Love love love Kahlae! She’s an angel for my hair. Have been going to her for close to an year now and every hair that she’s given me deserved a 5 star! She’s my goto hairstylist. Thanks to her for all the compliments I get from strangers who love how my hair looks on me!

I’ve found my holy grail! FINALLY a hair salon that cares about the health of your hair! I went for a wash, cut and style and my experience was amazing. Kahlae listened to what I wanted to do on that day and asked what my long term hair goals were and we developed a plan. I have afro-kinky hair which I blow dried and flat ironed and it came out gorgeous. Lots of movement and body, and my hair came out sleek and shiny. Also my split ends are gone and now I have a good shape and no more hair was taken off than necessary. I’ll definitely recommend this place to my friends and I’ll definitely go again. This girl knows her stuff!

Haven’t been to the new location, but I’m still a fan. Here’s my review copied from the old page: — — — — — — — - I was googling around to find someone to take a turn doing my hair. I am a woman working with her coily afro(4c, for those of you who know what that is) in an unprocessed state, and sometimes, I feel like a break from it. So, up pops Studio 86. I cannot overestimate what a gem is to find a place that works with Black women’s hair across the range of possibilities. Some places only do the relaxing and texturizing. Some places only do the extensions, weaves, braids, etc. Some places only do the dreadlocking. Some places will take your natural hair and blow dry/flat iron it into submission. Some places will soak your hair until it squeezes out some kind of curl pattern. Almost no one caters to the woman who wants to wear her hair out but style it with some twisting or curling. This place, miraculously, does it all! I came in to get a consultation because I knew that my mane needed a professional eye on it. Kahlae gave me straightforward advice, a moisturizing treatment and a hair cut/style that I am loving. She is offering exactly what I need; professional support for taking care of my own hair. The salon is on the lower level of Studio 86 and is a very nice space — lots of light. They sell products but there is no fervor to sell here, just sound recommendations. The stuff is there if you need/want it. BTW, its a truly multicultural salon. While I was there I saw all kinds of women and all kinds of hair textures getting service. I’ve already booked my follow up appointment.

Now that Studio 86 is in a beautiful new location I would like to add another review because I’ve been going to this salon for almost two years now and every time I step out after a conditioning treatment, colour, cut and style, I feel like I should be going on a hot date or at least walking by one of my exes on the street so he can behold the masterful work of Kahlae and Sherline(aka ‘The Bang Whisperer’) who cuts and styles my bangs like she’s got a Master’s Degree in bang cutting and styling and I don’t think I’ll take my business anywhere else in Toronto because this salon has resuscitated my locks back to the glossy auburn mermaid waves I once had before that unfortunate blonding incident of 2012 back in Vancouver and I’m even tempted to take multiple selfies, which is a v rare occurrence so you can thank Studio 86 if you’re into that sort of thing.
