Absolutely one of the best restaurants I ever had the pleasure of eating at, great location, kind staff and delicious food. Perfect selection of wines, cocktails and gluten free. I highly recommend it.

Great bistro! Classic French bistro fare executed well — can’t go wrong with that. Highlights included the salmon tartare. Although in Old City, many francophones at the tables.

An excellent dining experience for dinner. Their menu includes year long options and, what I assume to be rotating seasonal options as well. At 9pm, the year long options are available at 21% off the normal price, which makes this a hot spot for the late night dinning crowd and I recommend making reservations to secure a spot. The food was solid, but nothing exceptional was on either menu and I felt dessert fell flat. Great ambiance, excellent vibe and service, plus the 9pm discount make this a great spot for dinner. I’ll likely return to try some of their new seasonal options as the menu changes.

Great food, service was professional but with an attitude. We weren’t hungry enough for a multi-course meal. I ordered a main course, wife ordered an appetizer. When you start out ordering in small increments you can always order more, but we got the distinct impression that the server was annoyed with the prospect of a smaller-than-hoped-for check. The wine list is expensive — very few selections under $ 45. We ordered one in the $ 30’s, again seeming to annoy the the server(it was delicious). I speak French competently though more slowly than a native, but all my attempts at French were met with English responses, as if the server couldn’t be troubled. It’s too bad the service wasn’t more welcoming, because the food was delicious and the portions were ample. If you’re willing to spend a lot you’ll probably be treated better; our tab was $ 95 and apparently wasn’t enough.

We were there early July and we absolutely loved this restaurant, from the nice terrace to the food, including the staff. Very good value for money. We had dinner in other expansive places in Quebec City but Echaude was a great experience and we do recommend it!

We had a very enjoyable meal here, and our experience was enhanced by the super-friendly and efficient service of both the young men who attended to us. The main dishes we chose both had a fusion feel — French with a touch of Asian, and were of high quality. Dinner for two with three courses, a half bottle of wine, one cocktail and sparkling water came to about US$ 150, which we considered good value.

Very good food and a great atmosphere. We sat outside one June night. It wasn’t too crowded and the walk to this place from the upper part of the town is hard to beat. There tend to be more locals in this area and we encountered a few here that were very rude, but they weren’t there for long and it’s not the restaurants fault. Just something to be aware of.

Surprising find and experience! We stayed at the Le Saint-Pierre, Auberge and our concierge recommended this quaint little restaurant! We were pleasantly surprised at the quality, price, presentation of(regional) food and most importantly — service! We were dining on a Tuesday and noticed the restaurant was packed within a half hour of our reservation. We now understand why! My only complaint might be the noise level with a full dining room.

A good 3.5, consistent and not disappointing. However, classic food that lacks of a subtle and light touch somewhere… difficult to describe but it lacks something…

Our waiter made this meal extra special. Dan was amazing. He was super personable, entertaining and very knowledgeable on the menu. We tried the trio tartare, rabbit soup, seared foie gras, flank steak, veal trio, tuna, lasagna, duck, oysters, goat cheese app chocolate desert, sugar pie and crème burle. Everything was awesome but the foie gras, rabbit soup and flank steak really stood out. Dan made it extra special though. Wish the owner was there so I could put in a good word. He’s a real gem!

My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner at L’Échaudé. I opted for the mushroom gnocchi appetizer and duck confit while my wife ordered the scallops appetizer and followed it up with the steak frites. Our food was delightful but not spectacular by any means. So why 5 stars then? Because everything about the restaurant was enjoyable. The food was good, the staff friendly and professional, and the atmosphere was upscale but not fussy or demanding of its customers, all for a reasonable price.

