Friendly staff, cool owner. And simply one of the most stable live venues in Red Deer. I never see anyone want to fight in there. And there’s not many other locations in Red Deer that can call themselves dedicated to live music the way The Vat does — just look around and you’ll see decorative cues that are aimed at the musically minded.

An absolute gem of a «dive» bar.
I dropped by The Vat yesterday after being away from the city for 5 years — it hasn’t changed a lick, and that’s a good thing. One of the funkiest live music venues/​dive bars I’ve ever been to, The Vat is funky, eclectic and altogether charming and welcoming. No wonder it’s a hit with diverse people ranging from college students to old regulars. I wish I could pick it up and take it with me, up north to Edmonton.
The server was friendly, the beer (house draught) was ultra-​cheap and cold, and even though there were only a couple of rub-​a-​dubs around on a Sunday afternoon at 2, it was a blast.
Definitely drop by if you’ve never been. A great way to break up the long drive from Edmonton to Calgary, or vice versa.
