Great coffee and service! Had the egg, ham and cheese croissant which was absolutely delicious. The croissant had a buttery taste with a crisp outer layer, giving it a perfect balance. Coffee, served with raw sugar and creamer on the side was fragrant and of good quality. You can simply add a dollar to get the coffee with your croissant. Ambience of the café was pretty chill, perfect for those lazy morning where you want a cup of good coffee and a place to relax.

Thank You NYT and the 36 hours in Quebec City guide! Cuz Temporel was a hidden little gem past the Main Street, but worth the short walk. The food was fresh, ambience cute and charming décor. This isn’t meant to be a people watching restaurant since no one will be walking down this cobble stone street, but definitely bring a book, a smile or company to chat with and you can linger here for hours.

Excellent local lunch place in Quebec City. Although not the easiest place to find, this tiny café had excellent sandwiches. The food absolutely satisfied our appetites on a cold Quebec day. We ordered several cheese sandwiches: one with cheese and white wine and another with duck confit. We also ordered a thin crust pizza, which was relatively simple but quite nice as well. I would easily return here. Simple and delicious.

This little nook was the perfect start to our long weekend in Quebec City. My husband and I each had a local beer and shared a meat pie with a side salad. It was a perfect size snack(tasted amazing and fluffy) for us to continue our walk around town enjoying the sites. Our server was extremely pleasant and sweet despite our lack of knowledge of the French language.

it was away from busy streets. Not easy to find location, but a nice, friendly place. Good food, good coffee and nice people.

We stopped here for breakfast on our last morning in town — and quickly became disappointed we hadn’t tried it for dinner. However, from our vantage point I could see a lot of microwave use in the kitchen. Croissants were delicious and space is charming.

We lucked into Chez Temporel by staying in the hostel next door. Great café out of the chaos of the tourist war zones. Lovely service and pleasant atmosphere.

We found Chez Temporel from a review in the NY times. The restaurant is on a quiet street just off the main street and we were looking to avoid the crowds. Chez Temporel is nothing fancy. It is a cross between a pub and a casual café and is very quaint, the service was extremely friendly and helpful and the prices were reasonable. On this warm June day, it really felt like we were in the Provence area of France. There were 4 of us in our party and we had a pizza, soup, Quiche Lorraine, a salad and a Duck Confit baguette sandwich. The pizza was a bit bland, the quiche and salad were good but the Duck Confit baguette sandwich was excellent. The sandwich had great taste and flavors. Chez Temporel is a very relaxed restaurant and nice place to enjoy Quebec City away from the hustle and bustle. 3.5 stars.

The service was excellent, as was the food. We had the Special Temporal and it was great.

Food is better than Portofino up the road, and Portofino is pretty darn good. Would give five stars but their desserts need work.

This is somewhere I keep coming back to when I’m in the old city. Even when most of the people in there — myself included — are speaking English it feels off the beaten path, like a little hideaway. Sure it’s the walk off rue st. Jean, but it’s also the atmosphere in side — the cozy, unpretentious, unhurried air and the warm welcome. For the price the food is good — I’ve had quiche, sandwiches, etc. — if not out of this world. It’s hard to beat actually! Give it a try!

Petit bistrot où l’on mange super bien pour pas cher, avec un accueil souriant et hyper agréable! Une adresse hors des sentiers touristiques du vieux Québec où il né faut pas manquer de s’arrêter.

This is our 6th trip to Quebec City in 3 years. For our first night, we wanted to find a bistro with good food, frequented by locals, and not too expensive. We happened upon Chez Temporel and it fit the bill perfectly — a very charmng place off the beaten path yet very accessible. First, François LaChance, the co-owner was absolutely wonderful. He was attentive and delightful to chat with. The pizzas he made were fresh and delicious. He learned that we were in QC celebrating our wedding anniversary(31 years!) and served us a cordial. The carrot cake was scrumptious and the long espresso hit the spot! We spoke with several of the locals who were also dining there, and felt welcome the entire time. The next morning, we came back for breakfast. The GrosLouis and Egg/ham croissant were outstanding. We came to learn that Chez Temporel has been serving coffee, breakfasts and lunches(and now dinner) since 1974. I can see why they are still in business. We will return again for sure.

In Summary: Cute café off the beaten path provides welcome respite for tourists yet merely serviceable food and drink. — This café offers a perfect view of one of the ubiquitous old cobblestone streets in Quebec’s Vieux-Port. Lucky summertime clientele have the opportunity to enjoy the singular café table and chairs outside. However, food and drink are lackluster. Espresso-based drinks taste decidedly burned(as opposed to the more desirable dark or bitter). While the croque monsieur served was decent, the accompanying salad was a sad affair at best.

Mon chum…

Great little café off the beaten path. Tucked away in an alley away from the hustle and bustle of the tourists, we enjoyed a relaxing lunch here on a Sunday over labor day weekend. Wife went for a ham and cheese sandwich and I went for the $ 16.95 special. The special included a small Draft beer or wine, a bowl of the soup du juor, and choice of large salad or sandwich, coffee and dessert. All the food was fantastic, including the pea soup, which I’ve never had. Great food, good service and cheap prices(for the area) Escape the crowds and find your way to this place, you won’t be disappointed.

The old town of Quebec teems with tourists and expensive uninspired eateries. Chez Temporel provides a nice break from all the bustle. Located just steps from the main tourist highway in a quiet side street, this little bistro caters to many locals. There is no flashy interior decoration or fancy menu in five languages, but plain good inexpensive food for the footsore visitor. The menu is short and comprises a choice of salads, open faced sandwiches and all-time favourites like onion soup or croque monsieur. Everything is fresh and well done. The beer on tap is Boreal, and Boreal only. Fine with me since I always prefer local beer. The service is fast and friendly. Overall this place provides a nice inexpensive alternative to the often rather crammed pubs on the main streets of old Quebec.

This is the only true café we found in Quebec City. Sure they have other items, but you can come in, grab a coffee or espresso and sit with your book. Not touristy even though it is right off the main path. Walked by once and tried to make a note of it. Then promptly forgot where it was. Spent an hour looking for it again and found it to my delight. You could easily think you are in Paris or NY while in this little café.
