I am a thrift queen, and spend a lot of time at Value Village. Consequently, I often walk into vintage stores and feel scorn at their choices, swindlement at their prices, and aggravation at their organization. Polyester prints! No! Warped shoulder pads! Why?! Half broken shoes. Augh. Monarch was a happy surprise. After dismissing it a few times, something caught my eye and I went in. It had a nice balance of stuff that made it fun to look through — some really beautiful pieces as well as some affordable ones, so you don’t feel like you’re just wasting your time respiring and aspiring. It’s a fairly open and sunny store; pleasant to be in and easy to dig into. The woman working there was laid back, kind, helpful without trying to make a sale. I bought a black silk high-waisted mini skirt with some embroidery for $ 30, and it’s one of my favourite things. Hooray!
