What a great little place to shop for groceries that you would not find anywhere else. I have had the joy of visiting Holland and the food there was fantastic especially the breakfast– incidentally my favorite meal of the day. I was so happy to see some of the brands I remember from my trip, the selection of cheese and other dairy products is why I come back. I love dairy products and the Dutch do them so well! Of course they also have all the traditional items that a grocery store has like fruits and veggies, non-perishables, juices, cereals. The people here are so nice and courteous, someone always say«hi» when I am in here. I really like the feel of the friendly neighbourhood store they have created for themselves. I highly recommend this place, I am sure you will find something you like really like.

As the grand-daughter of Dutch immigrants to Canada, I LOVE this store and I love the fact that there is a store like this in the city(Ottawa has many Dutch immigrant families(and their descendants)). This store gets SUPER busy around Christmas… It seems that everyone is wanting marzipan, chocolate letters, and Kruidnoten! I go in every so often for Dutch salty licorice, hagelslag, and other various Dutch grocery items that you cannot find in regular grocery stores. It is the store to visit if you’re looking for Dutch cheeses and deli meats! The staff are always very friendly and are always smiling!

Great little Dutch store that has actual Dutch people working there *gasp*, unlike the ones in BC(The pricing is also MUCH better than the BC ones). They have kroketten & bitterballen, but don’t buy the ones they have in store because those are prefried & thus tough/bland. The lady at the register told me that if you want the non-prefried ones you have to call them 3 weeks in advance(You will have to buy a whole box, but I don’t mind that one bit) and they will order them especially for you, FANCYPANTS. It’s a very SPECIFIC store, Dutch & Dutch alone, so don’t go here expecting Polish/Spanish/Italian/whatever. I’m happy I got to speak Dutch, the people that work there are super nice, and I got to go home with a ton of my Dutchie goodies I have to miss here in Montréal(We need a Dutch store here people!). Mmmmm hamkaas!

Interesting and fun, this store takes its touch of Dutch seriously, with a robust cheese and deli counter and a wide array of Nederland treats, sundries and other household items. Also a great place if you are a soccer fan looking for team merchandise. Friendly and accessible, it’s a place always worth a looksie and buy-ie.

A crowded shop filled with people buying hundreds of dollars of Dutch stuff. And all I wanted was some lunch. Actually I wanted to try a paard(smoked horse meat) sandwich, but it turns out they don’t sell that any more(it’s still on the sign behind the deli counter). I tried a liverloaf sandwich instead, to try something new(not bad, but I didn’t especially care for it) and had to wait in line for about 10 minutes while the two friendly ladies up front rang up everything by hand. I also got a range of licorice candies from bins and some chocolate to snack on, but I felt out of place not buying baskets full of stuff like everyone else. Hey, I’m just a tourist! Nice enough place, probably just right if you’re craving something Dutch, but if you just want to try a paard sandwich, it’s probably not the place for you.

I have recently acquired a taste for sausages and smoked meats. When I was growing up, my mom cooked very plain meals(boiled meat?) and I developed a bland palate. But, living overseas cured me of that. I love spicey and tasty foods and sausages and smoked meats in particular. So, I am always on the lookout for delis or butcher shops. I found Dutch Groceries one day while out doing errands. I popped in and was delighted to find myself transplanted to a European deli(but mostly Dutch stuff). They had pickles, spreads(apple or pear spreads!), cheeses, crackers, and all sorts of other Euro treats. I found a chocolate brand called Negro — the second place in Ottawa that a) sells such a thing and b) is unaware of how offensive it potentially is! Anyhow, the deli section was well stocked with huge sausages and aromatic meats. Mmmm! The store also has refrigerators stocked with Dutch baked goods(tarts, cookies and something called Boterkoek??). Dutch Groceries also sells Dutch souvenirs(keychains, picture frames) if you want to pretend you’ve been to Holland.
