Oh what a treat! Being German I frequently miss my homeland & when I do so, I just venture out the D Sausage House & buy… lots! I love the fresh Bavarian Rye Bread & the Original Meatloaf… amongst all the other fine delicacies on offer! If you want to get a taste of Germany — in my humble opinion — this is the place to go! Truly authentic & not just a money grab, which is to say, pricing is very reasonable for excellent quality! You MUST check this place out the next time you are in beautiful Steveston & no, I am not related to the owner of this fantastic business!

Oh lawd, someone save me from this place. Every time I come in, I want to grab everything and stuff my face. Everything is made by a 5th generation German sausage maker. Want to know exactly what’s in everything? The staff can tell you! And they’ll be happy to tell you. They have an excellent product that they are proud to sell, and it shows. My favourites, so far, are the truffle pâté, Bierbeisser, and seasonal bratwurts for BBQing(blueberry for summer, cranberry for fall). They also do party trays, and I’ve had them prepare a meat plate for a party, which was promptly — gleefully — devoured by my guests.

Awesome local business! This is apparently run by a 5th generation sausage maker. The staff there are very knowledgeable and make a nice variety of sausages that are super fresh. It’s great that you can buy in small quantities here. Prices vary depending on the type and size of sausage, but on average it works out to $ 2-$ 2.50 each. Hubby and I especially like that I can pick some fruitier ones like apple/cranberry and blueberry while he can pick the spicy one without the other complaining! They also carry a selection of cured meats, cheeses and crackers. One of my favorite shops in the area.

I don’t visit Steveston very often but when I do, D Original Sausage Haus is a must visit. I like how the staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful in providing suggestions on the large selection of sausages. My favorites: Nueremberger and Weisswurst. The chorizo is also dee-lish, especially with a beer or a Vita malz.

This is a really neat store where i can whip by and buy a bunch of gourmet high end sausages, cheese and deli meats to prep appys or a bbq(or both). They even have breads and other fancy condiments. Friendly staff who helped me put something amazing for my dinner party today.

Another update for some more product that I purchased. This time no chorizo. Some different varieties of bratwurst and something called a «matador salami». This was not a chorizo but some other type of cured meat that looked like a chorizo, and was much longer. I used it in a homemade paella. ~HOLYGUACAMOLE~!!! I’m getting this again! This was one of the most amazing cured sausages I’ve tasted. Nice texture in terms of chewiness, nice flavour profile with a hint of spiciness. Not as smoky flavoured as the chorizo.

When I shop for groceries I love to chat it up with the staff whenever I can to learn about what I am putting in my mouth. D — Original Sausage Haus is no different. I was told by the staff there that the sausages are made by 5th generation sausage maker in Vancouver(Main St and East 10th Ave) in a basement where the space above is a food establishment(café perhaps?) of some sort. Their products are made from meats free of antibiotics and hormones. They try to use as little preservatives and nitrates as much as possible. The sausages on display did look very appetizing. They looked fresh and gourmet. I saw a good selection of bratwurst from mild to spicy, weisswurst, salami, chorizo, and European condiments, pastas and some selection of cheese. My partner and I bought two sticks of mild bratwurst with feta and apricot(to go with our home-made fluffy pancakes), and oh my, they were delicious! I pan fried them and popped them in the oven and the sausages are as good if not better than Oyama(Granville Island) and Sebastian & Co.(West Vancouver). I later learned they supply to The Salt Tasting Room, Hawksworth, The French Table Bistro, Les Amis Du Fromage, Bosa Foods, Benton Brothers(Kerrisdale), Bitter Tasting Room and The flying Pig just to name a few. These vendors hold the reputation of serving up some of the best foods in Vancouver. If they trust D — Original Sausage, I think you are in good hands too.

You know when you just walk around, and are not really looking for anything, and somehow stumble on something, well that is what happened and that is how me and my partner found this place! We were not even hungry, as we ate breakfast/lunch while being in Steveston Village, and walking around noticed a sign for a bakery, and my ‘meat-addicted’ mind wanted to come into this place! They are the new kids to the block, but when you enter you know quality when you see it. All types of meat, some even ‘dangerous’ looking(the all albino white one, see that and you be the judge!’) to your arteries, but you know it’s going to be so damn good in your mouth. The people working here were very informative as to their product, knowledgable and friendly. Explaining the whole process of the meats, as to where they are processed, what is in all their versions of sausage, the ingredients, the taste, and even the storage, and knowing that there is no preservatives, so you shouldn’t just buy, and keep them laying around in the fridge, as they will discolor, but don’t you worry, they are still edible, just not as attractive as when you bought them, and that is why you should come in here, buy, go home, cook and enjoy! I ended up buying two sausages from them for our late dinner breakfast, yes it sounds weird, I know, having buttermilk pancakes for dinner, and I needed a meat side, and I was amazed at the flavor of these links! My partner was iffy about the feta cheese that was in these things, but the hint of spice, there was fruit in them, and meat, a mixture that just made us wish we had more, but now we know, this is the place to hit up for your specialty quality meats if your in Richmond. Already thinking of the next ‘breakfast’ time, and making the trek to try their other assortment of sausages, and maybe tempt that maple bacon I saw out of the corner of my eye!

Absolutely awesome sausages. We came with our 2-year old who devoured one of the smokies on the spot. Great service, great quality, great value. Will definitely come back!
