Having never really spent any time in Pemberton(although heaps in Whistler) I thought a weekend to explore this valley was in order. After scoping out the ten or so B&B’s in Pemberton, we chose Auberge. Rooms were a little smaller than I’ve experienced before, but were cozy, yet modern. Not a doily in the place! The view from the Currie room upstairs was stunning. Sleeping with the shades up and the windows open we awoke to views of Mt Currie, still covered in snow, on a bright blue backdrop. For a city slicker, falling asleep to the sound of frogs, in a valley where blankets of stars touch the tops of mountains, is heaven. I think I might need to invest in one of those ambient sounds CDs now! The backyard stole my heart. Two hot tubs, a pool, a large garden, fruit trees and a fire pit. So quiet, outside of the birds chirping(and an occasional bear, or so the proprietor said). Breakfast was abundant and served in a big and warm kitchen. Baked apple french toast and a veggie scramble with potato crisps were on order, complete with fruit salad and abundant yogurt and granola… all were delicious. The owners were well traveled, outdoorsy and friendly. Along with his hospitality(we didn’t meet Joan, his wife), Michel had great suggestions for both restaurants and hiking nearby. He even filled us in on some local insights! I’ll be staying here again, hopefully next time with a bike for the Slow Food Cycle.
