My favourite winery in Prince Edward County, for sure. We stopped in and were blown away by the beautiful property and gorgeous tasting room that features colourful artwork and tastefully arranged information about all of the wines they offer. We sampled both reds and whites, but I was really taken in by the Rieslings. They also offer something more unique for the non-alcoholic crowd: grape juice! It’s really fantastic, and more tasty than you might imagine. The staff member that was on hand this past Sunday was fantastic — he was patient, knowledgable and knows how to work a large group of people so that everyone feels like they leave knowing something of a secret of the place. Be sure to ask about where the name of the vineyard comes from. Overall the wines are very affordable and, like I mentioned, my favourite of Prince Edward County.

An ABSOLUTE must do in Prince Edward County. After enjoying a bottle of By Chadsey Cairns Chenin Blanc at an area restaurant, we stopped by the winery to sample their other offerings. We were delighted to find a family owned and operated business and a beautifully appointed tasting room. By Chadsey Cairns offers a wide variety of white wines — some of the usual suspects(Chardonnay, Riesling) and some more unique offerings(Chenin Blanc, Muscate, Gewürztraminer). For reds, they have Pinot Noir and Gamay Noir. I liked many of their whites and their Pinot Noir. We left with 8 bottles. But, here’s the icing on the cake: on weekends you can enjoy pulled pork sandwiches, smoked ribs, and other delicious BBQ offerings at the picnic tables outside the tasting room. I can’t remember the name of the food truck that was serving it but it was the perfect addition to our wine tasting experience.

Prince Edward County is an up and coming area for wineries. But don’t let their young reputation fool you. By Chadsey Cairns in specific is a unique vineyard. Atmosphere Driving up the lane way to this vineyard, you will notcie that you are driving around a pioneer cemetery. Some of the stones go way back. You keep walking thru the cemetery and down the path to a really old barn where you will walk up the barn bridge and into this rustic establishment. The owner will be waiting with a smile and sample. The Wine 2007 Chenin Blanc $ 24 This is my personal favourite. Their notes include: A dry, refreshing wine with its distinct salty minerality and crisp lemon finish. Great with seafood. 2007 Pinot Noir $ 26 Their notes: Our best Pinot yet – delicate and refined, layered with cherry, pepper and toasty oak. Just a note about 2007 — its one of the best years in the past decade for wine in Ontario. You can’t go wrong.
