My girlfriend and I were in the area as I promised her to stop by an other restaurant which ended up to be closed so with a lot of resistance I agreed to try Veras. I’ve had such hate towards burgers in restaurants for the longest time. I always ask if their burger are any good and everytime the servers will say yes it’s one of the bests. When you get the burger it’s a tasteless frozen patty. I figured we try this place because there was a butchery in the restaurant so maybe just maybe it would be fresh. ITWAS. The burger tastes really fresh. I was a bit disappointed that it was one of those select the ingredients for the burger places(personally I rather see the chefs interpretation of a good burger) however that being said it was probably one of the bests if not the best burger I’ve had in ottawa. My only other complaint is that if you want to have fries with the burger it’s an extra. It’s a tad expensive for the burger a la carte. If the fries were included I’d probably be eating there everyday. All together it was a really good experience with a very symbiotic concept which I really like.

Definitely the place for a quality burger in Bells Corners! This place beats out Five Guys with their thick beef patties, although Five Guys has better fries. Their burgers are also better and faster than going to The Works. Wait time was about 10 minutes and you can clearly see them cooking your burger on the grill and assembling it with all the toppings. Having the butcher on the other side of the store, as well as a fresh deli and ready-to-heat dishes, makes this an awesome place I’m sure I’ll be back to! About $ 13 for a burger and fries.

Vera’s serves up some great burgers and as a bonus you can visit the best butchery in town while you are waiting! They will even cook up your burgers medium rare if you ask which isn’t very common around here. A decent alternative to some of the competitors at a similar price point(5 Guys or The Works).

Not a perfect experience but an amazing burger; dare I say better than Bells Corners deserves? Being located inside The Butchery, these guys know all about meat. The seasoned Vera burgers, all-beef dogs, and spicy chicken fingers are to die for. The patties have tons of flavour, not bland beef like the fast food joints, and you can load them up with a wide array of toppings. Unfortunately they often forget my fries, so I end up waiting longer than the already painful wait. I find the fries a bit too hard(at least they’re fresh) and sometimes undercooked(they have to rush) so next time I might just forget them myself. You won’t be disappointed with the main course. Tip: browse the rest of the butchery for something to take home while you wait for your burger.

This is a contender for the best burger I have ever eaten. It was close to ten bucks for just the burger, but it was well worth it.(The fries are awesome too though.) I definitely recommend having the sauteed onions on it. Oh God, I’m starting to drool. If you love burgers, go here… period.

Myself and a colleague found ourselves in Ottawa one day and decided to try out Vera’s on his brother’s suggestion. I should warn you that throughout the hour long drive there, he was building this place up something fierce so I had very high expectations… and to be honest, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. As you walk in, the prepared food is to the left and butcher shop is to the right. It was just before dinner time on a Saturday so the crowd was high and the line queue was a nightmare. People were lining up on both sides of us and trying to cut in. I placed my order for a Vera Burger(classic single patty hamburger) with bacon, cheese, sautéed onions and Vera’s Sauce(a creamy garlic parm) by filling out a order sheet which was kinda neat. Again, I understand it was busy but we waited about 20 minutes for our food. With very limited seating we were forced to meander around the butcher shop for the duration while our food was prepared. Once we were served, we were lucky enough to secure a seat and I looked forward to trying this burger. Everything about the hamburger was beyond fresh which was probably the best part about this place. The flame broiled meat itself was very juicy and a very good size but seemed to lack flavour a bit. So overall the wait time, limited seating, and the fact that it’s an hour drive for me knocks Vera’s down a couple stars for me. The food was very good but I guess I expected to be blown away by it which I wasn’t. I would like to go back sometime when it’s not so busy and give it another chance to wow me.

I love a good burger and was excited to learn of Vera Burger being so close to my work. I went into the Butchery shop and was excited to see how nice this butcher shop/deli/Vera Burger counter was! Everything looked inviting, but this review is about the burger! I ordered the Vera Burger and specified how I like it on the small form you fill out at the counter to order your burger. Then I waited at one of the tables nearby with anticipation as they began making it. I also ordered a small fry as was recommended by other reviewers. when it was ready, I can tell you my first bite was, luscious! Warm bun, burger had a flame-broiled taste, the Vera sauce was a nice addition that I later regretted due to a breath ‘situation!‘ It was a good burger, thick patty, nice flavour, cooked medium! Would I drive all the way out to the West end for it, probably not! The fries were, and I am NOT exaggerating, HORRIBLE! Soggy, under cooked on the inside, over cooked on the outside, no salt on them… Really not worth eating, and I didn’t! I’ll stick to my 5-guys for now and anticipate going to Hintonburger, as I have heard good things! Vera Burger, please fix your fries!

