We had a great experience dining at the Albion Rooms and enjoyed the variety of the menu. Our server Erin was wonderful, very attentive and knowledgeable about the local area. We also loved the design of the place. The food overall was excellent and they have a great beer/wine selection. We started with a cheese board which came with several accompaniments as well as the cauliflower and carrot soup. Both tasted great! For main course I had the elk burger and my wife had the fish and chips. The burger was juicy and full of flavor. The fish and chips were decent, but a little heavy with breading and the chips were average. Some people like more breading so I suppose it’s really a personal preference thing. We would have given 5 star but for the fish and chips. This is a great spot for a drink, snack or full meal and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Ottawa.

We went for appetizers and loved it. We got the cheese and meat plater with the smoked duck(recommended from or waiter), it was awesome. First time that I ever tried scotch eggs and I will tell you I will definitely get them again.

Love this place — helps that the staff are exceptionally awesome and personable. They offer locally sourced products, a gourmands experience and a price that most people can afford. Love the elk burger and fries! The charcuterie boards are impressive, Jace does an amazing job at dressing up the wood slabs and is always patient explaining to patrons what he’s doing. Steph the bartender is so personable and could probably spark up a conversation with anyone. Erin/Corey/Sarah/Nevin/Michael/John — and the rest are an amazing team that delivers spot on service, providing quality product at a reasonable price in an environment that would beg for a suit/tie scenario but is very much a come as you are atmosphere. Highly recommend their take on a Caesar… actually any of their cocktails… they make a lot of in house nuances to their liquor(dill spiced vodka). They have a dining room but recommend the lounge side the most… more to see, more interaction, and it’s the same menu.

It is the little things that makes or breaks the hotel. And in this case, it broke it. Pros: Reception desk very friendly. Bar and restaurant looks nice at first view. First glance at room is a nice one. Rooms have recycling bins. Walk-in shower looks nice. Quiet environment. Slept well. Cons: Parking lot has very tight spaces(not hotel’s fault). Bars in elevators were sticky. No minibar(although mentioned in room’s booklet). No food available 24 hours(although mentioned in room’s booklet). Room booklet looks old and used, needs to be changed. See breakfast/restaurant section. French room service menu is full of grammatical errors(some of them suggestive for people with a dirty mind). Tv is small and old and remote was confusing and very dirty(our Prime Minister had green skin on some channels). Bed was super squeeky even if you plan to just sleep on it. Ceilings were so dirty, they had lines of dust hanging from them(see pictures). Bathroom double doors did not closed shut, they had a space between them, so no privacy(for noise or peepers). Toilet not aligned with counter, which makes sitting uncomfortable(see picture). No space to put soap next to sink, so directly on counter. Shower door did not stay shut completely, so water would end up on the floor(danger!) Not much shower shelf space. Takes a while to understand how works the shower head. Wall plug units sparks when you plug something in. Computer chairs are old, and hurts your back after sitting in it for more than 10 minutes. Bar still has halloween decorations(we are in mid-November). Our view to other hotel’s parking lot. Hotel chairs’ arm rest were dirty. Lighting in room very poor. No storage space. Restaurant/Breakfast: Big deception. Restaurant WAY understaff. Coffee weak. No cream, only milk(even though it is served in a cream container). Hot food, not hot. Actually cold when you get to your table. Hot food containers were two-thirds empty(ketchup bowl next to it was totally empty). Containers of pastry almost empty, we were left with the squished versions of it at the bottom. Fruits on floor in fruit section made the floor dangerously slippery. Nothing much for someone that has a tooth for sugar in the morning. Waiting in line for a table in the stairs is dangerous. Avoid. Verdict: Very disappointed. The people at the reception desk cannot save this place. Will not return. To the hotel: Most of this is fixable and would greatly upper the experience.

We just had a wonderful dinner here. The charcuterie selection was delicious several options to choose from, the cocktails were delish and our server Michael made the evening a riot! The restaurant has a fun vibe, all the dinners seemed to really enjoy themselves. Will definitely go back.

