The service was prompt, and the server was never far away, VERY professional ANDVERY knowledgable. 5⁄5 stars. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm, even with it being –25C outside. The lightening wasn’t too dark as some restaurants. The music was a nice mix of modern music, and not overly loud. The food and beverage came quick and correct. It was nice to see the menu be slightly different from other restaurants. 5⁄5 stars for the taste and quality of food.

This place has a particular bar atmosphere with a lounge in the back, lots of beer choices(as a bier market should) and several big screen TVs so you are essentially guaranteed to catch the game, whichever game it may be at the time. The booths are relatively comfortable and the beer we tried tasted quite decent. My three star review comes from a couple different aspects. The service was not fantastic as we were left at our table for quite a while before being served, waited quite a while for our beer once we ordered(it was not very busy), and barely saw our any staff after our beer arrived. The female staff were all dressed in very tight, short dresses, appears to be a dress code requirement and a couple of the girls didn’t look particularly comfortable. Lastly, it was incredibly loud, even in the lounge area in the back, and it really was not that busy –the noise came from the many televisions and the few customers in the front; the acoustics don’t do any favours for this establishment. I would go back with friends for a game night/bar experience but I doubt I’d ever be a regular.

Wannabe pub italia in my opinion. The rustic and old school atmosphere felt very contrived. I went for the fondue festival and the cheese came out barely lukewarm, with a tealight which did not do much to make it warm. The pot should come out piping hot. The beer menu is overwhelming and the tables are too crowded together in the back. Even the bread was cold. VERY underwhelmed.

Oh bliss!!! … When all else falls short of your hoppy expectations in Ottawa the biermarkt will tow the line(and then some). Beer paired with food? What a concept! The wings divine paired with the black IPA(Brewdog Libertine) sang to me… The mussels and frites for the entre were just perfect. The staff and service were top notch. Nice décor and comfortable ambiance made for a perfect Boxing Day treat. I will definitely be back to this place!

Went for dinner. Tried the beef sliders. Dry, unseasoned. And they put French fries on them as a condiment? Very strange and added no taste anyway. The fries were good — I tried my boyfriends. My guests seemed happy with their food. Steaks, Abt sandwich and schnitzel. Service was not impressive. A lot of girls just walking around not actually accomplishing anything. *An annoying photographer was also taking photos everywhere. I found this annoying because I feel someone should ask permission before taking your photo. Not cool.

I love their crab dip and grilled smoked ham and cheese(which comes with a Swiss cheese fondue). Delicious! One disappointing thing is that they do not have root beer. The place is pretty noisy, but food is served rather quickly at lunch time. The last few times I went at lunch(on weekdays), I went around 11:45am and no reservation was needed. But the place filled up quickly.

Been here a few times now mostly for appies and drinks for they have a variety of beers to choose from. Hadn’t had dinner and decided to finally try the veal schnitzel boy was the portion pretty big and it was delicious. Our server was super friendly and checked on us a few times to make sure everything was good. So far i’ve always had great service when I go and will for sure keep coming back!

I don’t have a lot to say about this place because I’m not a beer drinker. They have a very large selection of beers, obviously, so that has to be the draw. It’s a really nice place inside. Very sleek pub-style with high ceilings. My friend and I stopped in for a bite, so I ordered an old standby: French onion soup. It was really good. Really cheesy and not too salty. My friend said her chicken sandwich was«okay,» as was the service we had. The fries are good though. If I was hungrier, I would have gone for the brunch menu. Some nice selections there, mainly eggs Benedict options. Will return!

Like many reviews before me I will say that their large beer selection is good, but their food quality is lacking. I had the calamari, which was small, dry, and tasteless. My main was the fish and chips which were also dry and forgettable. If you’re looking for a drink with friends I world say go here, but if you’re looking for dinner I would recommend that you pass.

Very LOUD! just be ready, we all had to yell to talk to each other. Visiting Ottawa, and this is on Sparks Street, which is a nice pedestrian street. Shops on it are kind of crappy, but they have entertaining street performers. Waiter was nice, but very rushed. Explained he had two waiters missing from staff. They have three dollars for a slider so I had the cheeseburger. Not bad. Just a basic, kind of dry burger. Had the salmon with quinoa cakes and tried the curry chicken. Salmon was okay, but I didn’t really like the cakes. Curry was good, it was a pretty simple meal served with rice and peas. Couple next to me did not like their penne pasta, I forget what the meal was called. Overall just an average eatery, nothing good or delicious really stood out in my mind.

