Service is awful!!! We were all appalled how the service is terrible. Never ever going back— we left before ordering & went straight to Tasty Bistro Indian restaurant where the service was impeccable from start to finish!

These guys have the best on location catering, but the restaurant is OK. If you’re here for butter chicken, skip it. I would actually skip the whole buffet and order off the menu. They are more known for their appies etc than entrees. Décor wise, this is typical Surrey Indian restaurant. Everyone I’ve been there, its been so cold that I was shivering and couldn’t wait to get out. Buffet, decent. I’d rather order off the menu. Spinach naans and tikkis are probably the best you’ll have, especially if you have them cater on the spot.

Loved the chicken tikka masala and the best garlic naan ever! Mediocre décor but good food and service for dinner

Well let’s starting from the beginning. Me and my family came here for lunch on Saturday afternoon. We were seated at a large table, with no lighting above us. It was so dark. Yes it was daytime but if you’re not seated by windows or the front, this place is dark. So the most important thing… THEFOOD… I’ve had better. I’ve never had butter chicken this watery/thin anywhere, my entire life. The chicken was cooked well but the pieces were a very small cut. I also did not like the color. I may be picky, but butter chicken should have a certain presentation and taste. This was a sub par butter chicken. The fish pakoray were good, but again, I’ve had better. The batter around the fish should be flavorful, not resemble batter from fish and chips! lol The dessert was good. It’s hard to mess up galab jaman! The naan was good too, but again it’s hard to mess that up isn’t it? Though the stuffed naan left alot to be desired. I’ve had better stuffed naan at reception halls! Sorry Maharaja… you have to step up your game.

The glowing reviews for this place must be made by family and friends. Tasteless mediocre food at the lunch buffet. How can this place be compared to VIJ? I have been to VIJ’s and this place ISNOTEVENCLOSE. I will not be back and do not recommend. Food was not warm. Goat curry was tasteless. Bread was freshl made and was just ok. I hate it when reviews are stacked leading me to try a place only to be disappointed

If you like East Indian food and are in Surrey this is one of the best places you can find. There is one catch… after you have eaten here it will be chalanging to find a place that measures up. The service, the flavors, everything was top notch.

The food is delicious, not just by buffet standards, but by any restaurant standards. The buffet had perhaps 4 – 5 entrees, including goat curry, a chicken curry, and some vegetarian ones. It had an assortment of chutneys and pickles and a couple of desserts. In terms of choices for a buffet, it is small, but the cook(s) is/are amazing with each of the entrees, with the perfect spice mixes. This place is a gem, especially for $ 12/person. Awesome.

A few of us decided to go to the restaurant and have a sit down appetizer after doing some shopping. I am in love with this place each item that we ordered had such unique flavors. To start we had chaat and golh guppah. Then we decided to get some samosas. For desert we had some gulab jamun and tea. We told the manager how much we enjoyed the food and we would be back. The only negative was when we asked for the bill and the waitress just stood there until we pulled out our money to give to her. Finally I had to say to her can you give us a moment. She still just took one step back and stood at the table. She took our money to the manager and he short changed us when returning it. We didn’t say anything because we enjoyed our food. Other than that food is awesome but waitresses need some more customer service experience.

One the best Indian food in Surrey for catering. Exceptional quality and very good value for money. I ordered Paneer Kadai, Chicken Tikka Masaala, Spinach Paneer Naan and Chaat for a party at my home and all guests were amazed with their good food.

The lunch buffet here is fresh, lots of selection, and delicious. Possibly the best Indian buffet I have ever had. The place is FULL of people as well, and has high turn over which of course makes a buffet way more appealing. The service was good too, he kept asking me if I wanted more naan but that was not physically possible. Come hungry!

Great deal for the buffet. The food was delicious. Loved the butter chicken, tinda masala and lamb vindaloo. Naan is provided on request which was warm and crispy, served just as I like it. Although the host seated us right away, getting service was difficult. There were no wait staff that came by our table, we had chased them down to ask about the buffet and for naan. Knocked off one star for the lack of service.