I can’t believe I have not yet done a review for The Albion Rooms! I don’t even know where to begin; I have so many good things to say about this lovely restaurant on many occasions. I moved back to Ottawa about a year and half ago and felt like I had so many new places to discover, Albion Rooms being one. After my first time visiting the restaurant it has become one of my favourites in the city, and I have brought so many people to enjoy all the great things they have to offer; mixed cocktails, charcuterie & cheeses, as well as all the delicious foods! Above how amazing the food, atmosphere and décor is the service is also A+, everyone is so friendly, talkative, and shows fantastic customer service. I have never had a poor experience here, which is why I keep on coming back. I recommend this place to everyone, wether it be a intimate date or larger group of friends

One of my favourite restaurants in Ottawa. The food is amazing, I love that it’s all local and Canadian– you can’t get much better than that! Cocktails are delicious and the servers really know the menu and what to recommend. Very good vibe inside, and it’s also a great spot for holiday parties and large get togethers.

In North America, the idea of going to a hotel for a good meal has diminished. However, I think there has been a resurgence of good quality food and beverage programmes as hotels are looking to generate revenue outside of room sales. Come to the Albion Rooms and you’ll find a very nice modern eclectic Canadian and British menu of which I loved the Scotch Eggs, and the charcuterie platter featuring some interesting game. I was also pleased to find Niagara Peninsula Gamay on the by-the-glass list which made as happy as I was eating the last Nanaimo pudding. I found the cocktail list to be creative enough with a twist on the classics.

Usually hotel restaurants are boring but The Albion Rooms is anything but. Truly one of my favourite spots because of the food, ambiance, and cocktails. I’ve been here several times since I usually end up staying at the hotel so my review comes from a year + of different experiences there. Overall the food is delicious(I’m drooling just thinking about it), the charcuterie will blow your mind(Try the salmon or foie with burnt honey). I never usually go with the charcuterie because the value isn’t there but this one will blow your mind. Love the cauliflower dish which is a staple in my mind. The food is just tasty and flavourful it’s so hard to try to figure out what you should enjoy. It’s that good. Good ingredients matter and the team seems to seek out the best and locally sourced foods because the dishes have this natural deliciousness to it that makes you devour everything. The cocktails are solid and always changing. The bar tending team is personable and friendly while making some of the best drinks I’ve had. Must go try!

I have been here a number of times and would definitely recommend it either for dinner or some drinks and apps. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is upscale while still being fun. They have an interesting cocktail menu which is sure to have something for all tastes and an extensive liquor collection however it the food which really keeps me coming back. I have yet to have anything that I didn’t like but the scotch egg and the cauliflower dishes are definitely my favorite. If you are looking for something more substantial then I definitely recommend the fish and chips which is a large step above your normal pub version. All in all this is a great place to take someone and manage to impress while still not breaking the bank.

While hotel restaurant cuisine can be very traumatizing, that wasn’t the case with Albion Rooms. Instead, the food was well-prepared and flavoured and made me want to return to try out more of their menu. We kind of made a mistake in going there at 11:00 on a holiday Monday because it is not a brunch place. That said, our lunch dishes(fish and chips for me, ceviche and cauliflower) were very tasty. My fish and chips was the good kind of greasy,(not the«ugh, I can’t eat more than one bite kind»). The fries were lovely too, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. I didn’t havemy dining companion’s cauliflower but she loved it and the portion was generous. I had a taste of the ceviche and it was light, but bracing, if that makes sense. The presentation was beautiful as well. I also loved the drink I ordered, the Marcus Brutus. It’s basically an amped-up Caesar. So flavourful, not skimping on the alcohol and the garnish was three different kinds of charcuterie. Yum! Apparently, cheese and charcuterie is their specialty so I will have to go back and try some. The ambiance and décor seemed great. We went on a rainy morning, so we didn’t get the full vibe. I walked by there late on a Friday once, and it seemed happening.

Nice place. The waiter was really friendly. He wasn’t as helpful with the menu. He didn’t like many of the menu items, nice of him to be honest but I may have missed some gems. I’m guessing he’s not into seafood. The fries were tasty, I also enjoyed the oysters and charcuterie. My striploin arrived overdone. :(

I’ve been here twice. Once for before dinner drinks — good selection, great service. I just sat at the bar area and the bartenders are the waiters, no complaints at all. I knew I had to come back. Second time, came for after work drinks and a light dinner. Ended up ordering a charcuterie platter, scotch egg, Parmesan fries and a salad to share. Charcuterie was the best, the foie and salmon prepared in house and it was delicious. Chorizo is local and I normally don’t like chorizo but it’s good — not too spicy. Well presented board with accompaniments and sufficient crostini(I hate asking for more) I think it’s reasonably priced for what you get and the service has been great both times.(Always bar area) Can’t wait to go back.

