Bogy’s Gastropub

After living in the area for 3 years, my wife and I visited this place for a late night snack.
To be clear, we weren’t expecting a premium experience but we still managed to be disappointed.
Wings were a steal at $ 3/​lb but very fatty and the salt & pepper seasoning we chose was barely there. When we offered our feedback to the server, her response was «I haven’t tried them» followed by «at least they’re only $ 3.» Not sure what her response would be had we come on a day they weren’t on special.
Nachos were average at best — overpriced given the quality we got. The pool of oil they sat in didn’t help and somehow the diced peppers on them didn’t quite work.
Atmosphere was dated, even smelled old.
Don’t think we’ll be back but if they ever kick things up a notch maybe we’ll give it another try.

This used to be MVPs Sports Bar, later it changed owners and became Mavericks. It is now called Bogies gastropub. I expected major visual changes with the new branding. It looks a little better than before. It may just be due to them covering the walls and ceiling with autographed sports posters. It has a bit of a younger feel to it now. More of a 20-​somethings crowd.
I ordered the 1-​piece halibut and chips ($ 11). Made sure to verify the portion size with the server. She said it was a huge slab of fish. I was optimistic… then let down. The halibut portion was pretty small, it did taste good though. the fries on the other hand were heaping and delicious! There was also a small portion of coleslaw included. It was very heavy and peppery. I think the batch of fish wasn’t their best. I was greeted by a terrible stomach-​ache later that night. I was not alone in this ailment as my brother also ordered the fish and suffered the same fate. My friend arrived before us and ordered a beer which arrived warm. To correct this the server brought him a bucket of ice to chill the bottle and added a complimentary drink.
I know this sounds like a terrible review and I’m just some cranky guy, but there is a positive note. The service was excellent. The girls were super friendly, and checked on our table frequently. I will say it was some of the best service I ever received in a pub. Will i go back? At least once. I always give a restaurant a second chance. everyone has an off day sometimes.