Arguably, this restaurant may be the new benchmark for Indian food in the greater Vancouver area. In addition to menu items, they do offer a buffet for $ 11 per person and there are *not* 50 items on the menu so rest assured the effort is going into the quality of the dozen or so hot items, not into just quantity. The heart of this business is catering so they focus on word-of-mouth for their product, which is simply making good food for weddings and events. The owner and wait staff were very helpful and friendly. The owner let us know that the food is prepared fresh every day and that you cannot hide the quality of your food behind spice, firstly your food has to be good and then spice is to be used as an accent. I particularly enjoyed the curried goat, butter chicken and the paneer but everything was tasty. The hot naan was fresh and delicious and they even brought us out an order garlic naan which was terrific as well. Complimenting the meal were salads, chutneys, garnishes and also two choices for desert. BTW, their kitchen is over 6,000 square feet! Our new favourite Indian restaurant. We hope to go back often and look forward to them extending to evening hours — not just lunch.

Quick tips: 1) This place is a little bit hard to find as it’s in a generic, large mini-mall near the back, but the food is worth it 2) The food is set out as a buffet, but if you know of something that isn’t out, they can probably provide it if you ask(i.e. garlic naan, aloo tiki, etc). I moved to the lower mainland just a few months ago and am always on the look for new good eats. A good friend of mine has lived in the lower mainland for about 8 years, and absolutely loves good food. He told me, as soon as I moved back, he was going to take me to Maharaja. I was assured it was good as Maharaja is normally a catering company for high end East Indian weddings. Sure enough, after only a month of being back, I went to Maharaja and have gone back several times since. This is one of the best East Indian restaurants in the lower mainland for your money and just for taste. Period. Unfortunately, they are only open for lunch(no dinners), but it is worth traveling during a lunch break or on the weekend to get there. To give you an idea, I’ve gone twice at 11:30am when they open. Both times there have been at least 4 car loads of people waiting to get in as soon as the doors open. I almost always take this as a good sign. Inside the décor is very plain and simple — pretty much bare minimum or some tables and banquettes(no pictures, plants, etc.). Since my first visit, there have been continual renovations and updates to the décor, making it appear a lot more open and clean than it originally looked. Since the restaurant is buffet style, you come into the restaurant, find any open table, place down your stuff and go right to the back to the restaurant to get your food. At the back you’ll find your cutlery, plates and the wonderful, wonderful food. To start, there are some salads 1 or 2, several Indian dips(yogurt, curry, habenero, mint, chutneys, etc), along with several garnishes/toppers(i.e. green onion, pickled lemon, etc). Then… there’s the hot food. There are between 10 – 12 hot dishes, with the majority of the dishes(~8) are vegetarian based, but that should not turn you off in the least. Maharaja is plentiful with spices and flavours, but not to the point that it ever becomes overbearing or inedible. All the standards that you would expect at an Indian restaurant are regulars on the buffet: butter chicken, palak paneer, lamb vindaloo, etc. along with many others that rotate from day to day. When you sit down a server will bring you naan, but you can ask for garlic naan, roti bread, or others if you’d like for no cost. To add to this you can find a dessert table too for after you’ve overstuffed yourself(which I’m sure you will as it’s A) a buffet for $ 11 B) it’s damn tasty). You’ll find items like laddu, jalebi, fruit and more. If you feel so inclined, there is a sweet shop attached to the restaurant where you can take some of the sweet treats home for later. If you like good East Indian food, this is a place to go out of your way for. This is my go to place for a great East Indian lunch.

One of my friends always has great recommendations when it comes to restaurants. When he asked my fiancé and I to drive out to Surrey for«the best Indian food he’s ever had» we knew we were in for a treat. Maharaja Catering is not just a catering place, they also have a restaurant. It’s a bit tricky to find since it’s in a huge shopping complex, but it’s located on the far right corner and has a huge sign. It opens at 11:30am, and when we arrived at 11:20am there was already a line outside. I can’t remember what exact time they close, but I’d recommend going for lunch just in case. The restaurant is full of booths and tables, and has a very nice and clean atmosphere. You can order off of the menu, but I highly, highly recommend the buffet. There’s a reason they specialize in catering Indian food, because it’s all fantastic. I was able to sample so much food, and try some things I would have never ordered off of a menu, such as goat. You can also order naan and many other goodies on the side. I was so full after my meal, I couldn’t even eat until the next day! Next door is a sweets shop operated by the same owners, so if you’re craving any authentic Indian desserts definitely check it out. If you’re in Surrey and want some of the best Indian food you’ll ever have, definitely check this place out.
