This bakery is one if the few left that makes the smaller sized versions of the traditional HK baked goods that you see everywhere. There used to be more but this is the only one in the area that I know that still make them miniature sized… including hot dog, pineapple, tuna, BBQ pork and even mini egg tarts! There is no English signage but the literal translation is «Big Dragon Phoenix». Quality is good but starting at 3 buns for $ 1 its really good value. The more expensive ones are usually 2 for $ 1 or 5 for $ 2… You get the point. However what stands out for me is not the HK style brown coloured buns, but if you look at the cashier table they have some of the best traditional«white» home style buns made with pork and vegetable, BBQ pork and sweet black bean bun. The best thing is turnover is high on these buns and they are more often then not freshly made and still warm. Another hided gem is the triangular fried taro cakes they have beside the white buns. I don’t know anywhere else that serves this item. Not a big fan of their tea or coffee so usually just go for the buns. If there were half stars allowed I would give it 3.5 as the white buns and taro cakes pushes them up a notch. Overall excellent value on buns!

Well, it’s not the best bakery and if you are looking for high quality baked goods, then this isn’t the place. This is a place that serves decent baked buns for a very reasonable price as a lot of the sweet buns are 3 for $ 1.00, the meat ones are 2 for $ 1.00 and tarts are similarly priced. If you want a quick snack or have family and friends coming over and like Chinese buns, I suggest buying like 20 or so buns and they’ll all be so happy. Verdict: Good for cheap, decent tasting hot and toasty buns.

Not super great in terms of variety but the 3 for $ 1 bun deal and a counter full of «just day olds» makes this place a nice diversion from Pacific Mall. There are a few tables you can hunker down around for a cheapo lunch. CUTE! Chinese Girl went bonkers mad snapping up various day old mini egg tarts and the like. $ 8 later we had two big bags full of sugared carbs. She graciously gave me two almond cookies and one mini egg tart. The women behind the counter seemed terribly patient as CUTE! Chinese Girl ran madly back and forth and down and around the«just day olds» counter unable to decide.

I have a total different experience than Wayne when I shop at Chinese Bakery. I walked in on a weekday afternoon. The staffs welcoming me and kept showing me where the salty buns are! I though looking for sweet pastry to satisfy my sweet teeth! I love how they have those $ 1 for 3 or $ 1 for 2 or $ 1.5 for 2 selections. Ended up I picked 3 different sweet Chinese Bakery and 2 butter cakes for $ 2 total no taxes. I love the peanut sweet rice ball I got. it has chunk of peanuts inside and the peanut kept falling off to the ground since they put so much inside! The green onion buns has a lot of green onions too. but make sure you chew some gum to get rid of the onion breath! I for sure will be back to try out other pastries, since there are so many selections!

I was looking around for Century Egg Pastry and it’s actually harder to track down than you think. I looked for it at T&T and Queen’s Pastry but either they were out or didn’t have any. This was one of my SEARCH spots as I drive past pretty often without going in. I went in on a Weekday afternoon and saw a staff walking around but didn’t say a word of GREETING to me whatsoever, FINE! I go around looking for the pastry and found only a COUPLE wrapped in plastic looking all OILY and DISGUSTING. I decided to forego the pastry and see what else was good, while I saw the staff go in the back. I found an something that LOOKED edible and went to the counter… waited… waited… waited… I waited long enough to put my item back and WALKOUT of that place without a single person noticing. If I was an EVIL Unilocaler, I would have taken a LOAD of pastries and walked out but I wouldn’t eat their CRAP anyways.

Chinese Bakery(in Chinese — Da Long Feng or Big Dragon Phoenix) is great. It is clean, offering BBQ pork buns, pineapple buns, red bean buns, ham cheese buns, chicken buns, beef buns, egg tarts, milk tarts, coconut twists, as well as sponge cakes, wedding cakes, birthday cakes etc. I know it’s fresh because you can see through the window to the back that they bake the buns on-site. The BBQ pork, ham/cheese buns are quite good. My kids can’t stop eating the raisin twists. The reason why I give it 5 stars is because of the value. It simply can’t be beat! 3 buns(any type — BBQ port, sweet, ham, etc) for $ 1. The big egg tarts are 2 for $ 1. After 6pm, it’s 4 buns for $ 1.