I went here for lunch recently with my husband and some of his friends and I was disappointed :( I had the Vitagreens Salad($ 13) and I added a salmon filet for an extra $ 6. For $ 19, I expected a big salad with fresh ingredients. What I got was a small salad with wilted greens. The Vitagreens Salad is baby kale, spinach, arugula and romaine hearts, with almonds and«quinoa croutons.» My greens were wilted and all soft. The almonds were good though(not rancid), and the quinoa croutons were interesting. They are little balls of deep fried seasoned quinoa. They were tasty, but I only got 4 of them, and they were small(like the size of a regular croûton each). I liked the carrot and beet dressings though(the salad comes with 2 separate dressings — which I asked for on the side, both were very creamy and very colourful!) The salmon was nicely seasoned and cooked, but it was incredibly small. My husband had the Swiss Skillet(from their Brunch menu), which was 2 poached eggs, jalapeño and cheese sausage, on rosti potatoes($ 13). It was served in an actual skillet, which was cool, but the portion size was again tiny. I didn’t have any, but my husband said it was really greasy. One of our friends ordered some duck wings to share(6 wings for $ 14). I had one and it was good. The wings are deep fried and then they dry rub it with spices. The wings were spicy and had a Cajun kick to them. However, I don’t feel that each wing was worth over $ 2 each. Everyone else at our table was drinking alcohol and I was not(I just had water). I felt that I received poorer service because I was not drinking. When someone else at the table had a glass that was nearing empty, the server promptly came by and asked if they wanted another drink. I sat there with my water glass empty and was not asked if I would like more water. After coming to our table 3 different times to ask about alcoholic drinks the server finally refilled my water on her fourth visit back to our table. I understand that you are running a business and want to make as much money as possible, but I ordered food, it wasn’t like I didn’t order anything and was just sitting there and drinking water :(The server was otherwise very pleasant though. Décor is nice. It’s new and clean and not unlike other big chain pubs. Washrooms are clean. They have a huge beer selection, so this is the big draw I guess. Foodwise though, I was disappointed. I felt that the food was overpriced for what it is. I feel that I can get comparable food for much less elsewhere or pay the same amount and get much better food elsewhere. If I am going out as a group and the group wants to go here, I will acquiesce, but it is highly doubtful that I would return of my own accord.

Came here to meet up with friends. Great atmosphere! I ordered the Congo(curry and lemongrass) mussels. Delicious, but my friends, my husband and I all believe that is should come with bread instead of fries. One of the main highlights of having mussels is dipping the bread in the sauce. Beer: selection is good. Service is good. Flights are good for assortment. Prices are alright.

I was very surprised that I liked this place, especially since the reviews I read made me think this is ‘just another beer place with average food’. How wrong I was?!! Mr. H and I had a good 5 hour wait till dinner but we needed a snack and a drink, it was hot out there! We got a table at the patio and I really liked the atmosphere of the place. In spite of the reviews the place was packed! Mr. H loved the beer selection, had two that he loved and since I don’t drink beer, I opted for the beer cocktail(love those!). My beer cocktail was amazing! We also shared the Pastrami Flatbread which was so good that I actually wanted to cancel dinner and just eat here. I loved the food so much that I wanted to come back the next day for lunch but we were running late and hence could not. I’m definitely going back to Ottawa and will definitely be coming back to Bier Market. PS: Service is great!

First time in, came here for lunch with a friend! After hearing a little bit about it and viewing their menu online, we decided to try it for a late lunch on a Tuesday afternoon! It was packed when we initially arrived but it cleared out very quickly(about 10 minutes after we sat down). Even though it was no longer busy, our service was terrible! It took a very long time to have someone come to our table to take our drinks orders, a long time to get our drinks. I ordered a beer and my friend ordered a beer-based cocktail that they didn’t have the ingredients for. so she ordered a long island. By the time we were able to order our food, we were about halfway through out allotted lunch break so we were glad that the food didn’t take too long to get! However, my friend found chunks of large and hard plastic in her food that cut her mouth! I was instantly turned off from my meal as well. They ended up comping the cost of her meal which was nice but I just gave them my barely touched food as I didn’t want to risk it. The oysters we ordered were so expensive! We were told they were about $ 10 for a dozen, so we ordered some. NOPE. Turns out they were more than double the price. not impressed! They should know their prices(they list their oyster prices as market price and to ask the server). The manager was pissed off at us when I said I wouldn’t be paying 1.5x the price. Great customer service! I’ll never return!!!

