We searched on Unilocal for an upscale dinner during our visit to Quebec and this place showed up. Seemed to hit all the right notes so we decided to give it a try. I’m glad we made the small walk out of Old Quebec to eat here — we really enjoyed the experience. We had to wait a small amount of time because we didn’t have a reservation — no biggie, that’s our issue. We ended up being seated where, I believe, a canceled reservation was to go — right beside the window at a nice table. Service was great — our bilingual server was very helpful with the menu and explaining a few things. He was always available when we needed him as well. Our food was quite tasty. The French Onion Soups were good, although not the best we’ve had. I had the steak which came with a cheese sauce and mashed potatoes and my friend tried a different meat dish. Both were high quality and yummy. Overall — we enjoyed this place and it filled the desire of which we were looking for. It’s a bit more expensive than other places but it has good service and great menu options. Worth it for a nice, romantic or upscale night out.

We came here based upon Unilocal reviews and idid not disappoint. We came early — 6pm on a Monday, so we had friendly great service with easy English. I tried Morels with Brussels sprout– very tasty. Filet, duck and Cobia(fish) all prepared with interesting and delicious combinations. Reasonably priced for the quality!

We stopped at this place when our stomachs were protesting the lack of food. We took a quick look on Unilocal first and the reviews seemed good. The décor was very pretty. We stopped in for brunch and the food was great. The service was good. The food was good. I had the eggs benedict and they weren’t salty — the sauce was quite nice. The coffee was good. Great little breakfast place :) I’d love to stop by and try their dinner menu!

THISPLACEISEXPENSIVE I must say, I searched Unilocal and found this place for my friend to have diner on his short layover in Quebec. Here what he had to say… All tough the food was excellent, quality and taste was there, but it is falsely advertised as $$. It should definitely be rated $$$ or more. Appetizer 12 $, main dishes nothing under 25 $, desert 13 $… Wine by the glass: 2 once for 9 $… 4 once for 15 $… Pretty soon it hits 100 $ with taxes and tip for a party of one. So! If you are looking to give yourself a nice treat ok… but otherwise do not go there. During his dinner, he actually saw several people coming in, sitting at the table and when they saw the menu, simply left the place! Again, I’m guessing too expensive for that occasion. Maybe they have a lunch menu that is closer to what we would expect but the dinner menu is … Well you know now if you read my review!

Our initial impression was not good as the waiter did not seem very attentive. This quickly changed once we ordered our food and got to know him. I had the seafood croquettes with orzo. It was excellent. As the evening neared closing time there was a lady singing with other patrons at the bar. We soon found out she was the owner. She then offered us some of her favorite white wine and made us feel right at home. We were the last patrons in the place. As the staff was cleaning and closing they all began to sing. We took photos of them. I would definitely return and recommend. Awesome find!

Amazing food. I had the best risotto in my entire life. The steak was also tender and cooked just right. Very friendly staff. Oh and the French onion soup! It has a little bit of maple infused so you taste a pleasant sweetness that isn’t too noticeable. It definitely adds a bit of Canadian flair to the dish.

We went twice during our recent stay, once for weekend brunch and the other for weekday breakfast. Probably the best breakfast we have had on our recent vacations. Preparations, food quality, ambiance, service were all great! Would not hesitate to go again

A great restaurant. Good selection on the the menu. We are from the 4 to 7 menu. Appetizer size dishes, which was great as all the food sounded fantastic. so we ordered a selection of the smaller dishes and shared them. Next time I’m in I will order the onion soup as that seemed to be ordered by more then a few customers. Service was good the place was clean. Not a huge restaurant and not over crowded or very noisy. Good flow of customers. We had a good time for a good price.

One of my favorite restaurants in Quebec City! Way back this used to be a tiny café and now it has expanded to a classy bistro. Had brunch there today and loved the«Paris-Brest Salé.» Staff is professional, witty, and easy on the eyes. Great atmosphere and service! Have to come here at least once when I am back in town.

