The Original Michigan Diner

I went there with my family of 8 to celebrate my Dad’s 90^th birthday. This is where he wanted to go. I had the halibut fish n chips and it was very good. Not overly battered and cooked just right along with fries and coleslaw. Everyone else at my table enjoyed their meal. The prices are good. The service was quick and good. When I score it average I mean just right for what it is.

I’ll be the first to admit, I have a strong preference for foreign cuisine (just look at the bulk of my positive reviews — 80% of them are for restaurants from other cultures). Unless you’re taking a unique approach to the North American style of food preparation, I’m not really all that interested in what you have to offer.
But, every now and again, I get in the mood for what I like to call «white people food». When I do, I go to Michigan Diner.
They just do everything right, there. The food is always well-​prepared, comes in big portions and is brought out promptly. There’s even a good diversity of taste between all the dishes (one of the biggest problems with white people food — it all tends to taste the same). The service is also excellent. The waitstaff are there to do a good job and are always super-​friendly and helpful.
Even the price-​point is excellent. An appetizer, single course, non-​alcoholic beverage and decent tip usually comes to around $ 25. And you walk away from that meal feeling fuller than full. No skimping on the fries or making that app as tiny as possible for the heftiest of prices (tricks «white people restaurants» love to play over and over).
I must admit, I grew a bit concerned when they started opening more locations. This is usually where a good local restaurant starts cutting corners. But I’ve eaten at the new places and find no real difference with the quality of anything. No matter where you go — this is still the best white people food you will find.
While their burgers aren’t «gourmet», they are still amazing. And their broasted chicken is probably some of the best I’ve ever tasted.

Had dinner the other night with friends, 5 of us. I personally had the clubhouse and it was great, better than the one I had the other day at Coney Island. Large portions and reasonably priced. The wait staff was exceptional, very friendly and whatever we needed without having to ask. Will recommend to everyone. Much better than ESM.

Large portions for the price. The only reason for the four stars is the service. It want very friendly and I had to ask for everything. But would still recommend it.
