Came in for a quick hot chocolate with the kids, but ended up with amazing coffee, friendly service, and a décor hinting of «the good old days.» Unpretentious, simple, and focus on good quality food, and excellent neighbourly service.

Love this place. It’s an awesome family-run establishment that has really never disappointed me. Agree with a lot of the reviews here about the food. I think the problem is with a lot of the independent coffee shops/hipster joints in the immediate area, is that the staff are pretty snooty and food is overpriced. This is the spot for everyone else! Come here, pay 10 – 12 bucks for a decent portion and get a coffee that’s actually good.

I don’t know what the rest of the food is like, but the veal sandwiches are to die for. I’ve been eating them for years(long before the moved from across the street), and was introduced to the place by my Portuguese in-laws. The veal sandwiches go best with a nice cold beer. Hands down, they also have the best coffee. I typically grab some fresh grinds to take home. I brew it up in a percolator andI serve it to friends, and if you’ve ever seen the movie«Pulp Fiction», and remember the conversation about coffee, this pretty much sums up the experience when they taste it. As for dining in at the restaurant, I can’t comment because I’ve only done pickup. Enjoy! Joe

I have never been this entertained by someone’s eyebrows like this in my life. On our first stop of our Saturday morning Bellwoods/Dundas coffee crawl, we encountered the most enthusiastic barista. This guy was epic and his rubber face and wacky facial expressions provided me with the laughter I needed to start my morning off right. That and of course Danielle P.‘s discovery that caramel macchiatos from Starbucks are not the flavour prototype for all macchiatos! Hubby and I got small lattes, which Mr. eyebrows graciously offered to serve to our table when they were done. It was good. Aesthetically, this place needs a bit of work. It looks like it should be a butcher shop. I didn’t find the vibe particularly cozy or inviting. On our way out Kat F. offered me a piece of the rice ball she bought on the way out. This thing was magical and solidified my struggle to pick between 2 and 3 stars. Beware though… the rice ball has meat in it(poor Kat…)

I hate the food here. It’s like a cafeteria. I like the big seats and during a busy lunch time you sit with strangers and that is kinda fun. Everyone seems to know everyone, so that is kinda fun too. You can get a run of the mill tuna sandwich for cheap. So if you don’t want to spend 10 dollars on a tuna melt from saving grace then this is the place for you.

Ditto everything Sam G. said about the food, and want to add that my in-laws constantly rave about the veal sandwich. Also want to mention the coffee is really wonderful. Best latte in Queen West(and goodness knows there’s a lot of competition). It’s a great neighborhood spot, with lots of cab drivers, families with kids, older Portuguese gentlemen watching football. It’s family-run and the family and the whole staff are lovely. They have a high chair and super clean bathrooms(though no changing table).

Well, I just came back from Caffe Brasiliano and one thing is for sure… I’m not hungry. As was mentioned in the previous review, it is sort of cafeteria style setting where I’d guess most folks order a «plate»… a main item plus three sides. Today, I got filet of sole(breaded and pan fried, I think?) with rice, spaghetti and carrots. Other sides available included beans and salad. Other main items available included roast chicken, cannelonni(sp?), chili. I got a pretty big piece of fish plus enough sides to fill at least two people. Quality is better than the«cafeteria» style suggests, but not gourmet in the least, just good home-cooking. My bill was $ 9.00(tax included, no tip necessary) plus $ 1.25 for a diet pepsi. This was for dinner, lunch may be less expensive. Bottom line — if you are looking to be well-fed, quickly and inexpensively Caffe Brasiliano is definitely worth considering. I’d give it 3.5 stars if I could.

This is where the cabbies and cops are to be found in this neighbourhood, and with good reason! Food is plentiful and inexpensive. It seems to be all about family here, whether it is your flesh-and-blood family, or your«urban» family. This is a place you can take your kids and feed them well, and not worry about it. It reminds me of a cafeteria, but it’s like the anti-cafeteria because it’s actually quite good. There are usually a couple of specials per day, then many side dishes on top of that. The serving staff asks«Are you sure?» when you say«If you put any more on that plate I *will* explode!» It’s surprisingly good for the price. I’ve eaten lots worse. It’s also an excellent coffee shop! Easily, the earliest-opening coffee shop on the block. The shock I experienced at a place being open in this neighbourhood before 10am! Plenty of people stopping by for their actual real espresso fix before heading off to work. It’s good quality, and you can buy the beans if you are a super-fan. The windows along the side of the building are garage-door style and are almost always open in the summer. Sit on a stool with your well-made coffee and watch the people go by. And remember, share your table! The booths are huge, and you might make a new friend. Not open on Sundays. Pity.
