My parents, husband and I sat down for dinner at the Sunflower Café in Selkirk, not really knowing what to expect. It’s definitely not fancy, but that is pretty standard for a small village restaurant. I ordered a deluxe cheeseburger with fries and gravy, and my husband ordered wings. My father got a clubhouse sandwich and my mother also went the cheeseburger route, without fries. My burger was exceptional! The flavor was stellar and the beef was nice and thick. The fries were delicious too, and the gravy was thick and very tasty as well. My mom agreed that her burger was amazing as well! My husband’s wings were also great, garnering high praise from him. I would say he is a wing connoisseur, so when he said they were delicious, I knew they were something special. My father enjoyed his clubhouse as well, but what can you really say about a sandwich? :-) If you find yourself driving through Selkirk, stop at the Sunflower. You will enjoy it! I know I will be back again.

After a long night of heavy drinking, live music, bonfires and horny women, we found ourselves waking up with sweaters on our teeth and a thin membrane of hangover funk stuck to our skin. The decision for breakfast was unanimous, so we ventured to «the only diner in town» for brunch. While visually unappealing from the outside(the building could have easily doubled as a carpet store), the cute server made up for it. Too bad she was serving other tables, otherwise I’d have gotten a close up. Sadly, our server had snaggle tooth and bowed legs. Feeling a touch queasy, and not really trusting the place, I ordered simple. The Breakfast Snack seemed acceptable. At $ 3.00, it came with one egg, 3 half slices of toast(wtf did they do with the 4th?) and 2 pieces of bacon. Oh, and a coffee. The rye toast was a touch on the dry and stale side, but that’s ok for rye. The egg was pretty tasty though, and bacon is hard to fuck up. The coffee was pretty tasty, and our homely server was pretty quick to refill. My friend’s omelette looked delicious, and she certainly enjoyed it. The hashbrowns were apparently good, but the homefries looked dry and bland. All in all, I’m really happy for Sunflower Café and it certainly held its own, omelette you finish, but it’s not worth the drive to Selkirk.
