Nice hip little eatery under the old restaraunt. Have eaten here a few times and have always really enjoyed it. Whether with the whole family or just my wife, it’s always well worth our money.

I was craving a chill nice dinner + live music type of night while being outside the downtown core and immediately thought of Bistro72. This time around, we chose different entrées, the steak in pepper sauce and fries, and for my dining partner, the chicken with brie wrapped in prosciutto. The complementary fries came about again and it was better than I remembered — nothing beats fresh warm chips. I wasn’t expecting much from a less than $ 20 steak dish(I’ve had some subpar over $ 30 steak downtown before), but boy was I surprised. The steak was moist, made medium rare like I ordered and tasted like it was fresh off the grill. I had a nibble of the chicken and it was the moistest piece of chicken I’ve ever had. The melting brie and the prosciutto were perfect combination. My dining partner usually lets me eat off his plate because he’s a gentleman, but this time he limited my nibbling to one bite because he didn’t want to share his amazing chicken. I had to fight myself to NOT order a second steak so I wouldn’t be a title character for the unwritten novel of One Woman, Two Steaks. Music this time around was from a very lively and well-tuned crooner/whistling singer. He was very interactive and I wished I had gotten his name or music page because I chair-danced to his music all evening. Oh Bistro72, you are a gem, I’ll be back very soon!

The restaurant looked fairly quaint. It looked liked an old house on the outside with a basement/ground level suite turned into a restaurant. Which is not that bad. I think it adds character to the place. I liked the textured white wall paper, light fixtures and wall décor. The dining hall is pretty tight on space. The ceiling hang low and tables were less than a couple feet from each other. So you pretty much hear the conversation of the neighbouring tables. Washroom was a bit of a disappointment. It looked very cheap and far from the dining area’s theme. We arrived around 7pm on a Friday. There was musician playing an acoustic guitar in the corner beside the bar. Lighting was very dimly lit. There were only two servers working the tables. We were asked for our drinks about 10 mins after being seated. We ordered the scallops and the seared tuna. My wife noticed that the table beside had a serving of potato chips, which she read, in an online review of the restaurant, were complimentary. She flagged the male server and asked for our chips. A few minutes later the scallops and tuna arrived, but without the chips. The portions were rather small. The four medium sized scallops were cooked just enough but the sauce was a bit over seasoned and the scallops themselves did not taste fresh. We had better luck with the tuna. I liked the sauce but would have preferred if it was less seared. We saw the male server chatting with the performer’s friend, so we asked the other server for our chips that were promised but were not yet served even after the main courses have arrived. She acknowledged(without any apology) and left. We finished our meals and the chips never arrived. We asked for our bill and the same server who was supposed to bring the chips never said anything about them. Was our meal worth the price? Not really. Quality was not really there. And we were still hungry after leaving the restaurant. Service was horrible. Being understaffed is not an excuse to forget to be courteous to the restaurant patrons. Would I return or recommend the restaurant. I’d rather not.

The place is very cute and cozy. There was live music playing which was great, not to loud so you could still have a conversation. I had a red wine flight, you can never go wrong with wine. We started with the scallops which were amazing. My fiancé had the lamb and I had the veal wrapped in puff pastry. Both had the same sauce on them which we found strange, lazy on the Chef’s part really. And the food was quite bland unfortunately as it sounded great on the menu…

Went here on a Saturday night. The place was packed! Considering there are only had ten tables. There was a live musician playing. The music was a nice touch, but really loud. So loud we could hardly hear each other have a conversation. We were greeted with a warm bowl of complimentary chips. The meal was whatever, what you see is what you get. I’d like to try it once more. Hopefully on a night their kitchen is stocked with pork. Few items we were set on ordering where sold out for the night.

We held a private party at Bistro72 during the weekend and we were totally blown away with the ambience, the food, and the service provided by Bistro72. Philip(the owner) was the perfect host and catered any and every request no matter whether it was small or big. He has managed to bring a little bit of Yaletown into Surrey! He also accommodated our request to create a dance floor. I would recommend this hip space to anyone who is looking for a good night out; with live music, good food\drinks and great service. Kudos to Bistro72!

We read about the Old Surrey creating a hip space downstairs, and we had to try it. It’s brand new and nicely decorated, so it has that nice«new place» fresh smell. We were intrigued by the micro beer menu, although I’m interested in trying some of the international choices they have as well. We shared a lot of different seafood choices, and a really yummy beet salad. The breaded and fried oysters were amazing, the scallops were perfectly cooked and finished with a really nice cream sauce. Husband thought the ahi tuna was the best he ever had.(I tasted it, and had better in an amazing place in New Mexico, but they were pretty darned amazing) The place was busy, and for the most part the wait staff handled the rush. I like how different it is from«upstairs». Really smart plating and choices. I like the idea of beer and wine flights as well.

At the suggestion of our fellow North Deltians, we headed to Bistro 72 after reading about the beer menu. We were totally surprised when we headed down the stairs to the double french door entrance and walk in to a very hip room. Tables were cozy, décor was fresh, and the live music was just the right volume. Our patron Bistro Joe was fabulous… the beer selection really was worthy and the food divine… Fresh tapenade awesome, short bbq ribs mouth watering, scallops scrumptous… fish of the day just ok, although it was paired withnthe wrong beverage… Wine would have been better. The wine menu was all BC selection, however it was a beer night for us. This ismthe kind of place you don’t want to tell people about because you want to hoard it to yourself. Congrats to the owner and chef!!! This place is a hidden gem What a fun night…
