Very disappointed. Quality of food was really bad. Waited for 2 hours for my food. There was only one waitress. This place could be better.

I went on a Wednesday at around 5:30pm. There were few customers. We had fried calamari, which was pretty good. Not particularly crispy, but we ate all of it. For an entrée I got the fried chicken, and it was pretty terrible, overcooked. The chicken was dry and rubbery. I adore fried chicken, and was hungry, but could not finish it. It came with cole slaw, which tasted just like chopped cabbage in mayonnaise. I only had the smallest bite. The jalapeño corn bread, on the other hand, was amazing, perhaps the best corn bread I’ve ever had. So I think we can call this«uneven.» My friend had the burger and said it was good. The server never asked us how the meal was.

Bad experience. Had two cocktails, one was without alcohol and the second wasn’t good. The service was really bad, when we had to wave to get the bartender’s attention. Also, we ordered the cheese cake, which came after 20 min with bad whipped cream

While walking through Byward Market, we stopped by Fat Tuesday’s for their Buck-a-Shuck oysters. Although it was a quiet evening, the restaurant had a fun and funky vibe. We were seated promptly in a booth proximal to the entrance. We ordered a few dozen PEI Malpeque oysters, which were fresh, sweet, and flavourful. While the service was a bit disappointing(especially since it was not busy), the oysters were good and at a good value. Verdict: Worth popping in for a few oysters.

The food off the chain … Poor boy sandwich was great. I was here on off night but staff was very friendly

Decent food. Was hoping for larger chunks of the alligator but tasty(especially when deep fried) nonetheless. Tried the blackened whitefish with peach salsa. Fish was good, veg and mashed potatoes were really good but… who makes a peach salsa using canned peaches?!

Beers were okay(they have local beers from a microbrewery). The price was okay too. We came to see the palm reader and left the place before they started charging cover to see a pianist perform. At that point, the music wasn’t too exciting so we decided not to stick. I have to admit that the most exciting part was the palm reader… We were all puzzled on how well she described our personality! Otherwise, the place had a good vibe and interesting décor.

We had so much fun. Great live music and the food was top notch. Over all the atmosphere was fun, lively and friendly. Highly recommend

This was just a quick stop while waiting for a hockey game — but the patio offered a great view of the Market, and we were excited to eat outside. The service was quick and really friendly. But most of all — the Blackened Chicken Nachos were incredible. I’m going to be making them at home as often as I can, and I just can’t give any higher praise than that.

Great vibe. Wasn’t too busy but staff was very approachable and friendly. Second time here and will definitely come back when I’m in Ottawa. I’ll bounce between here at Heart & Crown!

Place was dead on a Saturday afternoon. Bartender was friendly. Food was fresh and hot. Beer was cold. Felt the menu items were overpriced. Not a wide selection of food options. A few traditional Cajun items on the menu.

A much better experience than last time! Service was friendly and there were not 4 bachelor/bachelorette parties this time, so that was a huge plus! The restaurant was quiet for a Friday evening, but it picked up as the evening went on. Our group probably tried most of the menu, which was good. The pulled pork on the pulled pork nachoes was good, although a bit dry. The calamari, butterfly shrimp, and spinach dip were all good. For mains, the fried chicken was delicious. The chicken was moist and not overcooked. It had been marinated with just the right amount of spicyness. The breading was almost too thick and too much, but it was good. It was served with shoestring fries, cajun ketchup, coarse grain mustard seed, and«clearslaw.» It would have been nice to have a sweet-savoury BBQ sauce selection rather than just ketchup for the chicken. The«clearslaw» was a different(not in a good way) coleslaw; it was basically just shredded cabbage and carrots with what tasted like malt vinegar? Not what I was expecting. There is also STILL confusion about when the music starts. This time we were told it was 7pm. Then 8, then 9, then by about 10pm the music still hadn’t started and we left. Also, alcohol is still quite expensive. In all, a good experience.

Duelling pianos and a tiny dancefloor make for a fun dinner! Food is delicious and the service is great. Thoroughly recommend a Friday night out.

Went with a corporate party(about 25 people). The food was good, but the service was exceptional and the music on Saturdays is a ton of fun. I do wish that they’d move some tables out of the way around the pianos, but overall it’s a fantastic place. We were a very demanding party and had one server who was exceptional. I was very impressed with the service.

Went there for lunch and Eliza was our waitress, she was very friendly and all smiles. It was nice that the menu had options for sharing to help cut down the cost too. Overall a great experience!