Great place for a meal. Pretty, classic set up. Very friendly staff. Took my wife for lunch here for her birthday and felt a little underdressed in a flannel shirt and Sorels — apparently suits love it here on the snowiest of days. Both the salmon and steak tartares were fresh and flavourful. Wine selection had a lovely Quebec rose. $ 70 was a great price to pay for two.

located in the lower old town, L’Echaude is a pretty restaurant. went there for a light lunch. decided to start with terrine of pork. very nice and tasty. then i had the shrimp salad with avocado. it was tasty and i was surprised at the portion. more than half dozen grilled shrimp. i was tempted but the $ 8 cocktail but it was lunch so i didn’t get one. oh received the complementary appetizer(not sure way… maybe because I didn’t order dessert. the menu said something about coffee and dessert with meal. wasn’t in the mood for dessert for lunch) the servers were all very friendly. my spoken French was not good so they spoke to me in English.(i could read the menu well enough in French but i heard a very good explanation of the menu to a neighbouring table because the couple didn’t know much French)

The BEST Eggs Benedict and Steak Tartar. On our first day in Quebec City we happened upon L’Echaude for brunch. Not being a big breakfast fan I was pleasantly surprised at how fabulous the EB was. Great Hollandaise, perfect eggs, on bacon/cheese bread. Excellent service as well.

I give L’Echaude five stars purely out of love for their appetizers. I ordered a heavenly goat cheese salad that was a small and rather underdressed salad with a round goat cheese… tart I guess? It had a soft pound cake bottom and a crisp top with warm goat cheese in the middle. Amazing. My mother ordered a light asparagus purée that she considered tasteless. I tried it and switched with her. The purée was filled with creamy flavor in as was my father’s lamb satay which he also deemed tasteless. My main course was a dry duck confit that I disliked. Overall i strongly reccomend coming here but it would be a good idea to just order a few appetizers as they are filling enough to be a full meal.

This is a solid restaurant with nice but somewhat generic décor, a great wine list, and well executed but somewhat unexciting food. The Bistro menu is actually 21% off after 21:00 hours(which was the case on my visit) but honestly nothing looked very interesting. Honestly, it seems that half the Bistro menu items are tartare — which I just didn’t trust on a Monday evening in a half full restaurant. We ended up ordering off the Marche’ menu with my wife getting a small asparagus and crab salad which she enjoyed(she was looking for something small, because really how many big, rich meals can you eat day after day). For me, I ended up with a very tender veal dish served over creamy orzo with fiddleheads and mushrooms. It was good, but nothing I couldn’t make at home for less than $ 32. I have nothing against L’Echaude, but I have no big desire to return. It’s a good restaurant, but nowhere near the caliber of Chez Boulay despite a very similar price.

The best in Quebec! I visited Quebec between Christmas and New Years and stayed 3 nights. The city is full of tourist-traps and mediocre food /service. This place was different for many reasons: 1. It seems more like a place for the more affluent locals rather than pods of photograph-snapping, mouth breathing tourists. We saw multigenerational families and pretty, well groomed French-speaking couples. No sneakers and fanny packs here. 2. The service was not only superior to anything else in Quebec but it beats some of the one Michelin star restaurants I’ve visited elsewhere. Our server, Daniel made us feel like an old friend the minute we walked in. He offered incredible professionalism but also quiet charm. At the end of our meal– he recommended some other places to check out and when we returned the next day– he remembered us and our preferences. Typically, you may be lucky to get such treatment as a regular at your local favorite spot, but here it was a norm. 3. The food. Very good – not extraordinary – but nevertheless very good. We visited twice — the first time it was very good– the second day it was even better. How often is ones very good experience surpassed the second time around? They gave us a hot chocolate shooter that was absolutely amazing good! Again, very strongly recommend it.

We came here after a recommendation from the concierge at our hotel. He said it was one of his favorites. It’s in the old city along the pedestrian streets so you get that European old world feel. The menu was only in French, but our server translated anything that we couldn’t figure out. My boyfriend went with the sea bass which was rich and warm and everything you expect from French cuisine. I had the salmon tartare with frites. It had capers and was very refreshing on a hot day. We’d definitely come back!

Decent food at a reasonable price and within the city center. I wouldn’t call it a destination restaurant, but good for lunch.
