Pizza was good above average, good crispiness to the crust and wide selection!!! It was a nice place to get a beer, grab a snack and watch a game.

Most of restaurants closes really early around 6−9pm in Byward market. The Grand Pizzeria was one of the few places that opens till midnight. The food selection was limited. However, their wood-oven baked pizza was one of the best I have ever had! The bread of the pizza was thick but soft. Perfect balance of texture and favor. However, there were not that many topping and a bit pricy since it was located in the market. I also tried the Italian wedding soup, which was a a bit disappointed! The patio view was nice for summer and I enjoyed my late night dinner there!

The pizza here is a bit pricey and the choices are kind of meh — especially for flash fired pizza. My biggest issue was that my pizza was on the soft side so I couldn’t pick it up, but it also had a burnt taste from some charred lines on the underside of the pizza. You can save a bit of money if you come during happy hour because some of their pizzas are half off during this time. Be careful when you’re paying though because we were overcharged and didn’t realize until after we had already left.

We headed to the market to enjoy the nice weather and kick off the start of Victoria Day weekend. Settled in to the patio at The Grand, great service and meal to start. then I crunched in to a chunk of porcelain from a chipped plate that had to have come from the kitchen. Pointed it out to the server and she graciously gave me the staff 50% discount on my main. hmmm was at the Black Tomato a few years ago with a group of 10, 1 person had a piece of plate in their pasta and the manager comped the entire meal for EVERYONE! guess that’s the difference between the two restaurants, should have stuck with the one that appreciates its customers.

Overpriced mediocre pizza. The crust is ok. But the toppings taste quite average and didn’t even stay on the pizza. Pasta was ok but also overpriced.

Service was decent on a not so busy day. The food is a bit pricey being that the pizza was not up to standards of normal oven baked pizza.(in my opinion) seemed to try alittle too hard to make it seem like gourmet pizza when they would probably do better sticking with the basics and adding their own flare on the side. All I wanted was some pepperoni pizza. –smh– :(

Boring and bla. It’s like they don’t any to add any spice so everything is flavourless and boring — in an effort to please everyone. Overall result is very poor

Walked in on NYE, restaurant wasn’t too busy but when asked if we had reservations and we said we didn’t, we were given a bad vibe for not calling in ahead of time from the hostess and manager. Nevertheless we were given seats almost immediately. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive but the food was overpriced and did not enjoy majority of it. Environment is open with high ceilings, get ambience. However, next time we’re back in Ottawa, I don’t think I would revisit.

Excellent pizza, every time I’m in the byword market it’s a struggle to not go here. Plies they have Italian beers on tap and a delicious house hot sauce.

I came for dinner last night and had a great time with a party of ten. Our server was incredible though I sadly didn’t get his name. He was courteous, fast with getting our orders together, and extremely well-informed. We were dining with several people visiting from India and he had to do a lot of explaining about what certain things were and how they were made. I was impressed! And he took all our orders(with a lot of substitutions) from memory perfectly. I could never do that in my serving days. I am allergic to dairy so I couldn’t get much on the menu but I don’t blame them! We bought a bread basket(if you’re dining just two, I recommend buying the size for 4 — it’s only a dollar more) for an appetizer. I was a little miffed with having to buy the bread basket that almost always comes free at Italian restaurants, but it was cheap so I can’t complain. I had the seafood linguine which was okay. The pasta was undercooked and the seafood was overcooked but the sauce was divine. I didn’t like the cherry tomatoes because their skins always slid off and were very bitter and unchewable. I would have liked to see a bit more seafood in there for the price point, too. I definitely recommend this restaurant for the service, atmosphere and yummy food.

Four stars for a convenient location. Not the best gluten free pizza that I’ve had, but still very good option for celiacs.

I was shopping in the Market district a couple of weeks ago and really was impressed by the service I received at The Grand Restaurant and Pizzeria Bar. The waitresses and other staff members were very polite and considerate. I actually didn’t eat there, I only asked for water. It seems I had a little terror attack. I had been on the bus to get to the market area and a crazy person on the bus was talking about killing people on the bus.(This happens way too often in Ottawa as far as I am concerned and considering what happened last fall you never know when one of the coconuts has a gun or a knife on them.) I ended up with chest pains and shortness of breathe and sat at a table at the Grand and asked for a glass of water. After receiving the water I explained to a staff member what had happened and asked if it was ok to just sit for a while. When you consider that I didn’t eat there and the quality of the service I received I can only imagine how well one will be taken care of when enjoying a meal. THANKSTOTHELADIESATTHEGRAND!!!

Stopped in for lunch in the middle of the week with some friends who were visiting Ottawa. We were pleasantly surprised to hear about the Market Hour special from the server, and we all ordered a pizza and a fountain drink. We also got some bruschetta to start. The bruschetta was delicious, although hard to eat, with halved cherry tomatoes falling all over the place. The tomatoes tasted very fresh and flavourful, and the arugula and shaved parmesan were great. I ordered the capricciosa with a «white» olive oil base, instead of tomato sauce. The toppings tasted great, and the bright orange hot sauce was delicious as well. My friends ordered and split the Carne and the Pecuri pizzas, and both agreed the Pecuri was better. It was, however, very soggy in the middle due to the tomato sauce, and very messy while they tried to eat it(why I tend to avoid the tomato sauce pizzas and go for the white base). We sat on the patio, which was busy and very pleasant. It is covered, so we didn’t have to worry about any rain, as it was an overcast day. The chairs were quite comfortable, although they looked a bit dirty, as they’d probably been sitting out in the rain at some point. Our server was very attentive, and overall it was a great experience. I’d recommend going during the Market Hour, as it is more affordable, if you’re craving pizza. Next time I go, I’d love to try a pasta dish, so maybe I’ll go at dinner time instead! Recommended for a casual meal with friends or family(there were several large groups while we were there).