I feel like I’m the Eye of Sauron spreading negativity among the Shire… haha sadly I wasn’t too impressed by this restaurant. I DID like the cheese and charcuterie platter and the french onion soup. Even though the cheese selection in the platter is pretty generic e.g. brie, blue cheese, and this cheddar-like one(people really liked that one!), my fave part(as a non-cheese eater) was this fabulous smoked bacon that somehow retained all of the smokey flavor! They also included some jams and tiny cornichons on the side, always a win! The french onion soup was SO lovely — rich onion flavor, not too salty, and the cheese was not overpowering, the bread just soggy enough. We were NOT fans of: — the super SUPER cheesy duck cannelloni(Cannelloni de canard confit, fondant de Douanier et buisson de roquette citronnée) & that’s not just me being anti-cheese — everyone agreed the cheese was too overpowering. — the seafood risotto(Risotto façon paëlla Crevettes, calmars, pétoncles, chorizo, safran et bisque de crustacés) It was undercooked on top — the risotto rice was chewy & grainy. We thought about sending it back, but the servers were way too busy by then. I liked the pistachio crust in the Duck Duo, but the chutney was way too sour! The duck breast was also inconsistently cooked — tough & overcooked in some parts, raw and chewy in others. — the beef tartare(Tartare de boeuf Chorizo, basilic, parmesan et réduction de balsamique) No home run here, but nothing terrible either. It came with homemade or shoestring fries, but the ketchup came so late into the meal that we were all too full. The plain arugula salad on the side was much welcomed to counterbalance the heavy meal. The wine menu is rather non-intuitive and confusing until you realize that the grayscale of the bottle name font matched their headings. Service was decent until it got busy around 7PM. The two servers(the only ones we saw) seemed incredibly overworked, running around the two separate dining sections as well as the terrace seating. Doubt I’ll be back, but convenient location! Notes: — wifi with password — two bathrooms — they have a decent drinks + food selection during happy hour

Great ambiance, the service was exceptional! They have both inside and outside seating options, so that’s always great! Must try their homemade fries, they’re amazing! The Duck Duo was also good! Risotto was a little too alcoholic but it was very tasty!

Mon restaurant favori!

Great french food without the great expense and fuss. We ate at Le Hobbit summer of 2014, Quebec was in the middle of a Summer Heat Advisory. Coming from Texas, we laughed at the 85 degree high temp advisory, but it was real. Le Hobbit has no A/C and the interior of the restaurant was humid and hot. But the food was all perfect. My son LOVES Steak Tartare and theirs was exactly how it should be. Decent portion too. We sampled local cheeses and even tried a red wine from the region that was pretty good. The service was friendly and efficient. Le Hobbit is an easy walk from within the fortified(old) city.

I liked this place! It was warm and cozy for a cold, wintry night! You hang up your own coat right when you enter, which seems to be the standard at most restaurants. I got the filet mignon, which was good, as well as their thick house fries! Yummm. Service was great as well. Oh, and they don’t have any poutine here, though some of the reviews said they did! I asked about it and they said no, haha –_–

One of the most American-friendly places we are at in Québec City. To some that could be a negative but let me explain before you change the channel! The service was some of the most attentive we experienced(many Québécois restaurants have a decidedly more relaxed take on service compared to the typical American restaurant), they all spoke very good English(also not as common as you might think amongst Québécois), and they have English on the menu(this is pretty common). We also overheard one of the only English conversations the entire time we were in Quebec here. Besides the device the food was very good! The best French onion soup I’ve eaten anywhere and a great steak! Mixed drinks were also top notch. Atmosphere was very dimly lit but nice. No sign of Frodo anywhere though. Some other patrons remarked on this as well. Perhaps he’d already left to Mordor?

I ended up at Le Hobbit on a bitterly cold, blustery Friday afternoon after what felt like a very long journey from my yoga class back to my hotel. Have you ever seen the classic Campbell’s soup commercial where the snowman sits down in front of a bowl of soup then begins to melt into a smiling young boy? Picture that. With a perfect omelette. And beer. First — the servers at Le Hobbit were terrific — we muddled through as I tried to use my French and they tried to use their English. None of us were speaking very properly but happily, we all understood one another. Good enough for me! It was around 2:15 by now(because I got lost trying to find the Escalier Faubourg) but I was still craving petit dejeuner so I went with l’omelette delicieuse — tomato, mushrooms, lardons and goat cheese. It was served with fresh fruit and a pile of lovely, silver dollar sized potato pancakes. The baguette was grilled and buttered and although I rarely eat bread these days, I couldn’t resist the perfect slices of gluteny goodness. I washed down my brunch with a(large) Cheval Blanc and finished off with a cup of tea(which they comped). I really enjoyed the vibe of Le Hobbit but it can be a little confusing. The servers wear ties and the bar looks quite chic but the food, atmosphere and prices are blissfully casual. This is a truly comfortable, welcoming spot — especially on a cold day. Go and enjoy!

Originally written and posted on a duplicate profile on 7÷28÷2011: We had a wonderful dining experience here before heading to a concert for the Quebec Summer Festival. I enjoyed the frigale(soup or salad and hot beverage for $ 6CAD) deal with the elk skirt steak and mashed potatoes with leeks. Perfectly done and very flavorful. My husband had the duck cannelloni with wild mushrooms and cheese which was out of this world dish to eat. The ambiance was great as we people watched, balking at the insanity of people driving cars into the old city.
