I come for lunch every time I visit NL. The cod au gratin is excellent and it’s not something I’ve seen on any other menu. This time was just as good as every other time– Lovely large, fresh chunks of cod in a creamy white sauce with a nice cheesy topping baked to golden perfection. I had this with the strawberry salad. My lunch companion(a very fussy older lady) had the fish and chips and raved about how fresh the cod was. Both meals came with garlic bread which was unnecessary but a nice little bonus. We were both very satisfied.

I have heard many great things about this place & read a couple crummy reviews from some obviously misled folks. First off, great location, wonderful atmosphere, great staff & most importantly… awesome food! I had a panini & spinach strawberry salad and the sandwich was perfectly made & the salad was one of the best I have ever had! I will be making this my go to lunch place & I can’t wait to try their dinner menu! Did I mention this is one of the nicest looking places in St. Johns? And the food is great, I want to go back right now for takeout but I’m at the airport!

The Press & Bean is a bit of a strange phenomenon for me. It’s one of the go-to recommendations for a good feed with two locations: one off the Torbay Road, and this one in downtown St. John’s. They share the same menu of sandwiches, soups, wraps, and chowder but ultimately could not be more different. This P&B is strangely swank. Once you pop down the main stair case, you’ll find yourself in what feels like either a cocktail lounge or a $ 40 a plate bistro when in fact, the P&B is decidedly neither. Not that it’s a bad thing, but it’s a bit jarring to find yourself ordering $ 12 sammie and soup combos in this sort of atmosphere.

— food good, atmosphere is good as well. Can be a bit pricey but they have great combs(soup/wrap or salad/wrap) :) :) :)

I’d classify this as near the bottom-end of the middle-of-the-road upscale places in the city. The lunch paninis are decent but it’s not a great place for dinner(the food’s forgettable). That being said, it is a little cheaper than other middle-of-the-road spots so if that’s a bigger concern, you may enjoy it more than I.

Decent place for a meal. They have a nice setup to deal with the lunch crowd. Something for everyone. It wasn’t the lunch hour when we went, so we missed the usual crowd. Perhaps this is why the waiter decided not to write down our order. I have a theory: anything more than 3 things and you need a list, or you will forget something. I was right! Food was tasty and served quickly.

Food was okay, service slow. The new venue is quite a downgrade and takes significantly away from the experience.
