I’m giving this one star because it was terrible place to go. My boyfriend and I were looking for a breakfast place and saw Nate’s, we decided to try it out. When we walked in the waitress said take a seat, but we were not sure if she meant at the front door seat or go find a seat in the dining area… So we decided to go sit in the dining area, she came back quickly gave us our menu’s and ask our drink orders then left again. While waiting for her to come back my boyfriend and I looked at the menu noticed that the prices were super high. it is $ 2.00 for two pieces of bacon let alone a side of fruit was $ 6.99!!! When she brought us our drinks we noticed that my boyfriends orange juice had a bug in it. After that we didn’t want to stay so we told the waitress and showed her the bug in it and she said«Oh…». didn’t offer to even get a new one. We left pretty quickly and will never go back. Oh and it was weird because there was no music playing and didn’t look like they fixed up the place at all. Its basically a dump of a restaurant. So no don’t go to this place.

I want to like this place, because I love little diners, but I did not like this place at all. 2 stars only because my man did. Service — Our waiter was rude. He did not seem happy, he didn’t seem to care. He was busy and his attitude let it be known. When we asked for our bill after our food had been finished for 10 minutes he loudly said«give me a minute» uh okay. However, the man at the cash was such a sweet pleasant person, I wish he would have been our server Food: the menu is 85% smoked meat dishes, had I known this I would not have came, I do not like smoked meat. I had a blt with onion rings. Rings were good, didn’t like my blt at all. SOBORING I don’t know what I was expecting but I was expecting more. Way too much tomato, barely any bacon and no mayo no nothing. My man had the chicken wrap and fries. He loved his wrap but thought there were way too many onions and peppers Décor– outdated and cute, pretty much what you would expect. Price– decent

The new location of Nate’s has had its as and downs. Quality definitely suffered when it looks first opened. However, since Jack(the owner of the original location) has to returned work the deli the quality and atmosphere has been returning back to what it was on Rideau. Many of the customers are those who loved the original place, and while the menu has changed, it’s not uncommon for them to accommodate an off menu order from the old days(like the international big bowl special) The Lantzman special is a grate plate with a taste of various deli favourites.

Was excited to go to Nate’s even though the reviews here weren’t great. Well… I’d never go back. Told the waitress I was in a hurry. I ordered a small plate if smoked meat And a root beer. The drink came in seconds but after 20 minutes of waiting for someone to put some meat on a plate, I gave up, paid the $ 2 for the root beer and went across the street to European Deli where I got what I ordered in about 45 seconds and it was great! Went to my dentists office told everyone there about my Poor experience and was told that a similar thing happened to another patient. Moral of the story– unless you want to wait Go somewhere else

House Platter may be the only item of good value. Grilled Salmon Salad was pathetic and way overpriced at $ 14.59. Salad was basic and salmon was microwaved(i.e., not grilled) from frozen and arrived cold. Had to send it back to we warmed and then ended up not eating it as it was so dense.

I was actually pretty dissapointed when I went to Nate’s for breakfast, not because the food wasn’t good, or the service, but rather the cost of the breakfast. After moving into the area, I was looking for a place to call my breakfast spot. My breakfast(eggs bennedict and coffee) came to almost 20 $. I’ve been able to get breakfast for two for almost that price… It looks like my hunt for my breakfast spot will continue.

I wish I could give Nate’s four stars, I really do, but Schwartz’s in Montréal has spoiled it for everybody else.(And does anybody remember the Kardish Deli in Mechanicsville? Wow!) The good things about Nate’s first. Prices are very good. Service is excellent and quick. Lots of retro extras like sour dill pickles, and soft drinks served in cans with little juice glasses on the side. We had a sampler plate with smoked meat, pastrami and chopped liver on rye and also the matzoh ball soup. Everything was good enough but none of the main meats knocked me out. Both the pastrami and and smoked meat were a little dry. The second thing that knocks off a star is that it looks like Nate’s has been in this location for decades — faded posters, restrooms that could use a coat of paint — but they haven’t. They took over from Cora’s breakfast place a couple of years ago. Apparently, just moved in all their old stuff from their downtown location without giving old Cora’s much of a facelift. Now, Nate’s take-out service and their desserts both looked terrific. I didn’t try them but if I do, I may want to stop being so stingy with the stars.

It’s BAAACK! Nates was an Ottawa landmark for decades in their old home on Rideau before closing down almost a decade ago. After a brief(and boring) incarnation as a Cora’s breakfast joint, this Merivale rd location reminds me of the old Nates in many ways. The menu is back, the spectacular deli food, quick and character laden service, it ain’t and never will be five star Michelin rated haute cuisine, but for a fantastic nosh and a nostalgic reminder of why smoked meat should be on the Canada food guide, take a trip to Nates Es Eppes.

Second time visiting Nates, and the smoked meat is still delicious! Food arrived hot, meat could barely stay between the bread, and the pickles are lip puckering good! The service, and atmosphere is average, but the food is what keeps me coming back.

Quick. Hurry up and eat there before this Ottawa institution closes. A traditional Jewish deli, with one of the best bargain breakfasts in town — and one that serves fried salami as a breakfast meat side. The take home take out specials are outstanding, especially for smoked meat fans like me. Unfortunately, the scheduled closing of Nate’s in spring 2009 means countless residents, tourists and other visitors will be denied the delights of a one of Ottawa’s only borscht-belt era delis.

My wife and I have been searching the city for the best breakfast in town. This search brought us to Nate’s on Rideau. It was kind of an accident — the sign says deli and we just happened to check out the menu in the window to discover they served food — especially a greasy spoon breakfast. Nate’s really is two places in one: a take-out deli with meats, cheeses, breads, crackers/pickles, etc. But, there is a dining area to the side where you can enjoy deli delights(smoked meat sandwiches!!!) fresh. The décor is pure diner — vinyl booths, et. al. The service is friendly and prompt and the food(especially the smoked meat) is delish. The breakfast was okay. So, the search continues…
