We had the Roastie Vaudoise and the Buttnut Squash. If this restaurant was in my home town I would come here once a week! The food was fantastic and service exceptional.

Great little place. Cozy and quiet, great service. Started with the raclette appy. A sort of cheese fondue with small roast potatoes, pickles, and onion to dip in cheese. Sounds weird but it was delicious! My mum had chicken cordon blue which she loves and it was great! I had the sea scallops which were perfect! I found nine or more scallops in my dish so good! Then we had the dessert trio! Profiteroles, lemon mousse, and a brownie cheesecake! Yum

Quaint little place in Sidney not far from the ferry when you’re coming into town. Quaint town for that matter with free parking! Ordered vegetarian rosti and schnitzel with spatzli and mushroom sauce. The food is divine. Schnitzel is thin piece of meat done perfectly with a delicious mushroom sauce. The spatzl oh my goodness perfectly cooked and then fried so it has crispy bits. Yummiest ever! Service is friendly and quick. We had a lovely window seat to enjoy the view. Definitely worth a trip back!

Absolutely wonderful, truly Swiss cuisine. The French onion soup was to die for, with all of 4 ounces of cheese. The veal and lamb schnitzels were amazing, with very generous portions. The service was attentive and warmly interactive. Pricing was totally in line with the area and the high quality. Definitely the highlight of our trip.

Dinner for two. FOOD: 4.0. — Minestrone soup: 5.0. Outstanding. — Onion soup: 4.0. Filling. — Wiener Schnitzel: 4.0. Plenty of food. — Scalloped Veal: 4.0. Excellent: small sliced veal with mushrooms in a nicely-spiced gravy. The potatoes that came with the two preceding main courses was very good. Dessert looked great, but we didn’t have room for it. WINE(glass): 4.5. Good volume. SERVICE: 4.0. AMBIANCE: 4.5. — Even the customers are kind. When most left(and most seemed to be regulars), they said goodbye to everyone — including us. — A fresh red rose at every table. — Pretty interior, decorated with the symbols of all 26 Swiss cantons, faux alpine windows, and more.

The owners were lovely and the food was incredible. We sat outside on a nice day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Was like being in Europe again.

My wife made a beeline to this place and luckily we were seated outside without reservations. Our waitress was great and took the time to explain the menu to my sons who’s international dinning experience is limited. We all had the schnitzel with spatzel or the rositi sp. Everything was prepared wonderfully and the whole dining experience was fantastic. Intro to Swiss cuisine successful — don’t hesitate to give this place a try you will not be disappointed.

My family ate here while on vacation. Excellent meal for everyone, excellent service, and unlike other restaurants in the area, very fast(Swiss way!). Very nice bread(hard to find in North America in General). I had the legendary pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce which was delicious. The crêpe brûlée with grand mariner is also very good.

This restaurant is under new ownership and it shows. This place was consistently a favourite of my parents’ who live around the corner and have been regulars for years. However, with new owners it’s not the same place so please take the previous glowing reviews with a grain of salt. On their 40th anniversary my parents booked a dinner to celebrate. I called ahead and spoke with the owner and arranged to pay for their dinner(I live in Toronto). I also hoped that they would do something special like send over dessert or some drinks since it was such a huge milestone. I spoke with my mother the next afternoon(they had been for dinner at 7:30 the night before) and when she didn’t mention anything I asked how their bill was taken care of — she said my father paid. Hugely disappointed, I called the restaurant(this is the next day!) and the waitress I spoke with laughed and said, «It was just really busy. They left a note but it got missed!» She barely sounded apologetic and no one offered anything to fix it. I couldn’t believe it — not only did it get missed but they were laughing like it was funny, didn’t offer a single thing to fix it and didn’t call me to tell me so I had to find out from my parents. The owner called me a little while later and said they could put the bill on my credit card(at this point I had already arranged to send the money to my parents to try to make things right). Having worked in the restaurant industry for years, I can’t believe that a) this wasn’t handled properly in the first place — this wasn’t just some birthday dinner, this was a 40th anniversary for people who were regulars and I spent 15 minutes on the day before with the owner to discuss this or that b) someone didn’t call me right away to apologize(first thing in the morning) and to take the entire bill off of my parents credit card in a gesture of good will. Big miss. Big disappointment. Absolutely horrible customer service. Everyone just skip this place.

The very best food on Vancouver Island. My very favourite I the Schnitzel best but have never had a bad meal there. As a front desk attendant at the Bes Western Emerald Isle Plus in Sidney I send all our guest there and they always come back happy and that’s my job.

Great little place. I have eaten here two times now on my way through Sydney. Fantastic food, and a nice quite place to eat with great service. I am German, so there is definitely some sentimental feelings when going here. Everything I have tried on the menu tastes authentic! Very highly recommend to anyone!

