Second Cup

I usually like second cups but this one was pretty bad and it is in dire need of seating. Judging by other reviews maybe this was just a bad day for them.

Overpriced and they messed up my wife’s perfect cup by rushing through it and not using the right amount of grounds.

I went here at 9pm Tuesday November 3 2015 and I ordered a green tea latte. She made me a green tea latte with the tea bag because I forgot to mention that I meant matcha as I was exhausted from a long day of school and learning about compensation mind you when I worked at Starbucks I would make sure to double check that they knew what they were ordering so that it saved both myself and the customer time. So once I got my drink I saw it wasn’t green and said I meant matcha. She then put one scoop of powder on top of the foam and left the tea bag in the cup. Foam all down the sides of the cup, chunks of powder and obviously not enough powder. Milk was cold and it was 70% foam. Disaster to say the least. I was so damn tired and she was so bad as a barista I gave up and went to crawl up the stairs to the subway. I then proceeded to be sick upon getting home so I’m not sure if there was contamination in the milk? I gave it two stars because I came today (Wednesday aka day after because I believe in second chances) and it was perfect made by a guy with a thick accent. Overall staff should be trained on how to properly remake beverages. At Starbucks we would throw the entire drink out and remake from scratch FYI.

I’ve been in Toronto all week and going here every morning for my quad long espresso. Staff are very courteous and friendly. I wondered why they didn’t have splenda as an option but you have to ask for it. Second Cup is my favourite coffee AND a Canadian company :)

Sigh. How the mighty have fallen. They stopped brewing a second flavor Saturday/​Sunday mornings. See ya.
Luckily the Second Cup on the top floor near the bridge to The Bay (
) still serves a second Saturday AM.

This Second Cup is kind of hidden behind the escalator in the Eaton Centre (by the HM, Ryerson and Subway station). There never seems to be a line here, I find the service really great and I definitely love Second Cup products. Their coffee is usually very fresh and the beans are of good quality.
FYI: Every tuesday latte’s are 2.75, what a deal!
Not sure how long this deal is, but I think it is through til march/​11. Usually they have some sort of Tuesday deal, Tuesdays are Second Cup’s thang.
Next time you are in the area, stop in here instead of the insane line up Starbucks in the middle of the god awful Eaton Centre and treat yourself to some good coffee with Canadian ownership!

I am writing this review about the second cup near Dundas Station in the Eaton Centre (there’s another one inside them all closer to Queen).
Second Cup in general has my all-​time favourite coffee (specifically lattes). They brew fresh, are significantly cheaper than Starbucks, and taste FAR better than Starbucks (seriously, everything about them is just better, their foam is actually creamy and doesn’t look disgusting). As well, all Second Cups take SPC again which means a medium latte for a student is only about $ 3.50 (give or take, still less than $ 4) after tax (I compare this with over $ 5 for a medium latte from Starbucks).
I have one complaint of all Second Cups however, being the food. The food is hardly ever fresh, which makes sense as they get it delivered already baked. I am extremely picky with my croissents especially, as they need to be made the day-​of to taste the way they should! My experience with their muffins has not been a good one either (seriously, they just don’t taste good), but I have had their pesto and boccaccini sandwich before which HAS impressed me.
Anyway, moving on to this specific location. It’s quite a small place and so the staff is only a handful of people who you will always see. I’ve never had an issue with the staff, and they have always been quite friendly. At the second cup in Union station, the staff has refused (on more than one occasion) to give me my SPC discount because I forgot to tell them that I had SPC until they had entered my order in the cash. I found this to be very rude (seriously, it takes 2 seconds to void the order, it’s not like I had paid yet). At this location when I accidentally did the same thing, the staff was very nice and promptly voided the order and let me use my discount with no hassle. Also, I have on occasion found designs in my latte foam at this location! Seriously, I was amazed. I’m not sure if this just happened to be fluke, but last year I found a mickey mouse head shape in my foam, and just yesterday there was a heart shape! (I took a picture of yesterday’s, I will upload this later).
So to conclude this ridiculously long review, I highly recommend this location (and Second Cup in general) and will continue to give them business as I go to school! I am giving them 5-​stars even though their food is not the greatest, as they are still the best coffee shop I have been to in comparison. =]
