OMG I love this place. When I used to work in Richmond I used to come here all the time for some Indian snacks, specifically tea rich biscuits, some puff pastries and casava chips. Staples that were always in our snack corner at home. I usually shop for my snacks on Main street since that is closer to home, however, when in Rome or in this case… when in an East Indian snack place :)

Delicious samosas, chargha, chaat plate and snacks. I haven’t tried the weekend breakfast yet but if it’s like the rest of their stuff, I;m excited to try it ! It’s a cute little family owned shop. They make everything from scratch and you taste the freshness in the food. My favorite so far has been their samosas ! They’re just like Pakistani samosas … I also ordered their naan once, and that was the only item that has disappointed me so far — too thick and tasted like pizza base.

I was in Richmond and unexpectedly found myself peckish. I saw a handmade sign in the window of a small shop called Zam Zam Snacks stating that they had samosas amongst other tasty treats. I felt this would hit the spot so I opened the door and stepped through. From the moment I entered the shop it smelled amazing and further drew me to the counter to put in my order. I paid a mere 60 cents for my vegetable samosa and waited. I was curious as to why I was waiting, but this gave me the time to look around and observe what exactly was going on. The space itself isn’t that great, but clean and organized. It is a small family run business which obviously caters to their friends and neighbours. The price point on everything was very affordable. I also noticed that every seat in the place was full and every plate was licked clean. Five minutes later my order was ready and I quickly peaked in the bag. Immediately I wished I had ordered a dozen and some naan bread on the side. The samosa was freshly made. I could see spices in the outside pastry which was flaky and light. When I bit into it the filling was moist and there were potatoes, bright green peas, onion and chilli flakes. It was absolutely delicious and the best store bought samosa I’ve ever had. It also came with lovely mango chutney. If I am ever in the neighbourhood I would definitely go back hungry so I can try more.
