The menu is huge. The portions are huge. The food is amazing! Their bubble tea selection is always fun to try, as they have many options and styles. Love going there for lunch or dinner, just remember to go hungry so you have room for all the food!

Very good service and the food was amazing. Within seconds we were greeted by someone at the door and were quickly seated. Food was prepared fairly quickly. I would definitely be back and do recommend this place to others.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about Sherwood Park’s Sumo Sumo, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I ventured out there for my first visit. It’s hard to trust people’s opinions on sushi because everyone has their favourite dish and not every restaurant will make that dish well. For me, a sushi restaurant that offers light, generously sliced pieces of high quality tuna sashimi will always top the list over another that perhaps specializes in unique rolls. I’m all about that tuna. And, thankfully, Sumo Sumo does it really well. The menu is HUGE – it took us forever to decide on what to order – and they have a great selection of platters and combinations, for those who like to mix things up a little. We tried the small Maki and Sushi Platter between two of us, which had 8 pieces of California Maki, 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, shrimp, and egg, 3 pieces of salmon maki, 3 pieces of tekkamaki(tuna), and 6 pieces of kappamaki(cucumber). We also ordered a coupe of a la carte items on the side to satisfy some cravings(more tuna sushi and a sushi pizza). The service was friendly and efficient and the sushi itself was delicious. The restaurant itself is cozy and perfect for a date night or just dinner with friends and family. The tuna, to my utter delight, was perfect: a nice thick chunk that simply melts in your mouth. Cost-wise, Sumo Sumo sits about mid-range for a sushi restaurant. Dinner for two with a large bottle of hot sake came to about $ 70 total with tip, which is fairly standard. I’d definitely eat here again and look forward to getting my hands(or chopsticks) on some more of that excellent tuna.

UPdate: This is a review of the Sunday Brunch: $ 35 for up to two hours of Japanese goodies. Delicious! Reservations are recommended. They serve brunch from 10am-3pm and this place is packed. Service is a mandatory 15%, and it explains why this Sunday All you can Eat buffet is worth it. The problem with most all you can eat sushi places in Edmonton isn’t their lack of food quality, it’s their lack of SERVICE quality. It’s like they have this idea that«sure it’s all you can eat… but good luck finding somebody to take your next order… like a ninja we shall hide… until you are sick of looking for us and leave… heh heh he» Sumo Sumo has a quick turnaround for repeat orders(7 minutes from order to food coming out) and always easy to find a waiter. Sumo Sumo has a traditional buffet area, and waiter service, so if you do get hungry waiting for your order you can go graze at the buffet. Which, does have assorted maki rolls, gyoza, yakitori etc. No discussion of an AYCE place is complete without loopholes, limitations and errors. 1. 20 pieces of Sashimi per person,(loophole: They don’t care if it’s more than 20 per PERSON as long as the table doesn’t get more than designated. I always bring my Sashimi hating gf, so I get hers too) 2. 3 pieces each of the really good sashimi.(Loophole: You can still order the expensive sushi that has the same pieces on it) 3. 2 hr timelimit. This honestly has never come into play. We always are out under an hour. 5 stars! Pros: Great value Free Parking Good Sushi/Sashimi Cons HORRIBLE Desserts(seriously). Ok not horrible, but it’s those crappy square bar things you always find at horrible dessert places. Hot dishes could be more«hot» they don’t fill pans enough. They should make more small portions, by the time the Gyozas are empty the last few are less dumpling and more soccer ball.

My favourite restaurant in Sherwood Park! The food is fresh, the restaurant I has ample seating without being overly noisy, great portions, wide variety of choices on the menu and the best sushi in the Edmonton area. You HAVE to try the patio in the summer. …their misting system keeps you cool and comfortable. I have often ordered the large combination sushi/maki platter for events and have never been disappointed. Should you want to dine-in, you’ll be warmly greeted, seated quickly and enjoy a fabulous meal. Too many favourites to mention.. udon, bento box, maki cones, dynamite roll, and try the green tea ice cream.. mmmm

So, it has taken me some time to finally write this. I will never, ever return to this establishment. Service was horrible, my companion and I were treated poorly from the moment we walked in the door. We did err on an order, and when they brought us the dish, we both asked if this was what came with the special, as it seemed too much. Waitress brushed it off, and then later proceeded to tell us we screwed up, and they would either remove the plate from our table, or have to charge us for it. With only 1 roll left, we laughed it off and told them to take it back. Guess what was immediately brought to our table afterwards? The same appetizer, but the appropriate size for their«Special of the day». The impression the server left us with was we were trying to scam them, which resulted in us feeling horribly cheap. We(well…my date!) paid, tipped, and left. It is a bit of a shame, as the rolls actually tasted good. It really is a shame they decided to be… snobs? I would highly recommend ANY sushi place over Sumo. Check out Ichiban reviews!

