My boyfriend and I were searching for the perfect vegan cupcake. We had already tried Auntie Loo’s and were hugely disappointed with the food, the service, and the shop itself(it was truly disgusting). Thimblecakes is absolutely adorable, the girl who served me was lovely, and the cupcakes are phenomenal. This place is great!

Amazing amazing Amazing amazing And vegan! This place is a cute little café inspired vegan bakery, ive tried some that are a hit or miss because how vegan icing is made is awfully sweet, but none the less you can pig out and not feel guilty that youre contributing to the murdered animals! And im all for that And the apple tarts SOOOGOOD

This place is adorable, popular, and has great service. I just wasn’t wowed by the quality of the cupcakes, unfortunately. They’re quite crumbly. I ordered a cookie dough cupcake(last one of the day, because it’s a big seller) and I don’t think it tasted like cookie dough at all. Cinnamon cookies, maybe. Generous with the chocolate chunks, though. What I do like is that they reduce waste. They sell cupcakes that are a little messy at a discount and call them«Ugly Ducklings.» You can also buy discounted day old cupcakes as well. I will consider going back to try another flavour, and/or to check out the(expensive!) ice cream.

As a follower of a plant-based, gluten-free diet, I am so pleased to live on a street with a health food store, a vegan bakery and a yoga studio all on the same block. The pumpkin scone is definitely something to try here. I recommend skipping the coffee drinks though; they are small, waaaay too sweet and very expensive. Get your pastry here and cross the street to Bridgehead for coffee. I have yet to try their vegan ice cream, but it sounds pretty good in the hot summer months!

Decent cupcakes! The texture I found a little dry — but overall good cupcake. Service was great, shop is beautiful and I will be back :) FYI — the coconut ice cream is to die for! :)

Great cakes, but geez GREEDY! I wanted to borrow or purchase one of their edible pen/markers to draw a cartoon at home since they do not write any messages on their actual cakes. I asked if I could buy a used one since they only sell a $ 14.75 pack of 5 and I didn’t really need that many. Girl that’s there all the time said ok to used one after searching her drawer for the oldest one… for $ 4! Really??? I asked her why so much for a used one and she said«we need to add a mark up for selling it individually»… I’ve bought over 10 cakes from in the last 6 months(that’s over $ 600!!!). Reply: Hi Jessica, thank you for taking the time to reply. The pen I was offered to buy was VERY used and was not black or blue, it was GREEN so your response just confirmed my original post. I run my own businesses too and love supporting local businesses, however this experience I had with your store was not about you breaking even, but rather taking advantage.

Thimblecakes is a really nice place to get cupcakes! I love their mini cupcakes, and a lot of the flavours are fantastic. I particularly love the chocolate chip cookie dough mini cupcake, the combination of flavour and textures in it are weirdly accurate for a cookie dough impression. 4 instead of 5 stars because some of the flavours I’ve had were less good(particularly the chocolate — the icing is great, but the cake seems to be lacking to me) but still on the good side of the spectrum as far as cake goes!

I’ve been to Thimble cakes different locations over the last few years and always thought it was good to ok. I stopped by this location on back a few weeks ago to look at cakes for my wedding. Now I was told that I would have to book a consultation for any custom cake and couldn’t even get a ball park range of price from the staff at that time. I booked an appt 2 months later! That was the first saturday appt they had and they only do appt 2 – 3 days a week and during the daytime which doesn’t work for most people who work. So I left disappointed that I couldn’t look at examples or get a price on a cake. I ended up grabbing 2 gluten free cupcakes to go. It was over $ 8!!! Wow, that was really pricey. Was it worth it? No. The banana cupcake tasted like fake banana flavoring and the chocolate cupcake was bland with over sweetened icing. I can’t see how I could pick this place to make my wedding cake as their cupcakes are really good. The only item I recommend is the pumpkin scones, which are a little dry but the flavor is good.

I ordered mini-cupcakes thinking they were just smaller cupcakes, half the size of a regular cupcake maybe… I was very surprised when I saw what I ordered. for the price, they were the tiniest cupcakes I have ever seen. 1 bite and you are done. They should be called MICRO-cupcakes as ‘mini’ is misleading. Then I actually tasted them: the cupcake was good, pretty generic. The chocolate icing was also good. The signature vanilla icing could have been so much better. I really doubt the icing is made in house. Tastes store bought. I am thoroughly disappointed in this place. Never again. :o(

I’m still thinking about their cupcakes all these weeks after my visit in Ottawa! Vegan cupcakes, vegan/healthy ice creams, the variety of desserts they can offer in their shop is simply amazing. I really love the original cupcakes I brought back home: lemon, dark chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, salty caramel… those cupcakes’ flavors weren’t shadowed by too much sugar. It was simply perfect! Next time I’m in Ottawa, I HAVE to stop there! It’s a must!

My son told us about this bakery and he wanted a birthday cake from here. He wanted the Mexican chocolate cake with cinnamon and hot pepper. We needed the cake to be gluten egg and dairy free. To be honest I was a little concerned about how this cake would turn out, and to my surprise the cake was actually very good. So all in all a very good experience I would definitely go back.