If you’re a beer lover looking for a great patio experience, this is a great option right in the heart of Sparks Street. They have super comfy bright red booths with a good amount of privacy. The beer list is massive — a binder really, with dividers marking the different types of beer they serve. I’m not a beer drinker at all, but I was able to find some things that tickled my fancy. I ordered the Swedish margarita with Fruli, fresh mint and Swedish berries! It was delicious. Both my girlfriends ordered Somersby, and while they do have it on draft, we weren’t able to get a pitcher. Where this place fell flat for me was on the food. Myself and the two ladies I was with all ordered the same thing — the CBA: chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich. The bun was tasty, but the chicken was overcooked and has a very strong coal taste, while the bacon was undercooked(I tried to give it to one of my dining partners since I don’t eat bacon, but even she said it wasn’t cooked well enough). The fries were tasty, but they were flimsy and a bit on the soggy side. They were served in these cute little cups though, and the dishes themselves were served on large pieces of wood which was very cool. Our server was very sweet and patient, and the patio ambience is fantastic, but the food was disappointing. I’d certainly come back for a cocktail though!

A great place to go for a beer, but not the food, food is average to below average. Even the beer is expensive $ 11-$ 12 for a pint in some variteys. Décor is great bit a little noisey. Server was very good. All in all we probably would not go back to eat but go for the beer.

Not as big of a beer selection as I would expect from a place with the peeing guy statue in the entrance. An international symbol of Belgium at the door makes you expect to be blown away by a list of golden, dark, wheat or white selection of beers. Well that doesn’t happen. I can easily name several places with a wider range of the golden liquid. Food is ok. Portions are quite small if you ask me, and the quality is just ok. Big tvs wherever you look, ideal environment to watch any sport. Not my favourite place, but not a bad one either.

The first night I visited here was pretty great. The stage for live music was great, it’s a beautiful venue, it was busy, they have a lot of beer. It was a bit loud, but a great crowd. I ordered a charcuterie board which was pretty mediocre, as was service; nonetheless, I visited a second time. The second time around, I was seated in the dining room area. It was quiet, and very corporate looking. It was then, I clued in that the Bier Market was a chain– indeed, it’s owned by Cara(owners of Harvey’s, Montana’s, Kelsey’s, etc.). The corporate feel was way too obvious the second time around, and I wish I could say it has potential but it doesn’t. I’d revisit here if I were dragged out, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Mmmmm Beer. Bier Markt is the latest beer restaurant/bar in Ottawa, and instead of making their own they focus on having a wide variety of beers. I came with a couple friends and we sat at the bar. The service was excellent adn the beer menus are really easy to understand, including explanations of the various beer styles for the uninitiated. Beer wise I had a really great dark lager from Brazil of all places, as well as an excellent ale from California and a Wheat beer from Ontario. All were excellent. My friends were also impressed with the beers they got from a variety of countries, including Estonia. The prices were fairly reasonable, especially given the selection, my only complaint is that the seemed to be out of quite a few of the beers on the menu. For food, I ordered a wurst board, which consisted of your choice of 3 sausages from«seed to sausage» a local sausage maker as well as 2 traditional German pretzels(the big kind), some cheese, and mustard. It wasn’t cheap, but it was really tasty, all 3 of the sausages I had were excellent and it was more than enough food. My friends had a poutine and a schnitzel that they both liked. Service was good, but could use some improvement, I found that sometimes the bartenders were hard to find when I was thirsty. They were very kind and professional though, so no problems there. If Unilocal could give 4.5 stars i would, but at the price point and the fact that they were out of a lot of beer then I can’t quite give them a 5 star yet, but there is a lot of potential here. Definitely will return.
