I was coming to Red Deer to run and volunteer for the Spartan Race. The hotel was partnered with them and offering a special rate at $ 114 a night. After looking around on expedia it wasn’t the best deal in town but it was the only one I could find that offered a late checkout till 1pm. I had called to make the reservation and inquired about late checkout. The first employee I talked to said I wasn’t allowed to book that until a few days before my day. She didn’t seem to have much knowledge and the reasonings seemed very stupid and lacked commonesense. So a week before my stay I called again and talked to a different person and she said I could do a late checkout till 1pm for free and then it was $ 10 charge for every hour after that until 4pm. She was very knowledgable and seemed to know what she was talking about. She said she would make a note on my booking that I had requested it. Upon arriving the hotel was easy to find but the front door is around the back so make sure you park on the right side. I checked in and asked again about the late checkout till 1pm and it was no problem. They do not offer any kind of breakfast apart from a coffee machine and some muffins in the front entrance which for the price of a room you would think they would have a better option. The hotel room was a smaller single queen bed. It wasn’t super clean with something left on the toilet seat and a weird stain on a pillow case. The shower was clean but the handle was backwards. When you want cold its hot and hot is cold and it loses pressure. The free WI-FI is very weak and I barely got a signal anywhere in the hotel. I loved that moxies was attached to the hotel and you can access it without having to go outside. The food was the same as any moxies and the service was pleasant. A few times you were left waiting a little but overall not bad. I could never imagine paying full price for a room here as it seems too expensive for what you get. The staff knowledge is hit and miss depending who you talk to. The location is good though and for the one night at a discount it did the job.

I stayed at the Sandman Inn and ate in Moxie’s for breakfasts and dinners, since it was attached to the hotel. All in all, it was consistent with every other Moxie’s I have dined in. The décor was contemporary with a rustic feature wall made of rock, dimly lit, inviting, as usual. Unlike Calgary, it was not overly busy ever. Breakfasts were pricey(two people $ 40 with gratuity) but worth it. Morning staff were great — we had the same waitress both mornings and she was delightful. I had the breakfast parfait and it was HUGE and delicious. I was starving, but cried uncle half way through. For dinner, there were three of us, and we got a whack of appetizers. Calamari, avocado spring rolls, yam fries, salsa shrimp, chicken wings, cheese-stuffed meatballs… Needless to say, we were stuffed and happy. More friendly staff on the dinner shift to round out the experience. I would definately go back there. No problem!