Service is always good. Had lunch there back in November and the food was great! I love their sonomono salad ! We had the toro and salmon sashimi! So fresh!!! And a Bunch of rolls. Also a bottle of hot sake. It was a great lunch. We returned for supper a few days after that… Appetizers were great!!! But the toro was so fishy! It turned me off really quick! How can the toro be so fresh at lunch time a few days back and then on supper time be so freakin fishy ??? Anyway … I really like sumo sumo but this one time for the toro…

I love this sushi restaurant, however the Sunday brunch is unbelievably amazing! There really isn’t anything similar to what Sumo Sumo offers in the city and it’s a bit of a tasting menu of both their regular sushi/sashimi offerings and traditional and fusion Japanese food. One suggestion… take small samples of everything! It’s worth not getting full on maki the first go around!

Walking in, the first thing I notice is the strong smoky grill smell and haze in the air. Not a good sign. Our hostess greeted me and then proceeded to take a phone call and ask the couple behind us if she could help them. I know I’m not invisible because she acknowledged my request for a table and even picked up menus. Anyhow, we are finally seated in their patio space which is actually a 4 season room. The space is quite nice with fountains, big windows and thankfully — away from the smoke. We ordered two chicken yakisoba bowls for the girls, miso soup, gyoza, Aloha, Joe’s special and Samurai rolls. The noodles came quickly and they were huge portions for kids meals. My complaint with these were that they definitely looked like and tasted like the grill/hot plate had not been cleaned properly in between dishes. You know all those bits of thick black char everywhere? Yeah those. Miso soup was standard and so were the gyoza. The gyoza were served with a thick sauce, I think it’s their teriyaki sauce. My husband liked it. The rolls are huge. Which makes up for a lot of the price. However, they did tend to be oversauced — for the rolls with sauce and the rice was poorly cooked, seasoned and even rolled. The rolls were packed much too tightly in some places and falling apart in others. It’s just not what I expect when I go to a sushi joint that comes highly recommended. The flavour combinations themselves were good so points there. Service was spotty. Sometimes good, sometimes non– existent. Forgotten drinks. Only ¼ waters refilled. I don’t know. Nothing special. Overall, I wouldn’t make a special trip back especially since it’s out of my way. I know there aren’t many choices for dining in this part of town so I’d go out of convenience sake if I’m hungry.

YES!!! Finally good sushi! First of all, the décor and ambiance of Sumo Sumo is fantastic, upon walking in I was already impressed. All together though, the feel of the place truly enhanced the dining experience. Not to mention the service was friendly and very hospitable. Onto the food… YUM! The rolls we ordered were absolutely delicious! Especially Joe’s Special Roll… SOGOOD! I would definitely recommend that one if you decide to go. I appreciated the creativity that encompassed their selection of rolls. They offered a lot of inventive rolls, that weren’t too obscure. Of everything I tried so far, my favourite would have to be the Spicy Tempura Maki, words cannot describe how mouth watering delicious it was. So without question, you should add this place to your list of restaurants to try; in fact, you should move this place to the top of your list. I will definitely be a repeat customer, and once you try it, so will you!

Stopped in at Sumo Sumo for impromptu dinner on a Friday night. No reservation had us relegated to the«patio»… Well…patio has a roof, windows and heaters. Impressed allready. Haven’t even been seated yet. Impressive menu. Settled on seafood bento box. Substituted yakiskoba for rice. Cost an extra dollar. Delicious! Crab and cucumber salad. Chicken spring rolls. Gyoza. Salad, soup and ice cream also included. $ 60 bill for myself and wife with one beer and an iced tea. Only minor complaint is that each component of the bento«box» was served seperately, and it was slightly confusing. Great value. So full! We will most deffinitely be back!

I have been here several times already since I moved to Edmonton. I’ve tried the tempora udon soup, which is really really good! Sushi tastes fresh as well. I heard their sunday brunch is good, but never had a chance to try it out. One thing I’m not exactly happy about the place is the bunto box, which ia supposed to be in a «bunto box». I got a mixture of things in a big plate, the presentation of which is a bit disappointing… even at a cheap university cafeteria, they serve bunto box in the real box, I expect the more expensive sumo sumo would do at least the same… for this I give it a 4 star. In addition, I quite enjoy the smell of deep fried fish when walking into the place. The paint in the washroom is hilarious…

