Went here on a Sunday a couple weeks ago for brunch with a friend. I’d been to the Glebe location a few times but this was my first time at the Westboro location. Didn’t wait more than a couple minutes for a table. It took a really long time to get our water and coffee, although it didn’t seem that busy. I had the Mtl Benedict and my friend had the kale Benedict. Our eggs were well cooked and the hollandaise sauce was good. My potatoes were a little salty but there was a decent serving size. Service was really slow throughout our visit. After receiving our food, which took about 20 minutes, the server never returned to see how we were doing or if we needed anything else. We literally had to wave her down as she walked past our table to get more coffee, and by that point we were done eating. Overall, good value but not great service. It looked like they had a decent beer list so may go back for that.

My darling and I felt like some fish and chips so we went to the corner bar and Grill in our neighborhood. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. The french fries tasted like they had been deep-fried at least four or five times and probably belong in the garbage. And the fish was definitely not fresh. But worst of all was the coleslaw neither me or my partner could handle more than a little nibble. The service wasn’t great either. Suffice it to say we’re not going back.

Had the nachos for lunch and added a couple of specialty drinks. Both were very good and service was friendly. Atmosphere was modern and the place was very clean. I would go back.

We came in on a Monday night. Great beer selection. Pink fuzz was refreshing. My partner had the fish and chips and raved about it! It was fresh and perfectly cooked I had the burger and it was one of the worst ever. Toppings were great. But the burger was well well well well done. Dry and crunchy. Seriously bad.

Popped in for brunch last weekend with some friends and a baby! Sunday brunch — we were expecting a line, but we were seated right away. The server took our drink order(3 coffees, 2 waters, 1 gingerale, 1 orange juice) and forgot 2 of them upon delivery. Boyfriend had the breakfast special and ate every last piece, I had the Eggs Benedict, my eggs were overcooked(i asked for poached medium, they were solid.) and although the hash browns were quite good, there was only a handful of them on each of our plates. Our server seemed a little off of her game that day, forgot some drinks, some sides, and was quite slow. But, she didn’t charge for the side of hollandaise sauce or drinks, so I can’t be too upset.

I went here for dinner tonight with my husband and a friend of ours. This was probably my 6th or 7th time here. After my visit, I was thinking I have to go and update my review from 3 stars to 4 stars because the place has really improved since they first opened, but then I saw that I’ve never actually reviewed this place. Anyway, it used to be 3 star material, but now it is 4 star stuff! I had the California Burger($ 13), my husband had the full rack of ribs($ 23), and our friend wasn’t that hungry so he just had a French Onion soup($ 6). I had an Amaretto soda($ 5.35) and my husband and our friend had some beers(around $ 6 each). My California Burger was awesome. It comes on a plain bun that’s a little denser than most buns(which I like because it keeps the burger from falling apart). It had guacamole, grilled peppers and bacon on it. The burger was huge and the angus beef patty was full of flavour and well done. I used to love the Churchill Burger down the street at Churchills, but the California Burger here is neck-to-neck now. The burgers come with fries, salad or soup. You can upgrade to sweet potato fries, poutine or Caesar salad for an additional $ 1.99. I asked for half fries and half salad, and they said that would be an additional $ 1 charge(that made it $ 14 total, so still cheaper than the Churchill Burger at $ 15 that doesn’t charge you extra for half salad half fries). I really don’t understand why they would charge you $ 1 extra, because you get less fries than you would if you just got fries, and you get less salad than you would if you just ordered salad, so it’s really just a wash, but I digress. Anyway, the fries were awesome. They are battered and regular-sized. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The salad is so amazing(it’s much improved since my last visit). It is an arugula salad with cherry tomatoes sliced in half, and sliced cucumbers with crispy things sprinkled on top(at first I thought it was fried onion bits, but then I thought it was julienne tortilla chips, I’m still not sure). The dressing which I asked for on the side and came on the side as requested was a cracked-pepper and lemon dressing that was nice and light. My husband’s rack of ribs was huge. I had a taste and it was so tender and fall-off-the-bone. It came with a rainbow coloured slaw and some roasted potatoes(neither of which I tried). He liked his meal. Our friend really liked his French Onion Soup. It was served in the traditional French Onion Soup ceramic container and was piping hot. Looked like it had a lot of cheese on top. This place has really improved since it opened and even over the last few months. The food is much tastier. So if you’ve been here before and thought the food was ok but unremarkable, you should give it another try. The only thing is their specials are not as great now. You used to be able to get a burger and a pint for like $ 12 on certain days of the week, now the«burger special»(on Tuesdays and Thursdays) is buy a pint at regular price and get a burger for $ 10. So more expensive than the previous deal. My Amaretto soda was good. Stronger than they make it at Clocktower(although at Clocktower it’s only $ 4.50). Anyway, I like it here more. Of the Westboro pubs, in terms of food, I now would rank Corner Bar and Grill to be tied with Churchills(I feel that Corner Bar and Grill is more casual and neighbourhood pub-like while Churchills is a bit more froufrou and gastropub wannabe and also more expensive), then Whispers and coming up the rear is Clocktower Pub. I’m not a beer drinker, so I’m disregarding the beer selection and all that.

Yum! I’m on a quest for the best breaky in Westboro and so far the Corner’s Huevos Rancheros is near the top of my list. Delicious! My friend ordered an omelette and that looked good too. The service was great and the place wasn’t packed for a Sunday morning at 1030/11, so we were seated right away and served quickly. I am excited to go back!

I had the sliders. Appetizer. They were burned on the outside, dry as hell on the inside. bbq sauce was nice, and onions were nice. Not worth my money or time.

Was visiting from Toronto, and came here with a friend for brunch(the day after we hit Baker Street Café). This location was nice and spacious, and we didn’t wait long for seating at all. I ordered the Smoked Salmon omelette(smoked salmon, lox, mozzarella, with green and red onions), while my friend had the Bacon & Cheddar(sans tomatoes). I sampled hers and liked it a lot. But I really loved mine — so nice and savoury!(If you like salty stuff, you might be okay with this. The wait staff provided decent service, too. When one of the servers came by our table and asked my friend if she wanted coffee, she actually whooped when my friend said yes.(Was that the remnants of St. Patrick’s Day, or was she really happy to see us?) And when we got our bills, my friend noticed that her coffee wasn’t listed. When she alerted our server to this, she(the server) told her not to worry about it. Talk about easy-going. Perhaps I’m not the best person to say, since I don’t live in Westboro(or Ottawa) at the moment. But I think this Corner location might be well on its way to providing the neighbourhood atmosphere they’re going for. Not too shabby.
