Bought a loaf of a crusty white bread today and it tasted as good as it looked. Was impressed by Andrew who served me. He was cheerful and certainly represented the company well, as a matter of fact I thought he was the owner. He’s a keeper. Will try another type of loaf next time.

This place is a fantastic find in my new ‘hood! I have driven by it several times, always meaning to pop in, but today I actually had an excuse — we needed hamburger buns! From the minute I walked in, I was immediately engulfed by an amazing smell that wasn’t JUST regular bread. Yes, the aroma of freshly baked dough was in the air, but so was something different — almond and orange, and other beautiful things. There was a fresh baguette to sample on the counter and it was superbe. Something with cheese and garlic and spices. It was a bit bitter(in a good way!), and I regret not walking out with the whole basket. I asked the wonderful staff member what she would recommend for burgers, and she pointed to their square buns, which were dense, but super fluffy on the inside. I also grabbed a cranberry bun to sample, and OH man, that was my favourite by far. White khorasan flour, cranberry, candied lemon peel, honey and poppyseed. DELICIOUS. Again, like their other breads, they have a crispy outside, and a chewy soft inside. I loved that this one had candied lemon peel and cranberry throughout. They stock certain things daily(the square buns, baguette, date and fennel bread, sourdough multigrain, etc, but they also have different speciality breads daily, so I would be sure to check out their website. As mentioned, they send their unsold stock over to Red Apron after 1 p.m. which is conveniently right across the street.

Beautiful, beautiful bread — creative and superbly traditional. Bread you can eat alone, or slathered with unsweetened butter, this place is just fantastic.

Best bread bakery in Ottawa. None other can compare. Try their baguettes: crisp light crust, a tender honey-combed crumb with outstanding flavour. Try their Oversized Miche: this is true old country bread, with a mlld tang, full roasted grain taste and sturdy chewy crust. THISISBREAD! From the smiling laid back service to the high level of quality breads they produce. There is no bakery in Ottawa with such excellent quality, all others are dilettantes and fakes, especially that fuck brain Kevin at Art Is In. True Loaf Bread Company is authentic, original and miles above and beyond the rest of the pack.

The bread here is FANTASTIC! They have tons of different loaves and baguettes. The breads are made fresh daily. The store closes really early, but you can go to Red Apron next door to buy whatever is left over. They have all kinds of breads with really great ingredients, including sunflower seeds, flax, almonds, caramelized onions, and chocolate. The loaves are large and the average price is about $ 3 – 5. My boyfriend is quite the picky eater, so I didn’t want to get anything too fancy. I bought a large loaf of roasted garlic and rosemary bread for $ 3 even. The outside was very crusty, while the inside was soft and airy. There was rosemary all throughout, and even small chunks of roasted garlic inside. Generally, the bread was a bit salty and bitter, but that’s exactly what I was looking for — perfect with butter!

EXCELLENTBREAD. The best in Ottawa? Probably. Easily in the top 3. It is my favourite, that is for sure. I’ve tried a few different breads that they make, and they were all great. Someone I know described the bread as a little too«European» for them. «EXACTLY!!! THAT’S WHAT I AMAFTER!!!» I thought. I did however, shake my head disapprovingly knowing that this person just didn’t get it! Hours are 7am-1pm(It’s a 2 person operation right now) HOWEVER after 2pm anything that hasn’t been sold for the day goes on sale next door at The Red Apron, and there’s usually an O.K. selection. Bonus: on saturdays they make egg-bread. To understand great bread, you need to have great bread. So get out and get educated at True Loaf.