My friend and I drove from West Edm to Sherwood Park(yesterday) Tuesday which happens to be Bento Box night for $ 19.75. Each bento box comes with three sides. We both chose Gyoza and tempura. I chose sushi as my third option and he opted with spring rolls. We also ordered a Joe Special roll to start. Five minutes later, an employee came by and delivered a plate of 3 spring rolls. We looked at it and thought, «Huh». We asked her if that was part of the Bento Box to which she replied«Yes, I think so.» We started eating it when our server came by and asked us if we ordered spring rolls. We said no, we were advised by the other employee that it was part of the bento box we ordered. She looked a little stressed and said it was an error and was for another table. We asked her if she wanted to take it back. She said, «No, that’s okay.» and walked away. She came back two minutes and said that if we continued eating the spring rolls she would have to charge us for it. ??? Really? An error made by another employee confirming that it was part of our order and your management wants us to pay for it? By this time there is only one spring roll left. My friend told her to take it away. Now, we’re both a little irked. Then the sides started coming. We confirmed with EVERY small side dish that it was part of our bento box meal. Then his side spring rolls were placed down. They threw away the other spring roll just so that they could deep fry TWO fresh spring rolls to accompany his bento box. How utterly ridiculous. My friend voiced his frustration with the chain of events and the server tried to explain that it was a misunderstanding and that sometimes customers order spring roll appetizers even when they order it as a bento box side. WHOCARES!!! We didn’t! And we even asked for confirmation that it was part of our meal when placed at our table. To make us feel guilty about eating it when it was their error, then try and charge us, and now turning it back to our fault was the last straw. My appetite was ruined and I was done. I told the server to pack our food, get the bill so that I could pay and get the hell out of there. While she was in the back packing up our food, the hostess came by to clean up the rest of the table and voiced how sorry she was that we were unhappy and could she offer us free dessert. «NO. I don’t WANTANYTHINGMORE from this place. I want the food we ordered and I want to leave.» Seriously??? You tried to charge us for spring rolls we didn’t order and you want to pacify me with free dessert? Get real. It’s not about money. I want to clarify that I paid for the food. $ 61 and left $ 10 gratuity. Management most likely forced the server to advise us of the charge for spring rolls if we continued to eat it and it is not her fault. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt.(I’ve been in the service industry; I personally would have taken the hit and paid it myself instead of aggravating my customers because it clearly was not the burden of the customer for internal errors.) As much as I like the rolls at this place, I will NEVER come back here EVER. EVER. I refuse to spend any more of my hard earned money for lack of appreciation of my patronage. Food was good. Customer service and appreciation sucks rocks.

A late lunch on a Monday… A hot day on a sunny patio where the flies moved as slow as the servers. The best part about the lunch was probably the price. Usually lunch bento boxes in the capital region run in the $ 20 range which is highway robbery compared to Vancouver prices but alas this is where I’ve chosen to live. These bento’s were only $ 15. They came with the standard miso soup and salad. You choose your main dish out of a few options: Seafood, Meat Lovers, Sumo Combo, etc… You also got the choice of sushi or tempura on the side. For this price it sounds like great value. In reality the main dishes were basically sukiyaki style veggies with your requested meat on a heaping pile of rice. The miso was watery, the salad was fresh but under dressed, the sushi were 2 massive slices of a roll filled with imitation crab and 1 piece of salmon, and the tempura was badly battered and seriously lacking crispiness. The worst part was that in one of the deep fried pieces of meat on the meat lovers dish I found a hair fried in with the batter once I broke the piece apart. Unfortunately this was the last piece of pork and I realized I may have eaten more of these unwelcome visitors. My advice… don’t eat sushi in Sherwood Park, especially at Sumo Sushi.

Stopped by for lunch. Ordered Crab and Cucumber Salad, Aloha Roll. The food is ok. The décor looks great. BUT the service really killed it. This is my 4th try and i can confidently say that I will never come back! — – 31 Mar, 2014 — – It’s a good alternative to Mikado. I am though not a big fan of their buffet…

Sumo Sumo is by far my FAVOURITE sushi place I have tried in Edmonton and Sherwood Park! The food is always fresh and delicious. Last night was particularly spectacular on the taste buds. I tried the spicy cali rolls, dynamite rolls, spicy tuna tempura maki(YUM), tomago maki, and the avocado mango spring rolls. Perfection! Ingredients in the sushi rolls were supreme, and the spring rolls were warm and crispy with soft, flavourful insides. Still day dreaming about it all the next day! They also have a beautiful enclosed patio

Lots of large portions. We got the seafood dinner bento which was on special for Tuesday. 19 $ from 27 $. It was definitely a good value as there was tons of food. Most of the food was decent; however, there some weird things such as the teriyaki sauce on the beef which tasted very edo-ish. But sushi was satisfying and the volume of food really spoke to my stomach! They also went all out on the internally and externally. This is evident from the time you cross the bridge to the large temple-esque entrance. Internally screams modern Asian-esque design! Service was very quick and good. Very to the point. They answered all question we had quickly. This is service with the goal of getting the job done! 3.5 stars round up for a fun atmosphere.

Best sushi in Edm so far. Nice décor, great atmosphere, and of course good food! Rolls are very well presented and very tasty. Exceptional customer service. I ordered some rolls, but they were too spicy for me, they asked which other ones i would like and replaced them immidiately with another tasty set! Pricey, but very worth it.

Sumo sumo is my Favorite sushi in the whole city! I don’t care where I am if I’m craving sushi this is the only place I come. Amazing outdoor patio complete with water fountains, greenery, tv’s, heaters & even sunscreens by remote control! For all you vegetarians out there you MUST get #72 Vegetable Dragon. Literally the best sushi I have ever tasted! Prices are a little higher than other places for sushi, but the food, service & atmosphere make up for it hands down! Great for groups they take reservations!
