The Firkin and Knight was good food but bad service. That said, it’s not that our waitress was rude or incompetent, it was quite the opposite actually she was quite good considering management had only one other waitress on staff for a Saturday night. Not our waitresses fault and she moved quickly and tried hard to keep up, but seriously what is the management thinking. I felt bad for the two gals on shift, they were run off their feet. The food was really good, no complaints. Nacho appetizer was very good and fully loaded. My beef dip sandwich was totally yummy and I’d have again. They had a good selection of beer on tap. The restaurant had a good set up and the booths were comfortable and private. I might go here again but would be reluctant just because of the service issue. There are a lot of pubs in ottawa so Firkin needs to raise its game if it wants to see customers return.

We have been here a few times. It is the only place we’ve found Spitfire on tap! After living in England and coming back it is hard to find a place that has something other than the usual import offerings. It’s been the same bartender each time we went and she was always friendly and helpful. We ordered one of the«specials» on St. Patrick’s Day, these Guinness beef sliders with onion and bacon. They were awesome! Tried the deep fried pickles also and was pleased with the product. Tried breakfast with some family from out of town. It was done well and they had the standard breakfast, as well as eggs benny, omelettes, etc. It was a good breakfast — not the best I’ve ever had, but good for a pub and what we paid. We will be back.

Excellent service from the bartender since the place was pretty dead. Ordered the braised beef poutine which was quite delicious. Tad on the salty side, but that’s always expected. Would like to check it out again, see how the other items on the menu are. A few things caught my eye that I’ll be back to try.

Went for dinner with my curling team after our curling game last night. We were hoping to watch the curling«Road to the Roar» finals on one of the 6TV’s in the section we were seated in. Four of the TV’s were showing the Leafs game, two were showing UFC. The restaurant was empty except for us and two couples. The two couples were not watching the TV’s. We asked the waitress(over the course of the hour and a half that we were there) three times if *one* of the TV’s could be changed to curling. She told us that she had asked the bartender to change the channel on the TV nearest us, but basically indicated that he wasn’t in a hurry to do it for us. This despite the fact that we were the only ones in the restaurant who were interested in watching the TV’s. The TV never got changed so we missed the game. The food itself was pretty bland. My fried chicken sandwich was over cooked. None of us were all that thrilled with our meals. The waitress was friendly and attentive, despite her inability to get the bartender to switch the channel on one of the TV’s. She was apologetic about the bartender’s attitude.

I have been wanting to check out the Firkin and Knight since it opened in my neighborhood. Tonight I finally had an opportunity to do so. Ordered nachos and deep fried pickles. They were both OK. For the nachos being $ 16.00, I thought they were overpriced. It was just cheese baked on chips with diced green onion, tomato and jalapeño on top. Salsa was served on the side along with sour cream and guacamole, which was decent. Straight pub food, that is overly salty, and hits the spot. They seem to have some interesting options, like curry, but I wouldn’t expect much. Service is attentive, patio is alright. Probably wont be back, there are better options.

There’s a better fish and chips at Rideau Centre! And it’s cheaper for the same amount of food! The only good thing I liked about this place was their tartar sauce. Everything else felt fake.

Unfortunately, I cant really think of any positive things to say about this place. To begin with, I wasn’t a fan of the cheap, fake décor that is ‘trying’ to look like a place that has character. I also wasn’t a fan of the limited menu as the choices were just too uninspiring. Finally, and most importantly, I wasn’t a fan of the food which was utterly unremarkable. TIP If you are already in the area, you would be better off to hop on the Queensway for the extra two exits and get off on Pincecrest/Greenbank and go to the Big Rig Grill by the IKEA. So, in the end I would never go back and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Waitress was slow, not overly friendly. Food was waaaay overpriced for the quality, I’m pretty sure it was just microwaved. I expected better for what it cost. Drinks were pricey aswell. I was disappointed as this is nearby where I live.

I’ve never been to this«Loblaws mall» before — never even heard if it! But surely this pub is one of the welcoming and inviting features of it. The pub is clean and bright, and the staff is friendly. They offer plenty of booths of different sizes, and along the wall there are bar stools at tables for two. This is a nice touch as you can sit there and still see what’s going on in the rest of the restaurant without blocking the view. We have time, so each of us ordered a beer(they brew their own — Butler’s Pale Ale), followed by appetizers — slightly spicy vegetable samosas(they do indeed have a reasonable variety of Indian food to offer). Hubby got fish ‘n chips, and I tried«bangers and mash». It was all very good! And the portions were large — 3 sausages on my plate! Also served with lots of mashed potato — I couldn’t eat it all, and baked beans. Very tasty. These sausages were a bit sweet, as far as sausages go, and my husband’s fish was quite good. I really appreciated that the staff is attentive without hovering over you. All in all, this was a great experience, and I would come back.
