle honey & rosemary(very yummy… highly recommended and touted as best appetizer ever)…and for the entrees, we opted for the 8 oz. New York steak with Bearnaise sauce and the Blackened Pork Loin. We then shared a chocolate mouse with French press-made coffee… delicious ending to our wonderful meal. The meal, the ambiance, the service all added up to a very memorable dining experience. The Executive Chef even came out to see how we liked the food. Some folks might complain or notice the relatively slow service, but my wife and I savored the experience and didn’t mind it a bit… well maybe just a bit.
