I had spine surgery in 2001 for a herniated L4/5 disk after years and years of what I now regard as gimmicky physiotherapy. For several years I was pain free but then in 2011 was hospitalized for 8 days unable to stand or walk because of bulging disks in the same lower back area. The neurosurgeon wanted to try physio before operating again. The hospital recommended me to The Canadian Back Institute where I was assigned to Vijay Sharma. He worked one-one with me for 3 months and got me walking again without a walker. Now he has set himself up in private practice and I can highly recommend him as a physiotherapist Over my lfe time I have visited several physiotherapists. Vijay is extremely competent and knowledgeable, he’s not gimmicky, he has a science based exercise approach, gives you a duotang with homework exercises, has competitive fees, he teaches you in the sessions and explains in detail what he’s doing and why, using plastic models of the spine. Some physiotherapists are very gimmicky, they teach you nothing and you pay a ton of money repeatedly going back to them for pain relief using electronic devices and traction machines etc. Do I see Vijay often? No, in fact I have not had to go back, because Vijay teaches you how to take care of your own back — success as a physiotherapist I believe is marked by this. This to me is also a sign of a truly ethical physiotherapist.

This is a high end downtown Ottawa physiotherapy clinic at very affordable rates! Vijay was recommended to me by both my fiancé and my mother who is a family doctor. I needed help recovering from a bad ankle sprain and Vijay provided me with the same level of service that I have been used to in bigger cities. His one-on-one physiotherapy treatment allowed me to get back into running and I’m currently training for my first marathon. I have referred my co-workers to him and they have all had amazing results!
