I have had take-out from here a few times and it is always delicious! The pakoras are amazing, and you get a generous amount.

All of a sudden, my new go to place. I’m such a bandwagon. But very deleesh, the butter chicken sauce. Chicken could be more moist but this sauce makes up for it.

No customer service what so ever. Felt rushed to order and the food wasn’t that great. Butter chicken tasted like tomato soup. That is not what real butter chicken taste like. Don’t know how they mess up on a simple dish like that. See you never.

We had dinner, only 1 waitress so everything took awhile. Food was so-so and it took awhile to serve. We ordered the village dish I forgot what it was called, but the chicken was so dry, lamb was hard, all the curry tastes watery and off. The naan apparently wasn’t up to par for my friend. I honestly don’t know how much Indian food usually cost, but I think it was too high for its quality… coz when I paid I just wasn’t happy and after eating it felt such a cliffhanger because I was full but not contented. I’ve been there once previously with friends, from what I remember about that time, the food was also so-so and it took awhile(tho understandably it was lunch and busy) so we went to shopper’s drugmart to kill time and walked around until food was done.

Came here for lunch with two of my colleagues today. We were seated right away and the server was quick to get us water and asked if we were interested in the lunch special or the regular menu. The lunch special was HUGE and only costed us $ 8.95 each! We got a basket of naan to share, and each of us got a silver tray with butter chicken /daal /raita /rice /and salad! Such a good price for a very generous portion of food. I thought it would be busier but we were in and out in just over half n hour! It’s only a short drive from where we work so I’m bound to be back again!

Worst experience, if you little bit understand what biryani is then never never order one here(I order chicken biryani) yuck, two bites n I left as it is. Veggie thali another disgusting stuff showed up on plate. You cannot make out if it’s daal makhni or palak daal And interesting thing they don’t serve raita with biryani. When I ordered one, they got me bundi raita for chicken biryani. Also spice level is completely off. I ordered medium even with raita it was horrifying. I am an Indian n I do know what is Indian food this was just ugliest thing ever.

Best creamy Indian curry! First tried this place when it was in the entertainment book. Prices are affordable and food is consistent. Their servers are always friendly and your cup of water is frequently topped off which is a bonus when eating spicy foods. They only have vegetarian samosas but they are the puffy flaky kind that are so good. Lots of potatoes and peas inside. Their lamb roganjosh also a must as the meat is tender and flavorful. Each curry comes with papadum, rice and naan which is a great deal for around $ 15. It’s filling and we always have left overs for lunch tomorrow. Their curries are in the creamy side so if you like butter chicken you will like most of their curries. This place is a must if you just started getting into Indian food. I’ve taken my reluctant Asian family and they all can’t get enough of it now.

The restaurant doesn’t look very nice from the outside, but I was surprised that the interior is actually pretty nice and well decorated. It’s fairly small inside and on a Saturday night, we were lucky to find seats without reservations. We started off with Vegetable Samosas(although we had wanted meat samosas, but they had sold out). It came with two sauces — one being slightly spicy. For $ 1.50, you get two samosas, which is a pretty good deal. The samosas were crispy on the outside and stuffed with peas, potatoes, and spices. MW suggested we try the Lamb Vindaloo. The boneless lamb is cooked in ginger, coconut, vinegar and cream mixed with potatoes. For all the curries, they will ask you how spicy and you can choose from mild, medium, or spicy. We went with medium, but I was surprised it wasn’t too spicy. MH commented that this was surprisingly very good. The lamb was tender and the sauce was a nice change from your typical masala or butter chicken. Well we had to get the typical Butter Chicken as well. MH and MW had told me that this was very good at Tandoori Kona. The boneless chicken is marinated in their special buttery sauce, cooked in garlic ginger, and cream. Chicken was well tenderized and the sauce was creamy yet flavourful. All the dishes came with Naan as well, which is baked in a Tandoor oven. I really liked this leavened bread because it didn’t feel oily at all! It was much different from the naan I’ve tried at other restaurants, which are usually drenched in oil. Very fluffy and perfect to pair with all that sauce! I think you get a bowl of rice for each dish you order, so we got 4 bowls of basmati rice. Rice was fluffy and seasoned with some vegetables. The curries may look small in the bowl, but along with the naan, rice and all the cream that’s in it, you actually get really full! The Chicken Tikka featured boneless chicken marinated in yoghurt ginger, cooked in a Tandoor and served with butter sauce. This was slightly more spicy and the chicken was very tender. I thought the sauce was not really necessary since the chicken is already well flavoured. We also got the Mixed Grill(I think it was called a different name on the menu), but the platter featured BBQ chicken, chicken tikka, lamb tikka, fish tikka, and was served with butter sauce. This is great if you haven’t tried a lot of their grilled dishes and want a bit of everything. I found that the fish wasn’t that great since it didn’t seem very fresh. Overall, Tandoori Kona is definitely a hidden gem in Richmond. Prices are reasonable since Indian food is very buttery and you will get very full with the rice and naan. Good idea to come here with a small group of friends so you can share a variety of dishes. However, the restaurant is fairly small, so larger groups may need reservations. Pros: — Great food at reasonable prices — Ambiance is surprisingly quite nice inside Cons: — Service is a bit slow(seems to be run by husband and wife)

Best Indian food I’ve ever had. My dad and I love going around the lower mainland trying the different Indian cuisine, and this still remains #1 on my list. Nothing else really compares. It would be nice to see this business expand. It’s always really busy but the wait time is never long.