Showed up for 730 dinner reservation and joined families(small children) with meals in progress — not really the expected clientele. Had ceviche which was in larger pieces than expected. Cheeses we could have found at lowblaws — nothing particularly new or exciting, but not bad per se. Drinks were pretty good but not mind blowing. Highlight was the oysters, which were good. Perhaps overhyped as a new restaurant. Dining area maybe more casual than the bar area.

We had reservations here last week, for our 6th anniversary. We were looking for something interesting but not overly fancy. The Albion did not disappoint. We arrived in good time for our 8pm reservation and were seated at the best table in the house. The waitress informed us that the«vultures had been circling» our table which gave us quite a giggle. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the entire Albion Room experience. The service was reasonably friendly but to-the-point, which I prefer above all other styles. However, the time between our appetizer and mains was a little prolonged. It didn’t matter too much though because we were enjoying our conversation and drinks. I ordered the salad which was excellent in flavour and complexity but hilariously plated. It was a ginormous salad and it showed up on one of those classic, small, clear plates with the intricate raised designs on the underside. You know, the ones that all of our moms used to have to serve cheese and crackers on. Anyhow, what ensued as a result was me gingerly poking at this stack of greens on a very tiny plate while laughing and hoping the entire pile didn’t fall on me! The salad was very tasty. It had all of the standard greens, dandelion greens, an immensely tasty green I didn’t recognize, mint leaves, sweet-pickled cranberries, goat feta, sunflower seeds, and supremed orange segments. We ordered a scotch egg and the cauliflower plate to share. The scotch egg was very complex and moist. It contained duck, pork, deer, and wild boar. My only complaint was that it was a little overly fried/too crunchy. But c’mon! The cauliflower plate was a delight. Seared cauliflower, saffron mayo, raisins, croutons, pine nuts. These are flavours that have long been married but the balance on the plate was impressive! Saffron is not usually a favourite flavour of mine but they made it work. Lastly, my partner in dining had the elk burger. I was fortunate to taste a bit of it. I wasn’t sure if I would like it because sometimes game can taste like beef, which I don’t much care for. The elk had an excellent flavor which I might liken to a mix of pork and lamb with a hint of beef(for those who have never tasted elk either!). The burger also had bacon, cheddar, roasted shallot aioli — lots of good stuff. On the plate, was also discovered a curious pile of pickled onions. I tasted them and discovered they also had a small amount blue cheese added to them. This was an amazing combination. I tried it with the cauliflower. I tried it with the burger. All great! I’d head back in a heartbeat. One further note: I respect that the kitchen has included the names of their back-of-house staff on the menu. That gives me confidence.

Had heard about this place, but only just. Not really on the radar screens of a lot of people in town yet. Went to check it out, it was a blustery Tuesday night so wasn’t expecting much of a crowd. When you walk in you can tell they have dropped some serious coin renovating the space and for the most part it works. A gastropub feel with still a bit of hotel lounge to it. Initially sat at the bar but soon moved to a table, the stools are dreadfully uncomfortable. Our bartender informed us that new ones are on order, thank God! Bartender made a great Old Fashioned, had the burger(wasn’t feeling very adventurous), it was above average but didn’t blow me away. The fries were thick cut and a little too thick for my liking. Good service and ambiance. Bartender informed us that the charcouterie is really their speciality. Will definitely give that a go next time. Place definitely has potential if they can get the word out a little better and attract a crowd.

I don’t know about you Unilocalers but I hotel dining usually sucks. It’s about the same quality as chain food with a 50% markup. When I heard the Novotel had a new joint open up called The Albion Rooms I was a little hesitant to give it a shot. Then it happened. The rumours started this summer, a magical place in Ottawa was serving shooter sandwiches! What are shooter sandwiches you ask? NSFL I made the trek over to the Novotel and found The Albion Rooms. It’s a little lounge in the corner of the lobby but it’s pretty a swank little spot. We sat down at a small table with these pretty comfortable chairs and our server came over immediately. We asked about the shooter sandwiches and unfortunately they didn’t have the steak one but had a chicken one. We agreed to give it a shot and they recommended their chips. A round of cocktails and we our meal arrives! We found out chips were actually these massive fries covered in garlic and parmesan. First bite into the chips was excellent! Unfortunately the chicken sandwich just isn’t as good as the steak. It wasn’t bad but I had higher hopes. The meal itself was around $ 15 which is what I was expecting. Would I come back for the chicken? Probably not but I’d definitely give some other items a shot and get the chips again. It’s a little hidden gem as a location if you want to tuck away for a drink as well. Also our server was awesome.