Great find on a nice, busy area during the summer. I tried the margherita, vegetariana and pecuri. Very thing crispy crust just the way I like it. Margheriti was very empty compared to the others. No topppings and I don’t think it’s really filling as much. For only one dollar less that the others, you’re getting much more less food. Pecuri was my favorite. Great cherry tomatoes and and mushrooms. Vegetariana tastes like a classic vegetarian pizza, not bad but not the best I tried.

The pizza here was good and stays very true to classic Italian pizzas, but at a price. There are a number of set margherita pizzas to choose from. For $ 15-$ 17, you get a personal sized pizza to yourself, which I found a little pricy. I had The Grand which was a margherita pizza with basil and prosciutto. The crust was nice and crisp but the base was too soggy and thin. You could not pick up the pizza and have a bite without the ingredients falling off. And I found the flavor light compared to a pizza you would have at, say, Fiazza Pizza. Overall ambiance was great and good service. The patio was nice and had a relaxing atmosphere in the Byward Market. Great for those who love authentic Italian pizza.

Went there for Canada day, tried the Rigatoni Bolognese and it was ok, was not the best but I had better. Didn’t have much variety of cocktail but they had a lot of beers and wines. The ambiance was great more like a Sport Bar type of restaurant. Service really fast.

Went to a Unilocal!event here last night(thanks Andrea!) and had the Pecuri pizza(mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, mushroom, goat cheese, topped with arugula and parmigiano $ 15.99) and although most of the crew ate the whole thing(no judging here), I was only able to eat half, which I was happy about… love leftover pizza. Great thin crust with fresh toppings and came piping hot which is nice. Also shared the calamari which I also enjoyed because there wasn’t too much coating and came with a delicious garlic dipping sauce. I would definitely go back and would recommend that if you’re in Market, you should give it a try. Also, thank you Charles for being such an accommodating server(bringing us a sample of romano beans for Lily and finding out what a bomba tomato is for me!)

Certainly more of a 3.5 star rating for this one, but because of our server, Charles, I’ll bump it up to 4. About 8 of us met up to sample their thin crust, wood-fired pizza on a Wednesday at 6pm, and the place was surprisingly empty, even on a playoff night. I suppose everyone was down on Elgin pre-drinking there, and this place is more of a restaurant than sports bar. I remembered this place fondly as Oregano’s, and used to love coming here the a «dinner downtown» with my family. I feel like this place still hasn’t quite found its identity. The décor is okay, but nothing special, and since it’s a pretty massive place, it feels very empty when there’s not a lot of people there. I tend to like smaller restaurants, so this is totally a personal preference. One plus? Being able to see the chefs tossing the pizza dough and sliding it in the giant oven. We ordered three apps for the table to share: the calamari, beef carpaccio and the salumeria(essentially an Italian charcuterie board). Our server was helpful in helping us decide, and even brought Lilly some beans to try when she was asking about the flavor of them in a menu item. I didn’t try the carpaccio as I’m not a huge beef fan, but it was a cured beef with arugula and shaved asiago, and I’m sure Tom will tell you more about it. The calamari may have been the highlight of my meal — it was perfectly crispy without being super caked in batter, and the lemon and dill aioli was fantastic! The salumeria was pretty decent with salami, cheeses and some pickled peppers. There was also a yummy dip(which I’m assuming was for the pepper?), and some other little cherry peppers called bomba peppers(shoutout to our server for finding out the name of them for Christina H who loved them!). One thing I kind of missed was having our server explain the the board, which I’m used to at most places, and especially since the meat and cheese are supposed to be local, so it would have been nice to know what was what. Our server did mention the menu was new, and he wasn’t entirely familiar with it, so perhaps that’s why. As usual, I was the last one to order because I was so busy chatting. I can’t remember the name of the pizza I got, but it was essentially cheese and sausage. I thought I couldn’t really go wrong with something so simple. When it arrived, I kind of wished I’d chosen something else. The pizza was just swimming in cheese and didn’t have a ton of sausage on it. I was starving, so I didn’t really care, but compared to the other pizzas around me it looked a bit boring. The crust was phenomenal — perfectly thin and chewy and crispy at the same time. Loved it! I would definitely order extra sauce next time, as I loved the flavour, but there wasn’t enough for my taste. The lack of blinds in the back area where we were sitting was a bit of a problem. Poor David and Jennifer P were forced to sit in the glaring sun or change positions every few minutes in order to eat and enjoy conversations without squinting. We asked if there were blinds(maybe hidden in the ceiling? ha!), and the server said unfortunately not. Overall, a decent place to come for thin crust pizza, but I still prefer Fiazza for a thin crust pizza. I could see this being a fun date night spot, and would come back to try their pasta.

This was a great find during my week in Ottawa! I came across this restaurant from the Unilocal app in search of a nearby Italian restaurant in Byward Market and I am very pleased with the result! Based on the reviews from Unilocal, this place is known for their pizza, but with a craving of pasta, I decided to order a pasta that day. The waitress was nice enough to recommend the Fettuccine Alla Angelucci when I told her I enjoy eating creamy pasta. When the pasta arrived, it looked beautiful and it smelled good! I then dug into my pasta and I have to say, their pasta is probably one of the better ones I had in awhile. Sauce was creamy, pasta was done al-dente and the scallops were good! With a beer to top off a nice meal after a long day at work, it was a beautiful evening! If you are in Ottawa checking out the downtown area and want a budget good meal, I recommend The Grand Pizzeria!