I was here last year and had an order of blackened chicken mac and cheese and a tasty drink. I remember it being really good. So when my friend asked if I’d ever been I enthusiastically said«yes! and lets go again, it was really good last time!» I had immediately planned to order the blackened chicken mac and cheese without the chicken. I was disappointed to see they no longer had the mac and cheese, and then the rest of the visit just kind of went downhill from there. They no longer have the blackened chicken mac and cheese, but they do have another mac and cheese described as «white cheddar bechamel, panko bread crumbs, chipotle ketchup». I figured it’d be close enough and so I ordered it, i’m pretty sure it was also the only vegetarian thing on the menu. My friend got the blackened white fish. The mac and cheese sucked. It was not any better than any mac and cheese my mom or I would make, in fact, it was worse. The chipotle ketchup came on the side was the only thing that had flavor, but I don’t really like ketchup so I didn’t even use much of it. Very disappointing. My friend didn’t finish her white fish. Since neither of us finished our entrees, we(stupidly) ordered dessert. We settled for the bananas foster, which was described as bananas seared in a cinnamon rum caramel sauce with vanilla ice cream. Sounds really good eh? It was not. The waitress brought out a dinky piece of banana bread with 4 tiny, nearly translucent pieces of seared bananas on it and a scoop of ice cream. It didn’t mention anywhere that there was banana bread involved, and the bananas foster that I knew of can just be served on its own or over waffles? If I knew it was a over banana bread I wouldn’t have ordered it because it wasn’t good, and I don’t like banana bread. Me and my friend had a few bites and set it aside. The waitress came over and told us that she spoke with her manager and he was willing to take 50% of the dessert off our bill. I quite liked the waitress, she was very friendly and personable, so shes what has made this review 2 stars. However, really? 50% off? It was terrible! Neither of us ate more than 2 bites and we made it clear we were irritated it wasn’t like it was described in the menu. I feel like they could have afforded to take 100% of the dessert off of our bill because our food was wicked expensive. Mine came to $ 26 before tip, and all I had was the mac and cheese and a pepsi, oh and 50% of a bananas foster.

O.M.G. Jambalaya. I asked for it to be as spicy as possible(as I do) and they really did it up right. The Cajun flavours I just tasted here haven’t been in my mouth since cajun strips at The Sirloiner in Richmond, BC when I was 15 and worked there and had to convince the cooks to hurt me to get to the level of spice I require. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Down-side:(Off-menu though) chicken fingers were obviously frozen(perfectly formed shape) One more up-side: Fries are skinny and crispy and have a slight spice shaken on. so good. Will definitely be back before we leave town.

I headed over to Fat Tuesday’s for their Buck-a-Shuck Thursdays, with $ 1 oysters. The weekly event starts at 5pm, so it’s perfect to stop by after work. As an oyster lover myself, the fact that they’re only a dollar sold me right away. A friend came with me who had never had oysters before, so this was perfect — rather than pay the regular boat load for a plate of oysters, anyone can have just a taste for a buck or two. Our server was perfect — timely, great at making suggestions, and when we asked for a Diet Coke as soon as possible, he was there. right away. My friend is diabetic and felt her blood sugar starting to drop, so the fact that he brought it as soon as we asked was particularly key in this situation. We found the drink menu pretty interesting, so we ordered some Ragin Cajun Caesars, Colonel Bourbon, and Louisiana Lemonade. The caesars were pretty much the standard, with the spicy addition of habanero and sweet pickle juice instead of regular. Quite tasty, but I must admit, I was hoping to get a spicy pickled bean, or even just a celery stick or green olive, but all I got was lime. The Colonel Bourbon had bourbon, Southern Comfort, peach and lime juice, and simple syrup. It was stronger than I had expected(I thought it would just taste like peach juice), but not in a bad way. The Louisiana Lemonade was probably my favorite. It had muddled cilantro and limes, Honey Jack Bourbon, vodka, lime juice, simple syrup, and ginger beer. Sounds tasty, doesn’t it? Well it sure was! I could have probably drank quite a few of those babies if they didn’t cost me 9 bucks a pop. I ordered the gator as an appetizer, and after awhile, it finally came. but wait, it wasn’t the gator afterall! I should have known this right away — it was definitely seafood dip and not gator. I didn’t really ask questions when it came to the table, so I took a dip and got a scallop, so that pretty much confirmed my suspicion. There wasn’t anything special about it, and, quite frankly, I found the $ 13 price attached to it pretty steep for barely a handful of pieces of gator. I won’t go on and on about the nachos, because I was seriously disappointed with both taste and amount of so-called blackened chicken. I’ve had blackened chicken in the past, and lemme tell ya, it is spicy — and, unfortunately, this was not it. All of the cheese was only on the top and pretty much just plain nachos below, so the $ 15 price on this one was also too high in my opinion. Last but not least, the oysters! A few pieces of the shell were shucked into the oyster, so watch out for that. Personally, I like them with the plain old Tabasco and/or lemon. They give you three different sauces, which are more like salsa types. They weren’t bad, though one of them tasted like a strangely savoury potpourri. Can’t tell you which one though — they weren’t on the menu or anything. Overall, great experience. I’d like to see the duelling pianos, since I never have, so I’m sure that would be a ton of fun. Service was great, drinks were awesome, but be prepared to spend some dough. It’s not that the items are very expensive on their own, but because we found the portions a bit small for the price, we ordered more items than we prepared for, so we ended up spending more than we had planned.

New Orleans experience it’s not, but a fun night can be had here. Skip the food, it really sucks and is far from a NO experience. I’ve only tried 2 items here and one was unmemorable and the other I remembered… as being extremely terrible and a slop of a mess. The drinks are solid and the live band can be fun. When the summer is around the patio can be rocking however the staff aren’t always the best but again that’s seasonal. The crowd can be slightly older and when it’s busy the staff can have problems.
