Had dinner at Oliver’s tonight and it was excellent. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy. Perfect for a first date or birthday celebration. They have a extensive list of wines and their menu is local. We started off with the chowder and mussels. The chowder had dill which elevated the flavour and the mussels were fresh. We then had pan fried cod and the seafood platter. The seafood platter had a great selection of shrimp, scallops, salmon, cod and cod tongue. Everything was seasoned well and very fresh. The service was also very prompt, friendly and warm. A lovely restaurant in downtown St. John’s! I would definitely recommend a reservation to ensure that you have a table.

I’ve been here a few times for lunch, dinner as well as brunch. Never disappoints! Service is fast and friendly, food is excellent with healthy portions and there’s a good selection of beverages available. It is a small location so I recommend getting a reservation in advance — well worth it!

I’ve heard many good things about Oliver’s and I almost wish I went during supper hours but alas I went during brunch. The inside is pretty nice. Small with a cool wine rack and thousands of corks on top but the food was laughable. I ordered the eggs Benedict which were spoiled by them adding super mushy and salty tomatoes in the middle. A weak amount if hash browns and like 3 pieces of fruit left me rather unsatisfied. Myself and my friend decided to split a side of toutons, thinking at the price of $ 12 we would get more than two but we were wrong. After being presented with two childishly fried toutons I whispered to myself I’ll never come back here… Totally disappointed in the brunch. Perhaps I’ll go back to try the supper menu but for the brunch. 0% chance. The only reason for two stars is due to food service!

Pretty good! We came for a late lunch while starving so the wait was kind of unbearable but under normal circumstances service was great. Would definitely come back for dinner.

Nice ambiance, service and certainly good food but had to go with three stars based on value. not sure where the $$ rating is coming from. We cashed out at something like $ 130+ for 2 with cheap wine and yes a very nicely prepared scallop appetizer.

Great interior. best enjoyed with no kids and one can savor the fine food. Our table had the steak which came with asparagus sautéed mushrooms and zucchini. Also seafood fettuccine which was amazing. Not too heavy but generous portions of scallops and shrimp.

This was the best food I have had so far in Newfoundland The special was great from the appetizer to the main course and the pudding. The waiter was very nice and good looking too. The atmosphere was very romantic. All together we had the best experience . The prices are very reasonable. If you are in town definitely visit this amazing spot.

Great little restaurant! The dinner food was delicious, the portions were fair size and the service was great(by our waiter Leam). I highly recommend this place! I was there with three others who also thoroughly enjoyed what Oliver’s had to offer. I highly recommend the balsamic chicken and prosciutto fettucini as well as the carrot cake(not on the main menu). To top it off, everything is made in house. Make reservations to secure a spot. Wandered in for breakfast my first morning in St John’s, had the Banana French Toast, blew my mind. Richest, tastiest French toast I’ve probably ever had. First time in I can’t even remember how long that I physically could not finish a plate at a restaurant. Great service, very clean facilities. The space was a bit dark even on a sunny morning, but I’m sure it’d be beautiful in the evening. Great experience!

2nd time going to Oliver’s and it was awesome! They had gluten free bread this time and were able to make lobster gluten free eggs benedict for me. Portion was massive and the service was terrific. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their food as well, although the French toast was apparently pretty sweet. Will be going back for sure!

We had the experience of having a group business dinner here for the evening. In our party it was 8 so we got to see a diversity of different items ordered from the menu. For me I had the Seafood chowder as an app. Very nicely done! For the main course I chose the Seafood platter! What came out was a fisherman’s assortment of cod, shrimp, mussels and salmon with baby potatoes and asparagus. A few other people in our party ordered this some others but many ordered the steak which looked very nicely done! The servers were very attentive and made sure they kept the beer and wine plentiful so cheer was had by all! Only complaint is the seating is a bit tight and somewhat uncomfortable in the restaurant. Otherwise a fantastic meal!

We came across Oliver’s while exploring downtown St. John’s one morning. After discovering that our first choice brunch destination was closed, we decided to see what Oliver’s had on offer. We ended up trying the Bananas Foster French Toast and the Fish Cake and Eggs. The french toast was basically dessert for breakfast, but was very tasty none the less. The cod cake and eggs was a little less impressive, but still enjoyable. The nicely done eggs and fish cakes were let down by uninspired potatoes and fruit, which came across as a bit of an after thought on the plate. All said, if we make it back to St. John’s, Oliver’s will be on our list of restaurants to go to(maybe for dinner next time), but I’m not sure it will be on the top of the list. A solid 3.5 stars for the food(rounded up because the french toast really was yummy), and 4.5 stars for the very helpful and friendly staff and the bill that left us fairly happy at the end of the meal.

Not bad. I usually rate a place on its crab cakes. Sorry. Not really a contender. But Lamb as the main was pretty good.

Good atmosphere — decent food. However, they slightly overcooked the filet mignon and this was after messing up the order and me having to send it back. Watiress was great and charged me for the lower priced item and covered the dessert. However waiting 15min+ for the proper entrée was less than amusing, while everyone else ate. :) :) :)

* One of the better values in fine dining in St. John’s. * Comfortable and cozy atmosphere with attentive staff. * Bourbon chicken with risotto or butter poached potatoes is a personal favourite. * Great dessert and appetizer selection.

When I’m in a good mood I’d describe this place as cozy. Overall, I think it’s the best of the middle-of-the-road upscale joints around town. The atmosphere is nice and the food’s good.

relocating to St. John’s and love Oliver’s. Tuck into a cozy booth, have a nice glass of wine and fantastic food. The balsamic chicken was fabu.
