Ryan’s Roti & Jerk has been open in Oshawa for a couple of years. It had previously been located in Scarborough, according to whom I assume is the wife/co-owner. Their full menu is available online and they even deliver(JustEat). You’ll find an assortment of roti and rice/noodle meals(goat, Chicken, beef, shrimp curries), as well staple snacks like polari and doubles. Restaurant size: This is a small place, about the same size as its neighbour New Century Chinese. More catered toward takeout, rather than a sit and dine or large groups. Portion size: Quite adequate! We ordered 3 rotis and 2 doubles for 3 adults and we had leftovers. Service: Straightforward and fast. If you get a chance to chat with the husband and wife, it makes for great conversation! (Aside: We both remarked at how much friendlier/laid back people and life was in Oshawa compared to our old homes in Scarborough) Cash is king, but if you decide to pay by Visa/MC you’ll incur an extra $ 1.70 service fee. Interac/debit is charge-free. Food quality: Had the doubles with slight spice and it hit the spot. However, the barra was noticeably tougher and drier than other establishments like Drupati’s… The rotis could have been a bit hotter(temperature-wise), but I understand how finicky that could be at times. Out of the regular Jerk Chicken, beef and goat curry rotis, I enjoyed the goat the most. Another person in my party stated the goat was a bit gamey(is that the English translation of the Chinese term?) and preferred the beef instead. The Jerk Chicken was bland and watery. Perhaps next time I’ll get slight spice in the rotis too(didn’t want to overload my party too quickly). Final thoughts: Nice friendly place to quickly grab a roti or doubles!
