The service here is good, and the choice of toppings excellent, but I just really don’t like their frozen yogurt. It doesn’t taste like realy frozen yogurt, but rather overly sweet, fake stuff(I don’t know if it’s not real froyo, but it doesn’t taste like it).

You know how all those townies fly up to Halifax to check out shopping that they can’t find at home? Well, I’m about to become the same thing in reverse — flying to St. John’s to get my sweet fro-yo on at Menchie’s. Without a fro-yo bar in Halifax, getting to pile on toppings sky-high at Menchie’s was a hella treat. I don’t love many desserts but a nice cup of vanilla with chunks of all my favourite chocolate bars and peanut butter sauce was just about perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful and the process of loading up was pretty easy to follow. I’ve heard there’s sometimes a wait as they keep the number of customers controlled so that it’s never too crowded inside. We walked right in though, just keep it in mind.

After hearing about this place from a few coworkers and friends, my wife and I decided to go check it out. We went on a Wednesday night, and showed up around 9:30. We were greeted with a line going out the door. We decided to stick around, and were surprised with how quickly the line moved. While standing in line, a staff member came around to explain the setup and prices($ 0.55/oz). It would have been good if they offered samples of various flavours to people in the line, so that it would be quicker when you get to the actual yogurt stations, but getting the yogurt went quickly, even with grabbing samples. There are(if I remember correctly) 7 flavour stations, each offering two flavours(14 flavours are offered at a time) either seperately, or swirled together. There are close to 100 total flavours, so they rotate them out fairly often. After you get the yogurt, it’s on to the toppings. I didn’t count the toppings, but there were a lot. They have various cereals(Reese Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cap’n Crunch), gummy candies, brownies, fresh fruit, and a couple of sauces(chocolate, caramel) Again, I think the topping rotate fairly frequently. Overall, I was impressed with the selection and service, and the yogurt was good(even if I was a little eclectic with my flavours and toppings). However, what set the store apart was the service that came after my purchase. After I got home, I realized I had been given the wrong change(I gave a $ 20, and was given change for a $ 10). I called just before the store closed, and Brad(not sure if it was the owner or a manager that happened to have the same name) told me that he’d look into it, and to give him a call back on Friday. I called Friday, and he hadn’t had a chance to look at the security tapes, but did so while I was on the phone with him. Once he realized that I hadn’t been given back the correct change, he offered me either a free yogurt coupon or my $ 10 back. I opted for my money back, and he had it waiting for me when I showed up later that night. My wife and I will most definitely be back, and have been telling everyone we know to try it out.
