I personally love this place. It’s two blocks from my workplace. For me, it’s the most accessible record store that sells new lps(unlike the CD Warehouse outlet that’s much closer to where I live but only sells used). I could go in Compact and spend more than $ 100 each time but I usually keep it at $ 95. :) They have a great selection of new lps that I’ve only seen at Vertigo. But Vertigo doesn’t seem to have as much of what I’m looking for. For instance: I’m a big fan of Grant Green. I collect his records. I’ve had to buy many online from Europe because they aren’t usually available in Ottawa, or Canada. But today, I went into Compact and found three wrapped albums that I hadn’t purchased yet. And that, mesdames et messieurs, is why I keep going there.

This is a store where I have whiled away many hours through the years. It is easy to find(next to the Royal Oak pub on a busy stretch of Bank Street). The owner is knowledgeable about music, and will order any item, CD or DVD, that is not in stock. There are plenty of LP’s too.