We bought four for desserts. It really doesn’t taste that good. The tiramisu ones don’t taste like tiramisu. It’s not even as good as the loblaws ones. The cupcake lounge in the market is much more fresh and better.

I don’t have a sweet tooth but they were one of the vendors set up at the Unilocal event last night and decided to give them a try… so glad I did! The chai and banana caramel mini cupcakes are AMAZING and the perfect size :)

They say they are allergy friendly, but put Earth Balance in everything, which is soy, and not allergy friendly. I am not allergic to soy, so I ate one, and it wasn’t even good. Withing minutes I was sick with shooting pains in my bones. Also, it was 5 $ for one cupcake. I will not eat there again.

I don’t eat eggs or dairy, so the vegan cupcakes are perfect for me. They are also really good and no one can tell they’re vegan! Love all the gluten free options as well!

We ordered our wedding cake here. But they made a few mistakes. I emailed them with very clear instructions on some details since what we want is just very similar to one of the picture they have in their album. First, our name was totally wrong. Second, the height of the cake is too high but I did mention I want it lower than in the picture. Third, the color of the cake is not what they told me it will be. Instead of light pink, it’s all ivory… The flower is not what I said to be started from the bottom(they only made it on the top)… I mean, if they can’t do it, they can call me to clarify. Very disappointed when we first see it. And the cake doesn’t taste good at all. But they are still friendly people and at least they change our name quickly, so we gave one star.

This spot is really cute, comfy and a bit quirky. The couches look comfy and it’s usually pretty quiet in here, so it’s a nice alternative to Bridgehead, if you’d like to support local businesses. There is a wide variety of flavours for all sort of dietary requirements. Additionally, they use coconut milk as a replacement for milk– as a vegetarian, I appreciate the use of non-dairy products. Prices are really reasonable here too. The only fault here, is the service. Employees did not seem particularly interested in being there or they seemed to interested in other tasks, rather than helping me. Overall, I would come back here again, and I would recommend it.

If you have any special dietary needs Thimble Cakes is the cupcake bakery for you. I’ve never been disappointed by their cupcakes in my half dozen visits Thimble Cakes can satisfy a wide variety of dietary restrictions. You’ll find multiple gluten free, vegan and sugar free options(sweetened with agave and xylitol). In addition, the entire place is nut free so if you have a peanut allergy you’re in the clear. The regular cupcakes are a little over $ 3.00 each with discounts if you buy 3, 6 or 12. If you want something smaller they also sell mini cupcakes for .85 that are bite sized. Yesterday’s cupcakes are available for 40% off the normal price. The cupcake flavors change daily and include standards like red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, and more interesting pairings like caramel bacon. When I’m feeling indecisive I like to ask the server what their favorite is and go with that. So far it has been a good way to try new flavors and they’ve all been delicious. The cakes are moist and the frosting is flavorful without being overpoweringly sweet, which is just want I want in a cupcake. In addition to cupcakes they also serve ice cream. I haven’t tried it yet so i can’t comment on the quality but it’s an option if you don’t like cupcakes. The only thing that i don’t like about this place is their nut free philosophy means there is no chance of peanut butter frosted cupcakes, which are my favorite.

So I scored big points treating my wife to a cupcake as a starter for a night on the town. A little lady like my daughter, who has been known to wear boas, tutus and fairy wings would absolutely love the girly dainty vintage presentation here. My wife’s only complaint was that it was hard to find — as in she didn’t see it when we drove by. The easiest way to find it is to look for the huge green Herb & Spice sign. Thimble cakes is right next door. Finding parking can be an issue. Thimble Cakes scored points with the little details at this little shop: — elegant seating — chandeliers — teacups — plated cupcakes with dessert forks We appreciate the little indie shops with gluten free offerings as a staple. My better half wife was impressed with the quality. She was very happy that the GF cupcake wasn’t dense. While it wasn’t necessarily light, she found it to be moist and beautifully presented. I’m surprised that there are so few reviews. We came away thinking Thimble Cakes looks very well put together, and very appealing. Presentation matters, as do the little things.

Thimblecakes is a cupcake shop/café located on Bank street in Centretown. They offer a variety of 6 – 12 cupcakes everyday. There are regular sized cupcakes, which cost about 3 $ and minis for 1 $. What really sets Thimblecakes apart is the fact that they offer dairy free, nut free and vegan cupcakes. Not only does Thimblecakes offer cupcakes for most dietary needs, but their cupcakes actually taste amazing. They’re the best I’ve tasted in Ottawa. I enjoy buying a dozen mini cupcakes and sharing them with friends. Everyone gets a chance to try different cupcake flavors. Thimblecakes can make special order cupcakes and cakes for various occasions. I’ve had the opportunity to try one of their cakes and it was delicious! Thimblecakes offers vegan and non-vegan ice cream. They also make organic coffee and tea. They use Happy Goat coffee, which always produces a delicious cup. Thimblecakes does have limited seating both inside and outside the establishment. If you’re looking to sit in a quiet café and enjoy a delicious treat, try Thimblecakes.