We discovered this place by accident last summer, and we’re so happy we did! Coming over on the ferry for first trip to the island, I picked up a little publishers newsletter in the bookshop/gift store onboard. While we were sitting in the car ready to pull off, I noticed an ad for Sidney-by-the-Sea, advertising its abundance of bookshops all within about a 3-block radius. There is nothing to draw us somewhere faster than the mention of books. So we decided to take an excited detour into Sidney on our way to Victoria. What a quaint, wonderful little place! We shopped for books to our hearts’ content, and when we got back to the car it was just about dinner time, and we were pretty hungry. We happened to park right in front of this place, and they had a menu in the window, so we went and looked. It sounded pretty tasty, so we decided to give it a try. When we told the waitress what we were going to order and had her recommend a wine, it melded PERFECTLY. It was prime rib night, so one of us had that and the other had the rack of lamb. But we shared, and exclaimed over all the food. It was amazing! The broccoli cheese soup was also quite tasty. Everything was perfectly prepared and the right temperature, and the prices were not outrageous. The service was attentive, and the chef even came out to say hello to everyone. I believe it’s owned by a family. The father appears to do the cooking and perhaps his two daughters do the greeting and serving. This was one of our best meals on the island, made even more so because it was such a delight to discover the place when we might not have originally. We fell in love with Sidney in general, and I can’t wait to go back!

Bistro Suisse is a quiet and lovely little gem in the heart of quiet and lovely little Sidney. The boy and I planned poorly for breakfast at the Roost(pro tip: don’t show up there at 11am), then came to Sidney and found a huge line at 3rd Street Café before settling on this place right next door… They apparently don’t do breakfast proper on Saturdays, but we were happy enough with our quiche and schnitzel.(According to boyfriend, the additional charge for mushroom gravy to ladle over said schnitzel is worth it.) The service was great, and my only possible complaint would relate to the elevator music in the background. I hope to come back with a bigger appetite for dinner sometime!

I love this place and I’ve visited three times. Once as a random find and a couple more times to bring family who also loved it. There is an older clientele there that comes with anything in Sidney. The service is great which I imagine they appreciate, like anyone. I’ve ordered the same dish over and over and so has my girlfriend. She has the Raclette and I have the Bratwurst. A few more of those and we might try something different.

What a lovely restaurant this was! It had that endearing family owned, small town vibe. Oh wait, I’m pretty sure it was family owned and it is in a small town! I give thanks to the old lady that had a strong french accent and really tanned leathery skin for suggesting this place. Luckily the weather held up for a few hours to allow us to sit on the sidewalk patio. This whole city was very quaint, a place I’d potentially like to retire to one day. As soon as we were seated, the waitress gave us the rendition of the many lunch specials for the day. We had to repeat them to my besties girlfriend because she was away at the time. We basically butchered them, only to realize later that they were written on a white board attached to the window! For our starters we shared the crab cakes and the bacon wrapped scallops. Both were very tasty and came with a fresh side salad with a superb dressing. For my main, I ordered the Bratwurst and rosti. It came with a super tender pork sausage that was filled with herbs a side red cabbage, sauerkraut and a huge potatoe pancake(which I’m guessing is the rosti). The meal was very good, enjoyable and satisfying and gave me a glimpse of Swiss cuisine. Our server was very nice and quite the entertainer, you could tell she really enjoys her trade and interacting with customers. I’ll definitely pop over again next time I’m on the island. St3Fin

Lovely little gem, tucked into mid-Beacon Avenue, in Sidney by the Sea… Often, I just miss the 5 p.m. sailing back to Salt Spring, & Sidney is only about 7 minutes from the ferry terminal… so, you guessed it, more grazing my way through life. One cloudy & cool evening, I decided to try the Bistro Suisse… very pleasing experience. They were busy, and it was only a Tuesday… good sign. Pleasant wait staff, tucked me into an available table, enjoyed a lovely sole as main course, and the hum of happy diners, round me, was nice to see. Not easy days to be in the restaurant business, and I can heartily recommend this one, if you find yourself in Sidney. Lots of time for me to catch the 7 p.m. ferry back to Salt Spring, & I went totally soothed!

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner Bistro Suisse. The butternut squash per a soup was incredible! The prices were reasonable and in line for quality food and service. The waitress was very informative and attentive(she mentioned that she was the owner’s sister). The turkey was perfectly moist, with wonderful stuffing. The presence of a little blue cheese in the mashed potatoes was a flavorful touch! I also appreciated the selection and good prices on the wines, we didn’t feel so ripped off like usual with inflated wine prices. We boat into Sidney from La Conner and had always been curious about Bistro Suisse but had never had the occasion to stop for dinner. Now we will definitely go back(would love to try their Rouladen sometime). When in Sidney give Bistro Suisse a try. You will not be disappointed! — MV Sea Buggy
