We had dinner at Butler’s on Saturday night. The mansion and restaurant rooms are very nice, it’s a classic old building. It wasn’t particularly busy, but our entrees were very slow to come out. Ultimately they did come out but my plate and food was cold. If it’s luke warm, I normally wouldn’t bother to ask to reheat it. However, it was mostly cold so I asked to reheat. By the time it came back the steak was pretty much ruined. The server was very apologetic. But really… they obviously didn’t manage the time well. Even then it’s fairly easy to at least keep a plate warm. It’s a very basic expectation, more so if you’re paying $ 30+ for an entrée. Sorry, cold food and spoiling a meal deserves a bad review in my book.

Last night, our first time at Butler’s, was our best meal in the Parksville and Qualicum Beach area. Driving up we were greeted by the beautiful gardens and the character, white mansion. We showed up for a early dinner without reservations and were seated quickly. The dining area looked to only sit 6 – 8 tables. Each table and chair was fully dressed in appropriate floral coverings. Our server was helpful and cute. We over heard her apologize for a very minor issue with something along the lines of a «gee golly». We ordered the spinach salad, the beet salad, and a seared salmon, which we shared. Everything was perfection.

Two of us were going through town to head to the ferry and the mansion caught our eye. We stopped in and had a wonderful lunch in a refurbished front room of this hotel/restaurant. My girlfriend had halibut and chips and I had a rib eye steak sandwich, both were very good and the soup that came with mine was excellent. The woman who served us was friendly and informative(the place used to host celebrities like Bing Crosby, Erroll Flynn, Rita Hayworth, John Wayne, etc.). Afterwards we toured a couple of rooms and were very impressed. This stop was made all the better by being spur of the moment and without any previous knowledge of the place. Recommended if you are in the area.

Sorry, not sure of the address… it has a view over the Golf Course, towards the ocean, and is a renovation/addition to an existing character building, and now features an amazingly good fine dining restaurant, called Butler’s. The Quebec chef offers a very delectable menu, it’s open for lunch and dinner, and the room’s allure is very special(a restored character mansion). If you take the old road from Parksville through to Qualicum Beach, you will find this gem. Very very nice…
