I came to check out Ella’s Uncle after a friend of mine recommended it. I was very disappointed. I ordered a latte, which I normally get as a test of a new coffee shop. The one I received was worse than Starbucks. It was milky and the coffee was weak. Very unimpressed. Not only that but the barista was unfriendly and aloof. Would not return.

My wife and i live close by so we come here every few months. I’ve tried a few different drinks here hoping that it will be good and am consistently disappointed. Cappuccinos with no foam, not great tasting flavour. Try the red mocha my wife likes it, otherwise there are plenty of other choices in the area.

On my way home(yes, my way home is basically walking along all of Bloor Street until I get tired and hop on the subway), I tried to find my uncle. He wasn’t there, so I found Ella’s uncle instead. There was a big sign advertising he was there too, but he wasn’t. What a liar! So I decided to sit and wait for him while I had an iced Ameri-coco, which is basically an iced americano coffee made with coconut water instead of water. It was pretty good, but close to $ 4.00. You could taste the coffee and a hint of coconut water, but the coffee overwhelmed it, however I still quite enjoyed the drink. Alas, I stood there near the«ledge» waiting for Ella’s uncle because there isn’t any seating and he never showed. However, the barista was super friendly and this place definitely had a true indie vibe. I’ll try again and have another coffee while I find Ella’s uncle. Seriously — I tried to put my review in my story, but, decent coffee, lack of seating, nice baristas — not bad.

I’ve been to this location a handful of times. They do all the expresso types drinks you can imagine and iced versions as well. They also have a good selection of baked goods — a must for any decent coffee shop. Ella’s doesn’t have a ton of places to sit but they do offer four awesome window seats and four patio seats outside if you’re keen to watch the construction and traffic on Bloor. Take away is your best bet. This time around I went for their Killer Lemonade. It’s made in-house and super sour. Perfect for sunny summer Toronto days. Remember, cash only!

So this is my first time at any of the locations, and I wandered in from the rain and ordered a big toffee cookie and a Ginger Numi Tea. Yum!!! I like how they serve the tea in the tall, thick(you know, sorta like the Ikea ones we all have at home) w a cardboard sleeve to protect ones fingers. Lots of floor space, makes me wanna bring my friends and have a little dance party! Am enjoying sitting in the actual front window, watching everyone outside in the rain, warm and satisfied. I like whatever music is playing right now. I also like that they have a clearly visible list of their teas right when you walk in. Peaceful and funky. I d come back to see what other kinds of baked goods they have/if they vary… space for thinking. I ll come back again.

I very rarely give one star reviews and only do so if a place does something absolutely unacceptable. This location of Ella’s Uncle has done the unacceptable. I stopped in on a Saturday night about 45 minutes before closing. My plan was to buy a drink and hang out on my computer for a bit and use the secured Wi-Fi. Since I am visiting from out of town and was about to order something to drink to enjoy while I rested my feet, it would make sense that I would probably want to use the bathroom before I left. I would be a paying customer after all and this was an establishment that serves food and beverages. And you know what? Food and beverages prompt one to use the restroom. Good thing I asked about the location of the bathroom while I was at the counter before I placed my order, because guess what? They told me they didn’t have one. I was confused at first, maybe stupidly so. I then asked the person behind the counter: «Well, which one do you use then?» She explained to me that they had a bathroom on the premises for employees to use, but paying customers were still expected to go elsewhere. She actually recommended that I use the restroom at McDonald’s as an alternative even though I was about to buy a beverage from Ella’s Uncle. Totally ridiculous. I ended up leaving to walk down the street to Tim Horton’s where I could buy a beverage, use the Wi-Fi, and actually use the restroom.

Excellent cappuccinos. Love the iced coffee made with coconut water in the summer and DAMN those berry scones are good. So happy to have this place so close to home.

Given how big this location is compared to the Dundas one, I was hoping that there would be more seating. Coffee and tea are good quality at a typical price point for cafes in this area. Oatmeal chocolate toffee cookie is delicious! Cash only

Meh. It’s fine. Pretty small, basic space and the girl serving was civil enough if not overwhelmingly friendly. They had a small selection of baked goods when I popped in at 4pm on a May Thursday. Medium coffee was $ 2.25 for a pretty small cup-around the size of a tall from Starbucks. It was pretty good but I wouldn’t be taking a special trip there to get one and it still pains me to pay that much for filter. Highlight was probably that there is bench seating outside so you can watch the world go by.

I’m happy this place is around! It is adding to the much-needed restoration of the Bloorcourt area. That being said, its ornamental contribution to my neighbourhood is about all that pleases me about this little café. Yes, the espressos are good! And yes, the baked goods are also very delicious but everything seems to be about $ 1 more than the average«home-bake café/espresso café» in the area. Petty-sounding? Maybe, but when a so-so cappuccino runs you $ 4 and you know that just a stone’s throw east, there are much tastier espresso bevs for less, common sense tells you to keep walking.

Yay! Another café in Bloorcourt and finally on the stretch between Ossington and Dovercourt. The soy cappuccino I had was very nice. Double shot for $ 4.25 was expensive, probably because they charge extra for soy. A practice that needs to be outlawed, it does not cost more than dairy milk — especially when you factor in the negative health implications and land degration caused by the dairy industry, but I digress. It’s a small, but bright and open space. The barista was friendly enough. They have some bar seating in the window, but no tables at the moment because they’re zoned for take-out. I liked the subway tile on the bar. No vegan baked items, but apparently I’m not the only one inquiring so hopefully that will change. Even just a scone? Please?