Hands down excellent authentic Indian food! I would of given it 5 stars but unfortunately their service needs improvement. The portions are on the smaller side. but who needs to stuff their face with food: p.

When we first came the food is good. But the next time I was trying to order to go, the person on the phone seem like not able to understand English, I asked my question twice and they just hang up the phone…

The Bads: If you dine in expect below average service. You’ll be squished into a small room and you’ll hear every conversation from each table around you. You’ll get all the tap water you can drink, just don’t look at the tiny bits floating around inside the glass. There will be one waitress for everyone so wait time can be lengthy. Don’t count on seeing a smile because they don’t exist inside Tandoori Kona. The Goods: Everything they lack in service they over compensate in delicious food. Authentic Indian cuisine that never disappoints. I recommend the butter chicken but hope the naan bread isn’t over cooked. The very best thing about this place is their take out option which allows you to skip all the cons and enjoy their food from the comforts of your own home. I’ve eaten their food over 5 times so clearly good is triumphing over evil here.

TERRIBLESERVICE. The hours are wrong on this listing. They are open until 10 on Friday and Saturday, NOT10:30. If you forget this, they will be happy to remind you ad nauseum during your visit. We came in with a party of five an hour before this establishment closed. We thought we had 1.5 hours to eat. Turns out we had an hour. Should be ok — right? Otherwise, why seat us? Ha. Ha. A woman seated us and said, «we close at 10». This was a few minutes past 9. Ok. We get it. We won’t dawdle. Then a man came and served us — «we close at 10» — he was so brusque and rushing us that my family was a little in shock. Items on the table were dirty. Additionally, we were missing silverware and I thought the server was going to blame us for it. I’ve never had such poor service in an Indian restaurant! Another gentleman came over to our table repeatedly and said, «We close at 10.» I wanted to let him know I got the point… but refrained from graphics. The food was very mediocre, the naan was a little burned. Portions were small. Palak Paneer & Butter Chicken — our standards, were ok. The Palak Paneer was more palak-y than paneer-y — it could have used a bit more cheese. The prices were typical, averaging about $ 10 per dish. Not that I would encourage you to put up with abuse from wait staff even IF the food was good… but, DEFINITELY go to another area of town and don’t bother with this mess.

This place still rocks the food. Amazing. Wonderful. I can’t stress this enough, if you go anywhere else, you are missing out. Great they have managed to keep up the quality without raising the prices drastically.

I cannot find another Indian restaurant in Richmond with the same quality of food !! It can get busy there and they aren’t the perky overly friendly type of servers but they get the job done and are polite. Everything we have tried here is fantastic. Take out portions are about twice the size than when you eat in. We usually get the butter chicken, palak paneer, garlic naan, and one of the curries. All super tasty.

Quite easily the worst Indian place I’ve ever been to. All the curries are made out of the same ketchup tasting base. On a bad day I can make better food than this at home. The preparation and the service time is downright the definition of slowwwww. this place is an insult to all the people from my side of the world. Also found a hair in the raita. Horrible!

This is arguably the best Indian restaurant in Richmond and potentially one of the best in the Lower Mainland(so say my Indian friends.) Ordered the lunch special which is basically a preset tray of a bunch of items. Everything was vegetarian except a small portion was a chicken curry(tasted like butter chicken). Was a bit disappointed because it only had a two small pieces of chicken. The tray comes with two big pieces of fresh naan and a small scoop of rice. Would have liked to have had more rice and less naan(perhaps a personal preference.) Nevertheless the place was packed at 12:30. Managed to get a table right away as someone was leaving. Lots of people also came in for take out. Food came out right away probably since everything is made in one large batch for the lunch special. Around 1:00 the place cleared out fast and we were one of two tables left. Overall a great place for good Indian food. I’ve also been here for dinner and the butter chicken and aloo gobi is my favourite. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner.

So there I was in Richmond Canada with a craving for Indian food. I Unilocaled and also got a recommendation for this place and went to try it for lunch. I got the veggie samosas, naan, a mango lassi and the lunch special which was butter chicken and a bunch of other little sides and sauces. The samosas where quite big and round and deliciously filled and crispy. Very good. The mango lassi was decent but wasn’t my favorite I’ve had. The lunch special was very flavorful and reasonably priced. My least favorite was actually the butter chicken as it tasted like boiled chicken chunks in tomato soup, but everything else was extremely tasty and really hit the spot. I’d go back.

Spicy indian food in Richmond! I’ve found you, finally! Ordered the palak paneer, chicken curry, lamb vindaloo(hot) and two types of naans. The food overall was really solid — large portions, tasty garlic naan, great flavors and it was actually moderately spicy! Yippie! Unlike all the other indian food places I’ve had in downtown Vancouver area, this place seemed to know how to use a chill. It wasn’t over the top spicy, but it was enough to make my nose run and my taste buds happy. Big downside with this place was that the rice was just not good — seemed old or off. Also, the house special naan stuffed with chicken was really dry which was a bummer(but I can kinda see why that’d be the case).

Food is good and cheap but during lunch hour, get the lunch special. The butter chicken is good again. Naan is still quite burnt in some places but happy with the good bang for the buck.