If you like to enjoy real tasty classic burgers this is the place to go. Their fries are good too, not salted, so you can salt to taste. The burgers are thick, juicy, perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Nothing fancy about this place, just amazing classic burgers. The interior is very nice, very clean diner style restaurant although seating is very limited.

If you like burgers eat here… they are big, juicy, made with fresh meat over an open flame and as a result very tasty. Vera’s really should be one of the top burger destinations in the City. Although its a small location — not lots of seating — best to get it ‘to go’ if you are there between 11:30 and 1 and they close at 6 when the Butchery closes so get there early for dinner. But if you can manage all of this you are in for a treat :) They now have milk shakes which are good — the fries are also yummy, but two people can share a small easily as its a larger portion.

Vera’s easily gets my vote for best burger in Ottawa! Really, really great with nice fresh meat and toppings. The fries are pretty good too but I always find that fries cooked in peanut oil taste, well, like peanuts If they served Shakes, Vera’s would be be untouchable! :)

A few of us recently did a Ottawa burger showdown to declare the best burger joint burger in town. A few lazy Unilocalers(I’m hoping they review) were along for the showdown. Our list included Hintonburger, Veras and Five guys. Our burger baseline would be a burger with a slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato and a few condiments of your choice. We omitted bacon because Hintonburger has to way awesome of bacon. After an afternoon of driving around Ottawa we came to the conclusion that Vera’s had best quality meat but lost out a close hard fought battle to Hintonburger. It was real funny, while we were in here some people heard about our trek and wanted to join. We also ran across a waitress from The Works who asked us why we didn’t include the works and agreed with our assessment. It was a good fight Vera’s!

Today I visited The Butchery on my lunch break with my girlfriend. She recommended this place, and said that she had eaten there before, and the burgers are awesome. I could not resist, and said«I’M ALLFORIT!» Upon walking in, there right side is the butcher, and the left is prepared foods and a small restaurant. The best part is filling out the sheet when you order you’r food. You can go a bit crazy on the toppings, since they offer a lot of choices and variety. My girlfriend got a beef burger all dressed. I got the chicken burger with mayo, lettuce, onions, hot peppers and pickles on the side. We both got fries and a drink. Total came to 12 bucks. There are seats in the corner of the store to sit and enjoy your meal. Unfortunately it does get a bit crowded and a tad uncomfortable because the seats are next to the stores exit and cash register. They offer stools to sit on. I personally prefer having a back on my chair, so I can really relax on my lunch break, but that is something that will not stop me from coming back, just a personal preference. Our order took about 7 minutes to be prepared. Everything was cooked to order, which is great, I do not mind waiting for freshly made food. When you’r order is ready, they call your name and you go and get it. I find that cute. My girlfriend enjoyed her burger like usual, and I enjoyed my chicken burger. The chicken burger was fried, and did not offer a grilled chicken burger option. The hot pepper rings that were on my burger were thick and really tasty. The fries were freshly cut, and resembled the fries from a chip wagon, which are the BEST! The pickles are the«restaurant style» pickles that are also, my favorite. I believe they sell jars of them there too, but did not have the time to look around to pick up a jar. Just a side note, they do wear gloves when preparing your order. They had three men working the restaurant. One was working just the cash, the other was cooking the food, and the last employee was putting the burgers together. It looked like the owner/manager was in as well, which usually is a good sign. The place seemed to be running very smoothly. Overall, I will definitely be back to this restaurant and will probably pick up some meats next time I visit, and of course, cannot forget the jar of pickles.

I‘m from Toronto and I haven‘t tasted a burger like this down there(and believe me I have looked!). This thing is big, mean, juicy and delicious. We’re still talking about the burger. The fries are pretty darn good as well. Paired with the burger and coke it is a spectacular combination that will leave you stuffed. They are definitely doing something right here. Now if only there was something like this in Toronto to satisfy my burger cravings.

It’s a little hard to spot at first, but it’s worth looking for. Tucked away inside The Butchery, they run a pretty good burger stand. For about $ 12, you get a really good-sized burger, fries, and a soda. To order your burger, there are pencils and order forms, where you pick out what you want on your burger, give the slip of paper to the cashier, and wait for them to call your order. Make sure you come hungry! As I mentioned above, the burgers are very good-sized!

Tried Dick’s Dairy Dip today. Fries and milkshakes are great — and they do have better seating, but Vera’s burgers are better!
